𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗: Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) Director Teresito Bacolcol said that the country could experience earthquakes stronger than magnitude 8.

"The Philippine Archipelago is actually compressed on both sides by the Eurasian Plate and the Philippine Sea Plate, but the Eurasian Plate is almost immobile. The strong motion would come from the Philippine Sea Plate. We are being pushed towards the northwest," Bacolcol said in an interview with GMA News.

“The Philippine Trench here in Samar is capable of generating [magnitude] 8.1 and when that happens, puwedeng mag generate ng tsunami as high as 10 meters. Dito naman sa Manila Trench, puwede siya mag generate ng [magnitude] 8.3 earthquake,” he said.

He added that it might take only five minutes for the first tsunami waves to arrive following the earthquake, making it challenging to send out tsunami alerts as quickly as possible.

Bacolcol urged those living along the coast to recognize the signs of "Shake, Drop, and Roar" following a powerful earthquake.

"When there is a strong shaking to the point you can barely move or can’t stand, there is a sudden drop of sea level, and there is a roaring sound coming from the sea… If that’s one of the things you’ve observed, you have to evacuate to a higher place immediately if you’re in a coastal community," he pointed out.

Bacolcol issued the remarks after a magnitude-7.2 earthquake hit eastern Taiwan on Wednesday, killing 10 people.

Last June, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said over 60,000 fatalities and 120,000 missing people were expected if a 7.2-magnitude earthquake, or the ''Big One'' hit Metro Manila.

DRUG DEN MAINTENER, 6 BUSTED IN STA BARBARA

SANTA BARBARA, Pangasinan – A drug den was dismantled and the maintainer and six of his patrons were arrested in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Ventinilla here on Monday morning, March 11.

Police identified the suspects as drug den maintainer Henry Meneses Lopez, 37; and customers Joseph Andrew del Prado Reyes, 41; Cosme Jose dela Cruz Echanes, 35; Richard Tinambon Reyes, 22; Evangelyn de Guzman Dudang, 44; Charlene Santiago Macaraeg, 28, and Mercedita Cendaña Reyes, 30, all residents of this town.

Seized from the suspects were seven heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu and drug paraphernalia.

The operation was conducted by the police in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Region 1 (Ilocos).

Lawmen have yet to determine the value of the illegal drugs.

TIBA-TIBANG 'KOMISYON' SA GINANAP NA BNEO SEMINAR

TOTOO BA na nagkaroon ng kaliwa't kanan na pangungumisyon sa isinagawang seminar ng Barangay Newly-Elected Officials (BNEO)?

Sa pagbubulgar ng isang impormante, mayroon umanong DILG field officers at Liga Presidents na naging 'ahente' sa mga resorts, hotels at restaurants para doon isagawa ang tatlong araw na BNEO seminar kapalit ng kanilang 'komisyon.'

Maging sa catering na naghanda ng pagkain ng mga Barangay Officials ay hiniritan din umano ng 'porsiyento.'

Sa inilabas na DILG Memorandum Circular 2024-008 ay kailangang maimplementa mula Pebrero hanggang Marso ang BNEO towards Grassroots Renewal and Empowerment for Accountable and Transparent (GREAT) Barangay Program 2023-2025.

Bawat barangay ay obligado na dumalo ang Kapitan, 7 kagawads, SK chairman, barangay secretary at treasurer.

Halimbawa sa isang bayan kung ang registration fee kada participant ng BNEO ay P8,000 at 11 participants ang isang barangay ay aabot sa P88,000 ang gagastusin ng isang barangay.

At kung ang isang bayan ay mayroong 50 barangays at i-multiply ang P88,000 ay aabot sa P4.4-Million ang total budget para sa BNEO seminar.

Dito na papasok ang 'raket' dahil hahawakan ang pondo ni Liga President na kakutsaba ang DILG officer.

Kung hindi pa kabisado ng bagong Liga President ang 'raket' na ito ay si DILG field officer ang magmamaniobra dito. Subalit kung si Liga President ang beterano na sa pangungumisyon dito ay babalatuhan na lang si DILG field officer sa kita.

Noong mga nakalipas na BNEO seminars ay pwedeng ganapin ito sa ibang probinsya at mas malaki ang kokolektahin na registration fees. Subalit dahil sa utos ng Commission on Audit ay ipinagbawal na ito bagkus ay sa sariling probinsya na kailangang ganapin ang BNEO seminar.

May mga bayan na pinili na nilang ganapin ang BNEO seminar sa kanilang municipal training center para libre na ang venue at magsisiuwian na lang ang mga barangay officials sa kanilang mga bahay at babalik na lang uli sila kinabukasan. Dahil dito ay P1,500 na lang ang siningil sa bawat participant para sa kanilang tanghalian at meryenda sa umaga at hapon.

Dahil sa isyung ito ng pangungumisyon ay mayroong isang DILG field officer na napaulat na naglabas ng bagong sasakyan na diumano ay galing sa 'kinita' niya sa BNEO seminar.

Mas maganda kung magsagawa ng imbestigasyon dito si DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos para matalupan ang mga taong nagsasamantala sa BNEO seminar.

Maganda rin na busisihing mabuti ng COA ang liquidation report ng bawat bayan at siyudad kung 'bloated' ang kinulektang mga registration fees para makakuha ng 'komisyon' ang mga nasa likod ng isinagawang BNEO seminar.

Land degradation caused by illegal quarrying has led to decreased fertility, soil erosion, and has a long lasting effect on our environment. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) investigated the alleged illegal quarrying, they found out that this operation started a year ago and that another part in the same Barangay began their illegal quarry operation a few months later.
With further investigation, it was also found out that houses foundations near the quarrying site are bound to collapse when heavy rain comes which pose a great threat to their lives. this illegal quarrying not only left destructions on its wake but also endangered human lives.

The people in the affected areas are asking... WHO WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS??
