PARA PO SA MGA NAGTATANONG

HOMEMADE PITA BREAD

Ingredients
• 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
• 1 tablespoon dry active yeast
• 1 cup warm water
• 2 teaspoons salt
• 1 ½ tablespoons oil
• 3 cups bread flour / all-purpose flour
( i prefer bread flour)

TO MAKE:
1. Whisk together the sugar and yeast in a large bowl, then stir in the warm water. Let the yeast activate for about 5 minutes, or until frothy.
2. Add the salt and oil, mix well using a wooden spoon, then add 2 ½ cups of flour.
3. Continue stirring and add a tablespoon of flour at a time until the dough starts to pull away from the sides.
4. Dust the counter with the remaining flour. Turn the dough out onto the counter and knead it for 15 minutes. If you are using a stand mixer with a paddle attachment then you only need to knead for 10 minutes.
If dough gets too sticky you can add 1 tbsp of flour but don’t overdo it or the dough will become hard. The dough should be tacky but not too sticky to knead.

5. Tuck in the edges of the dough then drizzle some oil in a large bowl, then roll the dough around the bowl to coat with oil.
6. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a clean thin cloth and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

7. Place the dough on clean table and cut it into desired but equal pieces. ( for my 6” pita bread i weigh them about 2oz each.)
Tuck in the edges of each of the pieces to form balls then cover them with cloth and rest for 20 minutes.
8. Roll one of the dough balls out into a ¼ inch thick. Use bowl or deep plate as a cutter if you want perfect circle. (For me i make the best cirlce that i can.)
9. Let the uncooked pita rest for 5 minutes as you heat a non-stick pan or iron skillet over medium heat. Lightly coat the pan with oil then place one of the uncooked pitas in the pan. 10. Cook for 20 to 30 seconds or until you see bubbles start to form, then flip the pita over and cook for another 20 seconds. If you plan to store this for future use, 20 seconds will do because you will re-cook them again as per use.
11. Cover the cooked pita bread with a towel to trap the steam and keep them soft. (Not all of the pitas will puff up, but they should all form large bubbles.)
12. Repeat the process with the remaining uncooked pitas, then serve!

Note:
You can store these pita bread (once it has cooled completely) in a Ziploc bag at room temperature for up to 3 days. Keep them sealed and they all good!

You can freeze these pita bread. Once the bread has cooled, put them in a Ziploc bag and store in a sealed container. They will last for 1-2 months.

Step-by-Step Guide to Making Liquid Fertilizer

1. Collect Organic Material
organic material

Gather organic waste, focusing on plant-based materials. Kitchen scraps (excluding meat and dairy products), yard waste like grass clippings and leaves, and even weeds can serve as the base for your fertilizer.

2. Prepare the Container
Place the organic material in the container, filling it up to about halfway. The size of the container will depend on the quantity of fertilizer you wish to make, but a standard 5-gallon bucket is a good start.

3. Add Water
Fill the container with water, covering the organic matter. Rainwater is ideal due to its purity, but tap water will suffice if left to sit for a day to allow chlorine to evaporate.

4. Fermentation Process
fermate organic waste
Seal the container with its lid, leaving it slightly ajar to allow gases to escape. Stir the mixture every few days to oxygenate it and facilitate the breakdown of materials. The fermentation process can take anywhere from two weeks to two months, depending on temperature and the materials used. You’ll know it’s ready when the mixture smells earthy and the solids have largely broken down.

5. Strain the Liquid
Once fermentation is complete, strain the liquid into another container, removing the solid waste. The resulting liquid is your concentrated liquid fertilizer.

6. Dilution and Application
Before applying the fertilizer to your plants, dilute it with water to prevent nutrient burn. A general ratio is 1 part fertilizer to 10 parts water, but this can vary based on the concentration of your mixture. Apply the diluted solution directly to the soil around your plants.

Benefits and Considerations
fertilizer on a tomato plant
Eco-friendly: This method recycles waste into a valuable resource, reducing landfill use and chemical runoff.
Cost-effective: It utilizes readily available materials, saving money on commercial fertilizers.
Nutrient-rich: The final product is teeming with essential nutrients, including nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.

Embracing this ancient method of making liquid fertilizer not only supports sustainable gardening practices but also connects us with the timeless wisdom of nurturing the earth. By transforming everyday waste into a valuable resource.
