24th of November marks the church’s celebration of faith, fellowship, and God's abundant blessings. We glorify the Lord as we look back on how He has done great things over the years. Let us not miss this day as Missionary Jeff Mallory carries a message of hope, inspiration, and faith that will surely touch our hearts. With this year’s theme, “𝑰𝒓𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒐𝒄𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒚 𝑩𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒅," it is a clear manifestation that when God blesses, His blessings are irrevocable and overflowing. No one can undo what He has declared over our lives!

The Progression of a Missionary Call

As child, at age 5:
When I am a man, I mean to be a missionary and go to China.

As a young man:
I feel I cannot go on living unless I do something for China.

Late in life, as a veteran missionary:
If I had 1,000 lives, I’d give them all for China.”

We can relate so much to the above quote, except of course it is the Philippines for us.

The last 2 months in the country of our calling was very busy and at the same time full of intentional connections.

We’ve been to church services, youth camps, conferences, lunches and dinners. We’ve sat and listened to dear friends that are hurting and struggling yet determined and victorious. Conversations range from, “Thank you for not forgetting us in our place,” to “You have a new daughter here,” from a precious young lady who had recently lost her mother, to “Please tell us about missionary life, we love the way you do missions.”

We’ve grieved the passing of a few pastors and friends and our hearts hurt for the ones they leave behind. We’ve sat barefoot with ministers at their homes and churches, talking about their passions and dreams for the ones they lead. We’ve sat for hours in coffee shops talking about plans for the future and ways we can work alongside each other. We’ve sat under mango trees and listened to the beautiful singing of our youth and youth leaders all over the Philippines.

We have been to all 3 regions, and out of the main islands, there’s only 1 we’ve haven’t been to. That is Samar Island, and we have plans to go there soon.

There’s so much more to missionary life than a special seat at big conferences and meetings where foreign guests are the speakers. My most favorite thing to do is travel to the home and church of our pastors and leaders and sit with them in their place and just listen to them talk about revival and trials. It’s beautiful to me.

We support many conferences and meetings where we are not the speakers, and we gain so much from our local ministers. They’ve taught us so much.

I say all this to say, I love this Missionary Calling. We once had a friend tell us that we are called and not appointed. We love that.

We are no longer labeled as guests or foreigners. One of the biggest compliments to me was a few weeks ago, as they welcomed all the local pastors and leaders, they invited us to be with our Filipino brothers and sisters instead of the foreign guests. That touched us so deeply.

I had one leader say to me a few months ago, “Sis. Brenda, you really are a Filipina.” Another big compliment to me.

We love this Missionary Calling.

Today the sun rises on a day almost all of us alive have never experienced. A day without Bishop Galos in the world.

It is impossible to over emphasize the consequential life he lived, the miracles he witnessed and the faith he walked in.

He passed from this life having been as productive and virtuous as any person who we have ever been privileged to know. The saints in Bayugan on the Island of Mindanao are mourning as their beloved Bishop has gone to his great reward.

He was one of the original pastors, a pillar of the faith, that launched the great spiritual awakening known as the Philippine Revival that has gone around the world.

One day a book must be written of his life as it would easily contain some of the greatest stories ever told.

From a small church in the late 1960’s to one of the largest and most purely apostolic churches found anywhere in the world, he mentored and discipled countless saints and pastors who spread out across the Philippines and then around the world.

In his “retirement” at 80 years of age he began a new phase of his ministry, taking the gospel to the notorious and dangerous New People’s Army, a militant and heavily armed faction of communist extremists who had murdered many pastors.

A high point in our lives was when we, Jeff and Brenda, as well as dear friends, Pastor Brian and Jessica Lane from Indiana, were in Bayugan for a special service honoring the legacy and life of Pastor Galos.

When we knelt in front of this great man of God it felt as though a Patriarch of old was blessing us.

We carry the memory of that day with us wherever we go.

We honor his life and stand with the thousands of saints and pastors who came out of his ministry.

To the Galos family and the UPC Bayugan church family, we mourn this great loss with you. We are praying for you all.
