Republic Act No. 11440 or National Campus Press Freedom Day Act declares every 25th day of July as National Campus Press Freedom Day throughout the country signed by former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. The campus press, along with other media institutions, plays a significant role in promoting and protecting the press and freedom of expression.

For this year's celebration, we feature the artwork of our alumnus Editorial Cartoonist Charles Mirafuentes. As technology advances and artificial intelligence is used to create disinformation, it is indeed a threat, and we must advocate for the campaign fighting for truth and avoiding lies.

Best of the best

After years of battling against the pandemic, students were now back on track to showcasing dance moves and brilliant ideas for a grand performance in celebrating school-based National Arts Month celebration.

Grade 9 students demonstrated their creativity and collaboration in the field of arts by giving honor in festive activities across the country.

Students in the ninth grade have recently put on vibrant performances to the upbeat sounds of instruments and melodies, executing a variety of festival dances that were classified as religious or secular, relative to what was assigned in each group.

These students also raised their banners, signifying their pride in their artistic expression as essential components of their identity and their progress toward being able to hone their talents and abilities together.

Students had to use recycled materials to show off their creativity for their costumes, props, decorations, and other items that helped them to accomplish the festival.

After the performances, classes of Escuro, Baltazar, Gomez, Alzona, and Lara were among the top five outstanding performances, in accordance to the judges’ impression. These sections also had another showcase of talent in which Grade 9-Gomez ranked 3rd place, Escuro as 2nd place, and Alzona as the champion.

Maurrise Oliquiano, the class vice president of Alzona, initially expressed how they handled the struggle during the preparation but through courage, they were still able to bring the trophy of victory.

"The best thing you can have to help them out of their struggles is patience and supporting them. Not all of the help needs to come from us officers, each and every student of our section needs to have great cooperation towards the officers including, listening, following, and knowing what's best for them," Oliquiano said.

Lastly, behind the success of this activity were Mrs. Josefine J. Magpantay, Mr. Romeo M. Mendoza, Master Teacher I, Mr. Lou Aldous M. Custodio, MAPEH Coordinator, Grade 9 MAPEH teachers, Mrs. Alexis Joie Buenaceda, Mrs. Amor Salazar, and Mr. Christian Manaig and the rest of MAPEH teachers.

Opportunity to express, showcase artworks through Art Exhibit

In celebration of the annual National Arts Month, the school was committed in delivering fun, engaging and meaningful activities for Lirians.

The celebration had its theme "Ani ng Sining, Bayang Malikhain: Celebrating the Gift of Life and Talents through Arts” in which through the initiative of MAPEH department, headed by Mr. Romeo Mendoza, the school established an open access art exhibit today, February 29 at school gymnasium.

More so, the art exhibit was significantly held to allow students to participate and recognize their creative works through artistic expressions. VINTA Miniature, Rangoli, paintings, posters were among the materials showcased in the venue.

Meanwhile, to ensure that the activity was under control, MAPEH department, MAPEH club, SSLG, and other school personnel prepared the art exhibit in collaboration with the School Watching Team (SWT).

At the same time, Mr. Romeo M. Mendoza, Master Teacher l of MAPEH stated that the concept revolved on lessons that are taught across grade levels, relative to various art cultures.

Additionally, Mr. Lou Aldous M. Custodio, MAPEH Coordinator, pointed out that students' self-esteem is boosted as they execute their artistic abilities because all individuals have distinctive abilities.

"Ineencourage natin 'yung mga learners natin para iexpress 'yung kanilang skills and talents kasi ano, e, we have individual differences, may mga estudyante na nag-eexcel sa academics, sa sports, so ngayon bigyan natin ng pagkakataon sa arts.”, Custodio emphasized.

Meanwhile, Nicole S. Serondo, a grade 9 student, shared her thoughts about the school's art exhibit, which gave students the chance to explore instead in an accessible and friendly one.

"Di naman tayo laging makakapagvisit sa ibang mga museum, so parang mas accessible sa school magkaroon ng ganitong mga program.”, Serondo uttered.

HEAD HELD HIGH

Lirian Spikers showcased their skills in a tightly contested quarterfinals game against Tanauan Institute, but failed to advance to the semifinals, 3-0 (15-25, 20-25, 21-25), at the Division Athletic Association Meet on February 24.

Despite not achieving their desired placement, the Spikers still represented the beloved school with determination and perseverance. Before facing T.I., the Spikers dominated against Doctor Alcantara NHS and Ulango NHS.

Regardless of falling short, the seniors of the team, Seray and Boncales, undoubtedly stood firm until the end even though they were up against mostly Senior High players. The skill and excellence of Naval, who served as the team captain of the Spikers, could not be underestimated, providing inspiration and direction to his teammates in their matches.

Ang naging strategy nmin to win the two games is to use our heart tapos sinabayan pa ng determination ng bawat isa na maachieve yung goal. Yung will nila to win the game is farther than the skill itself eh. It takes intuition and great effort to win at volleyball. Creative thinking. The act of improvisation. At syempre yung reciprocity of cooperation ng bawat player. A volleyball player cannot work for themselves at nakita ko yun sa bawat player sa bawat game. They worked hard and gave their best foot forward to win in each game. Yung naging lesson nmin sa nangyari is to play harder at train harder pa. Sabi nga sa adage "Champions prepare more. Kaya we make it a point na dire-diretso ang training para maachieve nmin Yung next year na goal nmin ang mag-win sa Division Meet at makarating ng Regional.”, Coach Sheryl R. Lirio ended.

DROP EVERYTHING AND READ (DEAR): Into better acquisition of skill

Through a strong commitment to delivering quality, relevant, inclusive, and responsive basic education, Bernardo Lirio National High School (BLNHS) participated in the nationwide implementation of Catch-up Fridays, today, January 12.

This program aimed to focus on the Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) activity to further strengthen students' foundational, social, and other relevant skills necessary for the basic curriculum. Hence, this is anchored on the MATATAG and DEPED’s Eight-point Socioeconomic agenda.

Meanwhile, teachers prepared meaningful reading materials in which students would be able to reflect and extract the essence of various texts to their lives. The latter were also asked to process their thoughts through varied activities.

Through the continuous aim of the school community to emphasize the importance of honing students’ reading skills, better learning is no doubt to be manifested.

All for the best. All for students’ academic welfare!
