IIPCC vows to push forward robust PH investment promotion services during inaugural meeting



MAKATI CITY—The Philippine Board of Investments (BOI), leader of the country’s Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs), convened the Inter-Agency Investment Promotion Coordination Committee (IIPCC) presided by Trade Secretary Fred Pascual, BOI Chairman and IIPCC Chairperson. The inaugural meeting was called to strengthen investment opportunities through enhanced cooperation and underscored support to the country’s industrialization strategy.



“Let us provide the direction on our efforts to bring more foreign investments into the country. We must make sure that we can industrialize”, Secretary Pascual said during the meeting. Likewise, he presented concrete actions needed to improve the country’s FDI performance.



Joining Trade Secretary Pascual were Trade Undersecretary and BOI Managing Head Ceferino Rodolfo and BOI’s Executive Director for Investment Promotions Services Evariste Cagatan. Echoing the Secretary’s call, Undersecretary Rodolfo emphasized the need to seize opportunity to realize higher foreign direct investments (FDIs) through particular priority actions.



Meanwhile, the members of the committee pledged to strengthen their collaboration to realize intertwined approaches in image building, investment promotion, generation, and facilitation.

NEW CALAX INTERCHANGE TO OPEN THIS 2 ND HALF OF 2022

The Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) is set to make a major milestone this 2022, as it
eyes the operationalization of its upcoming interchange -Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange in
the latter part of the year. This will extend CALAX’ operational sections from Mamplasan,
Laguna, to Aguinaldo Highway in Silang, Cavite.

As of today, the 3.9-kilometer 2x2 lane CALAX subsection reaches 56% of completion. Part
of the ongoing works includes drainage and bridge constructions, excavation and roadway
earthworks, and installation of fence and coco net.
“The Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange will help decongest the busiest highway in the province
of Cavite — the 41-kilometer Emilio Aguinaldo Highway. Motorists from Manila going to the
famous tourist destinations of Silang and Tagaytay, Cavite will surely benefit from this
upcoming project as it offers convenience and shorter travel time.,” said Mr. Raul L. Ignacio,
President and General Manager of MPCALA Holdings Incorporation (MHI).
Once operational, the Silang Aguinaldo Interchange, aside from the Santa Rosa-Tagaytay
Road Interchange, will be a convenient alternative exit of CALAX for motorists coming from
Metro Manila going to the country& #39;s second summer capital, Tagaytay City. The interchange
is 16 kilometers away from the city proper of Tagaytay via Aguinaldo Highway, and the
travel time is around 20 minutes only.

Other interchanges of CALAX namely Open Canal, Governor’s Drive, and Kawit, are
targeted to be completed by 2023. Currently, CALAX’s operational segment spans 14.24-

kilometer with interchanges at Greenfield-Mamplasan, Laguna Technopark, Laguna
Boulevard, Santa Rosa-Tagaytay, and Silang East. Upon completion of the entire CALAX
project, it will connect to the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) in Kawit, Cavite.
CALAX is a 45-kilometer expressway, Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with the Department
of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) as implementing agency, and with private proponent
MPCALA Holdings Inc. (MHI), a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC),
the toll road development arm of Metro Pacific Investment Corporation (MPIC).
MPTC is the biggest toll road developer and operator in the Philippines. Aside from CALAX
and CAVITEX, MPTC also holds the concession rights for North Luzon Expressway (NLEX),
NLEX Connector Road, Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), and Cebu-Cordova Link
Expressway (CCLEX) in Cebu.

Japan opens application for JET program

MANILA – The Japanese Embassy in Manila is accepting applications for the assistant language teacher (ALT) positions in the 2022 Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) program.

Applicants must be a Filipino citizen; physically and mentally fit to work abroad; possess excellent English ability both orally and in writing; holders of a bachelor's degree or higher by the designated arrival date; and have not lived in Japan for six or more years in total since 2010.

ALTs will work in public or private schools, or local boards of education in the prefecture or municipality they will be assigned to. Their primary task is to assist in classes led by Japanese teachers of English.

The deadline for application is on Dec. 3, 2021 and details about the requirements that must be submitted can be found on the Embassy's website.

The JET was introduced in 1987 to help deepen mutual understanding between the people of Japan and foreign nationals through foreign language exchange and cultural immersion at the local level.

In 2019 alone, about 5,761 individuals were selected to participate in the JET from 57 countries, including the Philippines.

The Embassy of Japan in the Philippines has sent a total of 154 JET participants as ALTs or Coordinators for International Relations to Japan. (PNA)

NCR Plus placed under GCQ with heightened restrictions starting May 15

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on Thursday, May 13, 2021, approved the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to place the National Capital Region (NCR), Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions from May 15 to 31, 2021.

Also under GCQ status from May 15 to 31, 2021, are areas under the Cordillera Administrative Region, such as Apayao, Baguio City, Benguet, Kalinga, Mountain Province and Abra; Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya in Region 2; Batangas and Quezon in Region 4-A; Puerto Princesa in Region 4-B; Iligan City in Region 10; Davao City in Region 11; and Lanao del Sur in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

The City of Santiago and Quirino Province in Region 2; Ifugao in the Cordillera Administrative Region; and Zamboanga City in Region 9 shall be placed under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) from May 15 to 31, 2021.

All other areas shall be placed under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) until month’s end.

On the heightened restrictions in the NCR Plus, only essential travel into and out of the NCR Plus shall be allowed. Public transportation shall remain operational at such capacities and protocols in accordance with the Department of Transportation guidelines while the use of active transportation shall be promoted.

Also, indoor dine-in services in NCR Plus shall be at 20% venue or seating capacity while outdoor or al fresco dining shall be at 50% venue or seating capacity.

Outdoor tourist attractions in the NCR Plus, on the other hand, may be opened at 30% with strict adherence to minimum public health standards.

Further allowed in the NCR Plus are specialized markets of the Department of Tourism (DOT) following the minimum public health standards and implementation of protocols and restrictions as set by the DOT.

Religious gatherings and gatherings for necrological services, wakes, inurnment and funerals for those who died of causes other than COVID-19 in NCR Plus shall be allowed up to 10% of the venue capacity.

Also continued to be allowed in GCQ areas with heightened restrictions are non-contact sports in outdoor contact sports, games, scrimmages; and personal care services that allow for services not requiring mask removal, such as salons, parlors, beauty clinics, etc at 30% capacity.

Individuals, 18-65 years of age, can leave their places of residence in GCQ areas with heightened restrictions.

Meanwhile, entertainment venues, such as bars, concert halls, theaters, etc; recreational venues, such as internet cafes, billiards halls, arcades, etc; amusement parks, fairs, playgrounds, kiddie rides; indoor sports courts and venues and indoor tourist attractions; venues for meetings, conferences, exhibitions shall not be allowed in GCQ areas with heightened restrictions.

Interzonal travel from NCR Plus areas, except those conducted by Authorized Persons Outside Residence (APORs), shall remain prohibited in GCQ areas with heightened restrictions.

The successful launching of FCIE Community Pantry was held last April 20, 2021 and has benefited of more than 700 workers from different locators inside FCIE. It’s the management initiative to somehow help ease the needs of FCIE workers during this difficult time brought by the raging pandemic.

Distributed together with FCIEAI President, Mr. Raju Sharma and Estate Manager, Mr. Raffy Malanyaon. The assorted goods given for the past 4 days includes rice, noodles, canned goods, vegetables, coffee and eggs.

The FCIE Community Pantry is scheduled every Monday-Wednesday-Friday with announced time to the locators until supplies last.

The management acknowledge the donations given by their locators. "Thank you for the generosity and kindness of all our locators as well as yout usual support to FCIE activities" Mr. Malanyaon said.

All donations are welcome preferably in kind. Observance of safety protocol is a must such as wearing of face mask, face shield and proper physical distancing.
