THE 'MISERERE' | Historically, this Psalm was fervently prayed by the priests of Caceres on September 5, 1882, as a powerful vow to the Divino Rostro for the deliverance from the scourge of Cholera Morbo.

This tradition has endured through the years, continuing to be recited with devotion whenever the Divino Rostro is ceremoniously moved from the Basilica to the Old Shrine.

The "Miserere" thus heralds the beginning of the Peñafrancia Fiesta, marking the start of the Novena in honor of the Divino Rostro, and serves as a profound testament to the enduring faith and devotion of the community.
