AN UNFORGETTABLE CHRISTMAS PARTY CELEBRATED TOGETHER WITH THE MIDSHIPMEN AND BMA STAFF A.Y. 2022-2023

The Baliwag Maritime Academy celebrated The Christmas Party with the coordination of Corps and Staff with the theme "A Warm and Colorful Christmas Succeeds The Dull Experiences of a Quarantined BMA'er." at the academy's grounds last December 19, 2022.

BMA Cadets held their yearly Christmas Party at 0800H in the morning. The exciting event begins with the joyful entrance of each class, beginning with SHS up to the 1/C cadets. The program proper began with the opening remarks, which were followed by the Doxology, which was presented by a few members of the Campus Ministry Group (CMG), and the entrance of the colors. The festivities were preceded by an opening speech by Midshipman Captain Mc Emil Manalastas and a warm Christmas message from the school director Captain Maximo M. Pestano.

The exciting part took place when the SHS to 1/C midshipmen finally showed their talent in dancing with their performance of a Christmas jingle presentation or competition, which brought
a smile to every BMA'er's face. The victors received prizes that were awarded by BMA Teaching and Non-teaching staff. Following the presentation, the cadets participated in some games for which they received prizes. Following the games, a representative from each class parades around in their Santa costumes and performs a quick intermission performance, which adds to the BMAers' enjoyment of the show. The BMA Christmas party program with the closing remarks also serves as their signal to chow.

For many people, this is one of the highlights of the holiday season. Christmas brings family and friends together, possibly from afar, and allows for interaction. Take the time to connect, but keep Christ at the forefront of your mind. Never lose sight of the spark that brought you together in the first place. Celebrate Christ's birthday with your loved ones. Thank God for this wonderful opportunity to spend time with your family. May the lights from the parol guide each family and everyone to a happy Christmas.

BOOSTER SHOT ADMINISTERED TO THE BMA CADETS💉

The local Government of San Rafael Bulacan facilitated a COVID-19 Vaccination event held at Baliwag Maritime Academy (BMA) last October 14, 2022, under the initiative and coordination of the Quality Management Representative to the Municipal Rural Health Unit.

More than 50 Midshipmen were administered with Pfizer Booster Vaccine by the Rural Health Unit of the said municipality. The cadets undergo an interview regarding their health condition as well as their blood pressure as a prerequisite before getting the booster shot.

With the presence of Ma’am Canoza and the Corps and Staff, they monitored and assisted the LGU-RHU and midshipmen. It started at 1300H and was set up on the 3rd floor of the academy's main building. The process of the event ended at 1700H.

BMA recommends midshipmen to get a booster shot for COVID-19 to avoid transmission inside the academy since getting vaccinated without the additional shot would not be enough as a protection for them. To provide long-term protection for everyone, this event was very crucial for an institution to defend its constituents and thoroughly help the government with its goal to achieve its 100% vaccination campaign.

BREAKING BARRIER, LIMITATIONS AND STEREOTYPES, FIRST FEMALE CADETS MARCH OFF AS NEW BMA'ERS

History was made, as eight females engaged and submitted to the challenge of the Baliwag Maritime Academy (BMA) orientation ceremony.

Conducted at 0700h on the 5th of September, 2022. BMA from its founding years and being an academy for merchant marines only accepted male cadets as their students. But upon the adjoint and agreed upon conditions with Southfield Agencies Incorporated ( SFAI) and College of Leadership and Innovation ( CMLI) from University of Makati (UMak), led and under instruction from Dean Captain Paulino Zamesa. Barriers were broken as the academy saw for the first time history being written. As the list of these brave female cadettes Areglado Mae ,Belmi Kia, Bituin Rochelle, Golpeo Erica. Manalo Ayessa Mae, Manimtim Arianne Joy, Samal Almira, and Villanueva Mary Jane headily proceeded and finished the five- day orientation.

Admittedly and in norm the merchant marine and/maritime industry is a world originally made for men. From the strenuous exercises and training to graduation and dispatch for shipboard, a lot would question and say that females don't belong in this world. But UMak and the SFAI scholars and its program begged to differ.

According to Cadette Belmi, She was sickly when she was young, but her strength and stamina, her limitations disappeared. She went hand in hand, head to head with the 73 male scholars of UMak. " The orientation tested my mental. physical and emotional stability, but thinking about my parents, families and my dream to graduate to finally finish what has been an almost 5 year journey. I persisted and finished the orientation".

According to Cadette Bituin, Manimtim and Manalo, Areglado , before the training since there has been a lapse between their cadette life and civilian life because of the pandemic they somehow turned relax and forgot about the will and morale of the maritime industry, but going back and facing the training they were reminded on how to behave following a decorum as prim and snappy as their co second class scholars. Cadette Bituin along with Cadette Belmi even exclaimed humorously that " kahit anong mangyari mas pogi pa rin kami".

On the MarE side Golpeo, Villanueva and Samal the exercises and training were streneous but seeing their peers go through what they are experiencing and bearing their families and aim to graduate in mind, they strived to finish the orientation and rose to become new BMA'ers. According to Erica herself " kahit ano para sa pamilya".

On the fifth day of orientation, in front of all the parents, staff executives, orientation staff and co probes the set of eight female cadettes under the scorching heat of the 0900H -1000H sun rays, smiles and determination were painted from their faces. As finally they get to finish what they've started and trek on the new path as second- class BMA'ers.
