PHIVOLCS records 109 volcanic earthquakes, 325 rockfall events from Mayon
(Legazpi City, July 10, 2023) The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) recorded on Monday, July 10, at least 109 volcanic earthquakes and 325 rock fall events in its observation in the last 24 hours.
Aside from the volcanic quakes, and rockfall events, 19 dome collapse pyroclastic density currents (PDC), 4 lava front collapse PDC, one (1) lava collapse PDC, and a repetitive pulse tremor have been recorded since July 8 at 11 p.m. and ceased on July 10 at 3 a.m.
According to the bared parameters of PHIVOLCS, a very slow effusion of lava flow from the crater with lengths of 2.8 kilometers and 1.4 kilometers along the Mi-isi and Bonga Gullies were maintained. Plus a lava collapse along Basud Gully with a length of 4 kilometers from Mayon's summit.
PHIVOLCS is firm in forbidding any entry to the 6-kilometer-radius permanent danger zone and the flying of any aircraft close to Mayon's summit as possible hazards such as rock falls, landslides, avalanches, PDCs, ballistic fragments, lava flows, fountaining, and lahar flow may occur.
Currently, Mayon volcano is still under Level 3 status or exhibiting intensified unrest.
