“Beyond Fake News and Disinformation”
Among our lookalike audiences, it seems like we are polarized in Social Media. In reality though, we are not in the Philippines.
Many of us get our news from social media now, which is why we must be wary of disinformation and misinformation coming from all sides. Political partisanship online pervasively biases our reasoning, so we ONLY accept content that confirms our beliefs. Without us being aware, we can be Fake News Peddlers. Biases make people vulnerable to misinformation regardless of which camp they support.
According to Scientific American, supporters from all camps, even journalists and fact-checkers, are subject to psychological biases—and their own political and ideological values influence what they believe to be “facts”, resulting in, what psychologists call, selective perception.
Social media is an open space. We all should take part in fighting disinformation! We also need to learn how to listen to opposing opinions and break free from our own echo chambers. Ask yourself, where are they coming from? ♥️♥️♥️
