[๐‹๐Ž๐Ž๐Š ] BTVTED kicks off its first Seminar Workshop on Instructional Planning, Assessment Tools, and Educational Frameworks and System

Bachelor of Technical-Vocational Teacher Education (BTVTED) of Santo Tomas College of Agriculture, Sciences, and Technology (STCAST) successfully conducted its first Metacognition Lesson Plan, Session Plan, Test Construction, and Table of Specifications (TOS) Construction Seminar Workshop yesterday, September 7, 2024, held at the STCASTโ€™s gymnasium.

Attendees in the said seminar workshop were all BTVTED students who went through a day full of interactive discussion and sessions which covered the DepEd Matatag Curriculum for Basic Education, Test Questionnaire and Table of Specifications Construction, and Lesson Plan Construction, serving as a challenge to the participants in creating an on-the-spot semi-detailed Lesson Plan.

Dignitary speakers were invited to share their expertise in the education profession, including Maryline C. Jara, EdD, who enlightened participants with regard to the Matatag Curriculum: the currently adopted education system for basic education, while Edgardo Caballero, Master Teacher II supervised the TQ and TOS construction, highlighting its crucial components for effective Assessment Design in education. Further, for Lesson Plan Construction, Jeaniline Montanez, Master Teacher III, shared her proficiency in lesson plan construction, and after some fruitful discussion, the participantsโ€™ knowledge was tested in the on-the-spot lesson plan construction.

The event was initiated by the Technical-Vocational Educatorsโ€™ Society (TVES) organization along with the guidance of the TVES Adviser -Jovelyn M. Simbajon, and the BTVTED Program Head- Dr. Arvin L. Daquiz, to ensure that the future educators honed in the college are competent enough to meet the current needed skills, excellence, and resiliency in the teaching profession as the paradigm shifts.

Erratum: The Master Teacher II in the third paragraph was supposedly Master Teacher III.

[๐๐„๐–๐’] Aidersโ€™ Club holds Effective Basic Life Support and First Aid training

In response to the guidelines set forth by the Department of Health and relevant local government units that all organizations, especially educational institutions, are encouraged to implement regular first aid training sessions , First Aider Club of Santo Tomas College of Agriculture, Sciences, and Technology (STCAST) hosted its third annual Effective Basic Life Support(BLS) and First Aid Training, held at the STCAST gymnasium yesterday, September 5,2024.

STCASTโ€™s College Nurse- Maricor T. Carlon, introduced first aid to the students, followed by the training for BLS given by the guest speaker-Kiefer Lee De Ramos through a two-session training for the morning and afternoon.

Members of the said club from the six programs acquired experiences on how to perform the proper handling of emergency situations including choking incidents, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, managing wounds , injuries , and executing other related basic life support procedures.

Moreover, STCASTโ€™s Aiders already proved their roles for years as they notably marked as life savers in the institution during school events and emergencies, spearheaded by their adviser- Francis Rose Calaranan, who recognized and appreciated the participation of the students and the Aidersโ€™ Club officers.

โ€œEvery second counts,โ€ this is how Guest Speaker Lee Kiefer De Ramos described the pivotal role of aiders since First Aid Training not only empowers participants with critical life-saving skills but also fosters a culture of safety and preparedness within the community. By investing in such training, organizations contribute to building a resilient society where individuals are equipped to handle emergencies effectively, ultimately leading to a safer environment for all.

An empty chair is waiting.

For those who are groping in the dark.
For those students whose eyes are tired aiming for a high mark
For those creative minds who've gotten their doors locked.
And for those fledglings who lost their flock.

Reminisce as you take a seat in life.
Even the mightiest warrior will still need to take a rest in order to survive.
You did great, fighting these battles on your own.
Get some rest, my brave soldier. As a brand new day will come very soon.

[๐€๐๐๐Ž๐”๐๐‚๐„๐Œ๐„๐๐“] STCAST implements "No Uniform, No Entry" Policy

Santo Tomas College of Agriculture, Sciences, and Technology (STCAST) has implemented a "No Uniform, No Entry" policy, effective September 1, 2024, as outlined in Office Memorandum No. 10, Series of 2024, released by the Office of Student Affairs on September 2, 2024.

The memorandum mandates that all students must wear the prescribed school uniform while on campus and also addresses proper attire for special events and activities. Meanwhile, first-year and transfer students were permitted to wear civilian attire until August 31, 2024.

The policy specifies that Physical Education (PE) uniforms should be worn only during scheduled PE class hours. Students may be required to wear specific clothing, such as formal wear or uniforms, depending on the event, with announcements for such requirements provided in advance.

Additionally, students with exceptional circumstances, such as illness, may be excused from wearing the uniform, with documentation possibly requested to support such claims. Failure to comply with the uniform policy may result in disciplinary actions, ranging from verbal to written warnings.

STCAST and the Office of Student Affairs urge all students and program heads to comply with and widely disseminate this new policy to ensure smooth implementation within the college.

[๐๐„๐–๐’] Pamposa wins Air Asia Award in the Senior Category among 400 artists

Carl Benedict Pamposa, a second-year student of Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA) at Santo Tomas College of Agriculture, Sciences, and Technology (STCAST), made waves at the Davao Leg of the Manila Bulletin Sketchfest 2024, held last Saturday, August 31, at the SM City Davao Annex.

Pamposa secured the prestigious Air Asia Award in the Senior Category, standing out among over 400 artists and aspiring artists from various parts of Mindanao.

โ€œDili lang kay Santo Tomas akong gidala nga pangalan sa competition, apan isa sa akong mga lucky charms ang Santo Tomas College of Agriculture, Sciences and Technology (STCAST),โ€ Pamposa shared in his post.

Pamposaโ€™s victory is particularly remarkable, given the intense competition and the limited time he had upon arriving at the venue. In a heartfelt Facebook post, he expressed his gratitude to those who supported him throughout his journey, proudly representing both his municipality and STCAST.

โ€œLate kaayo ko nakaabot sa venue. Within 3 hours and 30 minutes, nahuman ra jud nako. Kulba kaayo kay daghan pud ug hawod,โ€ Pamposa added.

The Manila Bulletin Sketchfest, now in its seventh year in Davao, is celebrated for its focus on spontaneous drawing and sketching talents. This yearโ€™s theme, โ€œAlamat: Mythical Stories and Legends of the Philippines,โ€ showcased Filipino mythology and highlighted the talent emerging from the homegrown artists across Mindanao.

Pamposaโ€™s achievement not only brings pride to STCAST but also shines a spotlight on the exceptional talent of Mindanaoans.

If you decide to cut it short, then cut ties with people who make you feel unworthy.
If you want to take pills, then take a dozen of your happy pills.
If you decide to hang, then hang out with those who value you.
If you want to shoot, then shoot your shot to become the best version of yourself.

You are heard despite your voiceless screams.
You are forgiven despite all the mistakes you've made.
You are perfect despite the scars you've got.
And you are worthy of being loved, even if you've hated yourself a lot.

Know that we would rather listen to your cries and pleas all night than attend your funeral when you're no longer in sight. It will never be an easy battle, yet you started it strong, and you will finish it unbreakably.
You are a warrior, and you are not alone.

In the face of adversity, student journalists navigate the delicate balance between truth and power every day. The courage to uncover hidden truths and the freedom to report without restraint are essential rights that must be upheld and fiercely protected.

As we observe National Campus Press Freedom Day, we reflect on our duty to foster a just and informed community. We, as campus journalists, bear the responsibility not only to report but to inspire dialogue and ignite change, regardless of scale.

Let us stand together in the fight to safeguard and elevate campus press freedom, where our words become the frontline defense of our democracy.
