Today, November 25, 2024, at 9 o'clock in the morning, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines Unisan Campus successfully hosted a mind-opening discussion on Gender and Development International Seminar with a theme โExploring the Connections Between Identity and Development: Emphasizing Race, Class, Sexuality, and Genderโ, held at PUP Unisan Gymnasium.
The said event commenced with the dignified entrance of the faculty members, led by Campus Director Dr. Edwin G. Malabuyoc, and the esteemed resource speaker, Mr. Noah Minner, along with his family. It was facilitated by Ms. Jhunicel Dela Cruz and Ms. Fatima E. Candelaria, who are both BEEd 3 students.
A solemn singing of the opening prayer set the tone, which was then followed by the enthusiastic singing of the Philippine National Anthem, played through an audio-visual presentation.
To warmly welcome the participants and visitors, Dr. Edwin G. Malabuyoc expressed a deep sense of gratitude for everyone's presence and participation. He said, "I hope today's seminar will be highly productive for all of us."
Then, select members of the Kalilayan Dance Republic performed a cultural presentation called โTagayan Ritual Danceโ, giving the crowd a storytelling-like performance, executed through graceful movements.
Now we have come to the anticipated discussion proper of the seminar wherein the resource speaker, Mr. Noah Minner, took the stage, after being introduced by Ms. Jerica Cueto, a BEEd 3 student.
Mr. Minner delved into the context of race-politics, as he highlighted different key topics about Gender and Development. Some of these include economic perspectives on equality, national politics, equality-based treatment, as well as the racial impressions in America. As Mr. Minner finished his discussion, Ms. Jhunicel (one of the emcees) shared one of her takeaways wherein she noted that โAll individuals possess equal value and deserve to be treated with respectโ.
After the discussion proper, Ms. Johcelin Fernandez from BEEd 3 and Mr. Danver Pisig from BEEd 1 performed, mesmerizing the audience with their soulful singing voices. During the open forum, attendees participated actively in a thought-provoking question and answer. The resource speaker as well as the audience shared a very insightful responses. Mr. Minner gave advice in which he stated, โ... just continue believing in the principle of equality."
Minutes after, the awarding of certificates to the resource speaker happened. It was then followed by a closing remarks given by Dr. Imelda C. Altovar, the GAD Focal Person.
The seminar concluded with a photo opportunity, allowing everyone to capture and treasure the moment, and it ended with the heartfelt singing of the PUP Hymn.
Today's seminar truly brought the PUPians to another level of meaningful discussion, reflecting to the Campus' commitment of shaping individuals to become empowered and to create an inclusive environment for all.
