The Philippine Artisan - Taguig (TPA-T), the official student publication of the Technological University of the Philippines - Taguig (TUP-T), recently conducted a Radio Broadcasting Presentation as part of the internship tasks for aspiring staff members.

Twenty-four students from various departments participated in the event, under the guidance of the incumbent editorial board and staff.

Divided into four groups, the students presented live broadcasts from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on January 17, 2025 at the TUP-T Multipurpose Hall. The event aimed to imform the student body about current news and events both within and outside the campus while also helping future journalists enhance their skills in radio broadcasting and news reporting.

On Monday, January 6, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Signal Village National High School students officially started their work immersion journey with a campus tour at the Technological University of the Philippines - Taguig. Guided by TUP-Taguig volunteer students, the participants explored the campus buildings and offices, familiarizing themselves with their new workplace and gaining insights into the university's facilities.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊 || Signal Village National High School and TUP-Taguig collaborated for Work Immersion Orientation and Career Talk.

The first batch of students for the Work Immersion gathered at the IT Building Auditorium from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, comprising the first part of the program. It opened with a welcome address by Ms. Mitchie M. Caurel, RGC, the OIC and Head of the Office of Student Affairs.

Department heads from BASD, MAAD, EAAD, and CAAD then introduced the various technologies and courses offered in their departments, providing Grade 12 students with information on potential career paths.

In the latter part of the orientation, Mr. Christopher Mitchell I. Azuelo, RPM, the Guidance Coordinator, discussed TUP's mission, vision, and school policies. The session ended with closing remarks from Dr. Rexmelle Decapia Jr., TUP-Taguig Campus Director.

Part 2 of the event will include a campus tour of TUP-Taguig.

The Technological University of the Philippines – Taguig (TUP-Taguig) officially began its second term on Monday, January 6, 2025, as students and faculty returned to campus after the holiday break.

The morning began with the customary flag ceremony, where students, faculty, and staff gathered to reflect on the university’s values and commit to the goals of the new academic term. As the ceremony concluded, students proceeded to their respective classrooms, ready to meet their professors and start the subject orientations.

During the orientations, professors covered the important information, including course objectives, course syllabus, academic requirements, and important schedule for the term. Professors also outlined their expectations for class participation and provided resources to help students succeed in their subject. The orientation ensured that students were well-informed and prepared to face the challenges of the semester ahead.

Following the orientations, students engaged in conversations with their peers, sharing stories about their holiday experiences and discussing plans for the semester. Although some students had difficulty in transitioning from holiday break, many expressed excitement and determination to succeed in the new term.

The successful start of the second term highlighted the TUP-Taguig community’s commitment to academic excellence and collaboration as students set their sights on another productive semester.

The Technological University of the Philippines - Taguig officially kicks off the new year with a flag-raising ceremony held on Monday, January 6, 2025, at the campus quadrangle.

Students, faculty members, and staff gather to mark the start of another year and the beginning of a new semester.

The program begins with an invocation led by Sir Christopher Mitchell Azuelo, followed by the raising of the Philippine flag. Announcements are made regarding important updates and activities as the school transitions into the new semester.

Ms. Mitchie M. Caurel, Head of the Office of Student Affairs, delivers an inspirational message encouraging students to begin the year with optimism and a commitment to personal growth.

“Let's start this year looking forward to a better us," Ms. Caurel says, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and hope.

The ceremony concludes with the singing of the TUP hymn, leaving attendees inspired to face the opportunities and challenges of 2025.

The event is happening on the 4th floor I.T. Building— started at 7:30 in the morning.

The Association of Civil Engineering Students is currently hosting the first segment of its KADASIG: 2nd Civil Engineering and Technology Research Congress with the theme "Building Inclusive Futures: Integrating Gender Perspectives in Civil Engineering and Technology for Sustainable Development" at the Conference Hall of the IT building today, November 6, 2024, which officially started at 10:00 AM.

The event began with an invocation, followed by the singing of the national anthem. It then continued delivery of the welcome remarks by the campus director, Engr. Rexmelle F. Decapia Jr., PhD. Subsequently, it is now proceeding with the speech of the keynote speaker, Dr. Melito A. Baccay. It is expected to end with the orientation of the research congress guidelines and will continue later afternoon at exactly 1:00 PM.

This event aims to provide guidance and knowledge focusing on parallel sessions in the field of civil engineering, such as material development, and other branches of civil engineering towards building designs and constructions.

𝗞𝘂𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮 𝗸𝗮, 𝗻𝗮𝗸𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗱 𝗸𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗯𝗮?

Ilang buwan na lang at matatapos na itong taon at 'di ko man lang namalayan, napakarami na pa lang nangyari.

Parang araw lang ang nakalipas noong huling beses akong kumain ng noche buena. Ilang tulog nalang din at magsisindi na muli ng kuwitis kasabay ng pag-ihip ng maiingay na torotot.

Tag-ulan na naman, nakakailang suspende na ulit ng klase dulot ng bagyo. Nagsisisulputan na muli ang nagtitinda ng mga bibingka at puto-bumbong sa tabi ng simbihan, kasabay ng mga kariton ng prutas na tuwing ”ber” months lang makikita.

Gabi na nang ako'y pauwi galing sa campus. Habang binabaybay ang mahangin at malamig na gilid ng kalsada, napansin ko, gawa na pala yung construction na gusaling lagi kong dinadaanan.

Matagal-tagal na rin.

Nasa mesa pa rin ba ang paborito niyang tasa?
Nakasabit pa rin ba sa likod ng pinto ang jacket at pantalong naiwan niya?
Anong pakiramdam na marinig ang kantang paulit-ulit niyang pinapatugtog?
Naaalala mo pa ba ang huling araw na natikman mo ang putaheng luto niya?

The University Student Government-Taguig conducted the 1st day of the assembly and seminar entitled Student Assembly and Leadership Training Seminar (SALTS) with the theme "Breaking Barriers: Embracing Leadership and Gender in Action." The speakers are Mr. Patrick B. Salon and Ms. Vhenlyn Gimena.

It aims to have a connection and strengthen student leaders in different organizations as they embrace their gender.

The USG adviser, Ms. Mitchie M. Caurel, gave motivation in her welcoming remarks, saying that “no leader is born who knows all,” followed by an inspirational and motivational message conveyed by Ms. Mary Rose Gabrielle F. Habla and Mr. Christopher Mitchell I. Azuelo.

The TUP-Taguig GAD Committee held a seminar with Engr. Jasnine Garna as the speaker. She began with an icebreaker activity, "Get to Know Bingo," designed to encourage participant interaction. Engr. Garna then discussed the importance of Gender and Development (GAD), covering key practices and the concepts of s*x, gender, and gender roles.

While in the afternoon, Engr. Garna presented laws related to GAD, including R.A. 9710 (Magna Carta for Women), R.A. 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act), R.A. 11313 (Safe Spaces Act), R.A. 10929 (Anti-Sexual Harassment Act), and R.A. 10627 (Anti-Bullying Act). Followed with a group brainstorming session to address GAD-related concerns within the department and ACSOs.

The Technological University of the Philippines-Taguig's Gender and Development is conducting the 1st day of the seminar and workshop entitled Transformative Change: Advocating for Gender-Responsive Program at the Monte Vista Hotsprings & Conference Resorts, Calamba, Laguna.

It aims to help student leaders from different organizations to analyze GAD related issues and to advocate for programs and activities correlating to gender and development.

Our campus director, Engr. Rexmelle F. Decapia Jr., PhD, conveyed his welcoming remarks. Followed by the objectives of the activity presented by Ms. Imelda L. Papa and the introduction of participants led by Ms. Mitchie M. Caurel.

𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 | 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟯-𝟮𝟰 𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺

On September 23, transport groups PISTON and MANIBELA will launch a two-day nationwide strike to protest the government's Public Transport Modernization Program (PTMP). Over 200,000 jeepney drivers are expected to participate, causing widespread disruptions across the country. The protest comes as drivers and operators voice concerns over the financial strain imposed by the program, which aims to modernize the public transport system.

The PTMP, introduced in 2017, seeks to phase out old jeepneys and replace them with Euro 4-compliant vehicles that are more environmentally friendly and safer for passengers. While the government promotes this initiative as a way to reduce pollution and improve road safety, transport groups argue that the high cost of new vehicles is unaffordable for many small-scale operators. They claim the program forces them into heavy debt, jeopardizing their livelihoods.

Key concerns and demands the strike is centered on several key demands from the transport groups are the following:

1. Scrapping the PTMP
Jeepney operators and drivers are calling for the complete cancellation of the modernization program. They argue that the cost of acquiring new vehicles is too steep and not feasible for most drivers.

2. Opposition to Franchise Consolidation
One aspect of the PTMP requires small operators to merge their franchises into cooperatives or corporations. The transport groups strongly oppose this, believing it strips small operators of their independence and control over their businesses.

3. Franchise Renewal for All
The groups demand that all Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) operators, regardless of their participation in franchise consolidation, should have their franchises and registrations renewed.

4. Rehabilitation Over Phaseout
Instead of phasing out traditional jeepneys, the protestors propose that the government allocate funds to rehabilitate existing units. They argue that upgrading and maintaining the current fleet is a more cost-effective solution that would support local industries.

5. Withdrawal from Consolidation
For those operators who have already been forced into consolidation, the groups are demanding an option to withdraw from the process if they choose.

Impact on commuters and educational institutions the strike is expected to cause significant disruptions. In response to the anticipated disruptions, several universities have shifted to online classes for the duration of the strike. Among the affected schools are Adamson University, Mapua University, Central Escolar University, Far Eastern University, and the University of Santo Tomas. These institutions have moved classes online to minimize the impact on students.

Sa nakalipas na limang pu't dalawang taon, tumatatak pa rin sa mga isip at puso ng mga Pilipino ang kaganapang nangyari sa administrasyon ng dating pangulong diktador na si Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

Ang siyang pinuno ng lahat ng puwersang sandatahan ng Pilipinas para sa mga panahon ng krisis, kaligtasan ng mga tao, at pagpapabilis ng hustisya ay nagdeklara ng Batas Militar noong ika-21 ng Setyembre 1972.

Lingid sa kaalaman ng lahat, ipinahayag ng dating Pangulong Marcos Sr. sa Amnesty International na mahigit 50,000 katao ang naaresto at ikinulong sa ilalim ng batas militar mula 1972 hanggang 1975; kabilang sa mga naaresto ang mga manggagawa ng simbahan, tagapagtanggol ng karapatang pantao, mga abogadong nagbibigay ng legal na tulong, mga lider ng manggagawa, at mga mamamahayag.

P.S. Ang larawan ni Ferdinand Marcos Sr. habang siya'y namamahayag sa bandaang itaas ay ginanap sa isang kilalang unibersidad ngayon sa Taguig. Pinirmahan niya ang batas, Presidential Decree no. 6-A, na kilala bilang Educational Development Decree of 1972. Sa ilalim nito, ang Educational Development Projects Implementing Task Force (EDPITAF) ay nangasiwa sa paglago ng edukasyon sa tulong ng ibang bansa. Isa sa kanilang proyekto ay ang pagtayo ng Manila Technician Institute na kilala ngayon bilang Technological University of the Philippines - Taguig.

Tinalakay din niya ang mga uri ng mga programa ng GAD, ito ay ang client-focused para sa mga mag-aaral at organization-focused para sa mga guro at tauhan ng TUP-T. Ipinasilip din ang mga planong isagawa ng GAD para sa buwan ng Nobyembre at Desyembre patungkol sa VAWC, at ang pagsusulong ng GAD Corner. Nagbigay naman ng reaksyon ang University Student Government ng Taguig (USG-T) bilang boses ng mga mag-aaral patungkol sa mga naisagawa nang mga proyekto ng GAD, kanilang panawagan na sana mas maging inklusibo at client-focused ang kanilang mga programa, at sa darating na National Women’s Day ay kanilang aabangan ang pagbabago at mga aktibidad na isasagawa nito.
