DON RAMON CELEBRATES 62 YEARS OF TALENT AND TRADITION

Rhythmic beats echoed last night as Don Ramon E. Costales MNHS commemorates its 62nd founding anniversary with dance competitions at the Villasis auditorium.

Ramonians danced the night away during the competition that spotlighted interpretative dance for grade 7 to 9, and ballroom dance for grade 10 to 12.

In the interpretative dance category, each group tells unspoken stories through dancing, but in the end, it was the grade 7 Raging Hornets who emerged triumphant, while grade 8 Growling Tigers and grade 9 Red Dragons ranked first and second runner-up.

For the ballroom dance category, the grade 10 Sparkling Jewels once again claimed the championship title followed by the grade 12 Maroon Falcons as first runner-up, and grade 11 Pink Panthers as second runner-up.

The competition took place after the coronation night, concluding the first day of the said celebration.

Readers' Club spreads love beyond Reading

In pursuit to extending service beyond reading, the Readers' Club, in collaboration with the English Department of DRECMNHS, conducts a gift-giving activity today, February 22, at Tombod Integrated School.

Sheila Ann Sison, the club adviser, and Jigger Diego Matias, Head Teacher of the English Department, planned and organized the said activity in December 2023 but due to the incompatibilities in schedule with TIS, it materialized two months later. The English teachers of the school and various donors worked together to gather funds and materials for the 70 recipients from TIS.

Receivers of the gifts come from different grade levels and were handed with toys, school supplies each and cash for their class.

According to Matias, this year's activity is not as grand as the previous ones but pledges to be back for the next gift-giving.

The activity has been annually practiced by the club and the department since 2017. Feliz Academy Inc. is its constant partner; rendering entertainment with poem-recitation, story-telling ang chorale presentation. Among its recipients were Lepanto, Maborac, Bacag, Bacag Annex of DRECMNHS. It was temporarily halted during the pandemic in 2020 and 2021.

Je-Ann Grace Rapajon and Maya Lozano of the Grade 12 Maroon Falcons sn**ched the champion spot in the female category for the Badminton competition.

17 year old Rapajon mercilessly defeated May Anne Magbitang of Grade 8 Growling Tigers for the singles A with the final tally of 21-8.

For singles B, 18 year old Lozano had a close fight with the Grade 7 Raging Hornets player Althea Mae Domitas for the first set but took over mid game which gave her the lead to take the win.

With a 10-21 score, Irene Grace Damaso of Grade 11 Pink Panthers overpowered Margieline Bulatao for singles D, losing the momentum for the Maroon Falcons.

Both Lozano and Rapajon felt ecstatic after bagging the title stating how hard work always paid off and to never doubt one's self.

The two have been training for 7-8 years, Lozano competing for congressional meet during her elementary days and a consistent gold winner from Grade 7 to 12, while Rapajon garnered 2nd runner up for both doubles and single girls during the municipal meet.

Looking for weak points of the opponents is what gives them the advantage to control the game hence they always use this as a winning strategy.

For inspiration, they always look back at their families and those who believes in them which drives them to push through the difficult game.

On the other hand, sparkling jewels, Aexlinne Marzal triumphed over a heated round against Racy Zyan Aquino after going through 3 continuous sets.

Lozano, Rapajon, Damaso, and Marzal are set to compete at the upcoming Badminton female category municipal level early next year.

Former Palarong Pambansa 2023 qualifier and R1AA Gold Medalist Mary Allen Shendelzare Villedo,16, of Grade Eleven Pink Panthers bagged the gold award for Non-Traditional Forms girl's category in Arnis sports individual competition as she showcased her another striking performance during the heated blastoff of Don Ramon E. Costales Memorial National High School (DRECMNHS) Intramurals 2023.

Villedo started her performance with first salutation together with her stick crossed in front of her, she then proceeded to do various strikes and blocks, somersaults, flips, rolls, and kicks that earned talks and whispers between judges.

After setting the judges' expectations ablaze through her striking performance, Villedo did a final salutation, then faced the judges and waited for the result of her performance.

The ex*****on of every forms was quick, which amazed the crowd who have already anticipated Villedo's victory and the judges who gives her the almost perfect 10 score.

"Wala pong arnis sa intrams kasi konti lang po yung players. Hindi na po kami naglaro, nag-cheer nalang po kami ng mga player," Villedo said as she recalled the time where she wished to join the DRECMNHS Intramurals 2019 but there was no competition for the said sport that time.

Villedo has been training arnis for 8 years which can be spotted on her antonishing movements during her performance in Non-Traditional Forms for girls. According to Villedo, she performed on the spot during the school's event without her practicing the choreography for the competition.

"Sa una, mahirap pero tuloy-tuloy lang hanggang sa matuto kayo kasi once na sumuko ka, hindi mo mararating yung mga gusto mong puntahan," Villedo stated when asked what was her advice to aspiring arnisadors.

Grade 7 Raging Hornets arnisador Shanee Mae Del Prado was placed on the second spot stinging the Grade 10 Sparkling Jewels arnisador Zeanne Mae Oclay who won third place in the said category.

Villedo is set to compete in the Arnis sports competition, municipal level, and hopes to qualify in the Palarong Pambansa 2024.

Grade 10 Jewels glared the Grade 7 Raging Hornets with a score of 3-0 during the final round of women's volleyball held at the DRECMNHS covered court.

In the absence of the Sparkling Jewels' team captain, Kristal Ramat, the Raging Hornets showed off their attacks that gave them points during the first set.

Ramat's arrival made the show even more intriguing as she, together with the middle blocker Divine Domingo, started to catch their scores with services and attacks that the opponents failed to receive.

The setter, Kathleen Flores, gained a point by receiving the ball that fell beyond the opponent's net, together with Ramat—the late-gamer Sparkling Jewels managed to win the first set with a close fight of 25-22.

They did not stop during the second set, as they left a 14-point gap against the Raging Hornets. Ramat's unsavable dumps, together with the services of Paula Lunar and Shenna Corpuz did not allow the opponents to receive the ball.

In the third set, a score of 25-6 drowned the Raging Hornets by Ramat's heavy spikes and Lunar's six straight serves that failed to beat by the opponents, which concluded the game.

Sparkling Jewels will advance to the municipal meet, as they hailed Champion. While Raging Hornets landed Second and Grade 12 Maroon Falcons placed Third.

According to Ermalyn Zambrano, Jewels' volleyball team coach, they only had two days of training in preparation for the intramurals. They will coordinate with the school's officiating team for the players' tournament in preparation for the municipal meet.

Gotham Guardian, Neil John Ramos of Grade 11 overpowered the Man of Steel badminton hero of Grade 8, Reymark Peralta, with final scores of 21-13, 14-21, and 12-10 in the single B Badminton boys championship.

Peralta got the upper hand scoring 2 points ahead of Ramos; however, the Dark Knight of the Pink Panthers caught up and won the first set.

For the second set, Peralta unleashed his kryptonite power as he smashed his way to the scoreboard and defeated Ramos by a tally of 14-21.

The two chased each other down on the last set, not giving one another a chance to lead, making it more intense for the audience to watch.

However, Peralta, even using all of the power within him, lost against Ramos' athletic prowess, earning another win for the Grade 11 Pink Panthers.

"I feel wonderful and blessed," said Ramos after winning, mentioning his family as one of his inspirations throughout the game.

The Grade 11 pride has the least amount of experience within his group compared to the 6-7 years of his teammates; he has only been playing badminton for 4 years and has already won big contests like the congressional and municipal meet last year.

On the other hand, the grade 8 player has surprisingly 3 years of experience, which gained him an opportunity to also compete at contests like municipal and congressional meet.

Ramos shared that controlling the net and having good pacing were his winning strategies, adding to the "Palo Palo lang" strategy of his fellow teammates.

Ramos will join the other Grade 11 Pink Panthers in the single boys category: Gerwel Brayl Raum, John Dave Nario, and Gabriel Anthony Rapada, who also bagged the champion spot for each of their brackets at the upcoming municipal meet happening next year.
