The Federal High Court of Nigeria has ordered the Nigerian Police to comply with a previous directive to release Speed Darlington, also known as Akpi, immediately pending the commencement of court proceedings regarding his case. Speed Darlington's lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, shared this update on his X (formerly Twitter) account. Deji also stated that the court has appointed Abubakar Marshal as a surety for Akpi.

Three months ago, in October 2024, Speed Darlington went missing, only to later be found in police custody, where he was held for three days. Governor Chukwuma Soludo has delivered a decisive warning to practitioners of traditional medicine, specifically Ndi Dibia and Ndi Ezenwanyi, operating in Anambra State. He emphasized the need for accountability and regulation in their practices to curb their alleged negative impact on society.

"You must disclose the specific ailments you claim to treat and ensure you officially register these details with the appropriate authorities. This will enable us to monitor and understand the scope of your activities. Starting from 2025, Anambra State will no longer tolerate ritualistic practices masquerading as traditional healing. Your activities have misled and caused irreparable harm to many of our youths," Governor Soludo stated firmly.

The governor went further to issue a direct ultimatum: "If you fail to comply by registering and strictly adhering to your declared area of specialization, we will take decisive action. We will not hesitate to visit your operational sites, whether shrines or other locations, and dismantle them. Inform every native doctor you know that this regulation will be strictly enforced beginning January 2025."
