PNP CHIEF LAUDS POLICE EFFORTS IN EASING ANDAYA HIGHWAY TRAFFIC

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, General Rommel Francisco Marbil, commended the dedication and resourcefulness of police personnel in mitigating the severe traffic congestion along the Rolando Andaya Highway in Camarines Sur.

"Our police officers' commitment and hard work have brought significant relief to a situation that once saw traffic stretch over 17 kilometers. Without their efforts, the problem would have persisted," General Marbil said.

In response to the worsening traffic caused by ongoing road repairs and adverse weather, the PNP deployed additional personnel from the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) to manage traffic flow round-the-clock. Officers on the ground implemented measures such as the 30-minute interval scheme, allowing vehicles from opposing directions to pass alternately, which has considerably reduced congestion.

Furthermore, police teams have been instrumental in securing Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) equipment essential for road rehabilitation efforts. Their presence has ensured the safe and timely delivery of materials, facilitating the swift progress of repair works aimed at restoring normal traffic conditions.

General Marbil also acknowledged the innovative approaches introduced by the police force to alleviate traffic, including the implementation of diversion routes for light vehicles. Motorists are directed to take alternative paths, such as the Sipocot-Camarines Norte route or the Sta. Elena-Capalonga, Daet, Camarines Norte route, to bypass heavily congested areas.

"Our officers have demonstrated exceptional resourcefulness and dedication in addressing this challenge. Their 24-hour presence and efforts have made travel safer and more efficient for the public," he added.

The PNP continues to work closely with the DPWH, Land Transportation Office (LTO), and local government units to monitor and address traffic conditions. Motorists are encouraged to stay patient, follow traffic advisories, and use designated alternate routes to ease travel during this period.

PNP'S BLOODLESS ANTI-DRUG CAMPAIGN NETS P20.7 BILLION WORTH OF DRUGS IN 2024

The Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Police General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, announced on Sunday the remarkable success of the PNP’s recalibrated and bloodless anti-illegal drugs campaign, which yielded an astounding ₱20.7 billion worth of seized illegal drugs from January 1 to December 15, 2024 — a staggering 101% increase compared to 2023 figures.

Owing to the focused and strategic implementation of the drugs campaign, General Marbil said 46,821 anti-drug operations were conducted by various PNP units nationwide, leading to the arrest of 57,129 individuals. The campaign's emphasis on high-value individuals while ensuring the protection of human rights and due process resulted in the confiscation of over 8 metric tons of illegal drugs, nearly 2 metric tons more compared to 2023.

The seized illegal drugs included methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu), ma*****na, ecstasy, co***ne, ketamine, and kush, reflecting the diverse range of narcotics targeted by the PNP's comprehensive anti-illegal drugs operation.

"This extraordinary achievement is a testament to our focused operations against high-value individuals in the illegal drug trade. Our commitment to a calibrated anti-drug campaign, which puts a premium on human rights, has proven that we can dismantle drug syndicates without unnecessary loss of life,"

Among the regions, Police Regional Office 4A (Calabarzon) recorded the highest haul with P9.9 billion worth of seized drugs, followed by the PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) with P2.4 billion. Gen. Marbil highlighted the dedication and bravery of all PNP units involved in these operations.

“I commend our police officers who put their lives on the line to ensure that no illegal drugs make their way into our communities. Their sacrifices and dedication are instrumental in safeguarding our citizens and dismantling the structures of drug syndicates,” the top cop stressed.

The PNP's success reflects its renewed commitment to eradicating illegal drugs while adhering to legal and ethical standards, proving that decisive action can go hand-in-hand with respect for human rights.

"This accomplishment is not just a victory for the PNP but for the Filipino people who deserve safer and drug-free communities. Let this achievement inspire us to continue working together in our fight against illegal drugs," Gen. Marbil concluded.

The PNP vows to sustain its momentum as it further enhances its strategies to combat illegal drugs, ensuring a safer and more secure Philippines for all.
