The University alarm system across the Saint Therese (ST) buildings went off around 7:20 PM tonight, which lasted about three minutes due to an office paint job.

A staff confirmed that fumes of varnish triggered the smoke and fire detector inside the Center for Guidance, Counseling, Testing and Placement Services Director's office.

However, no classes were reported to have been interrupted by the intermittent alarms.

Meanwhile, the workers had covered up the detectors to avoid further false alarm incidents, and resumed with the paintwork.

ICYMI: In light of the upcoming three-day religious rally of the Iglesia ni Cristo, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has suspended in-person classes for all public and private schools on November 17-18.

Meanwhile, Adamson University has yet to announce its learning modality for the said dates.

BREAKING: Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso has ordered the suspension of face-to-face classes in all public and private schools in the capital on November 17 (Monday) and November 18 (Tuesday) to give way to the peaceful rally of the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) at the Quirino Grandstand in Luneta.

Domagoso said all schools in Manila are advised to shift to Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) during the two-day class suspension.

“I am ordering the suspension of face-to-face classes in all levels on November 17 and 18. All schools are advised to implement Alternative Delivery Mode or ADM,” the mayor said.

Domagoso said the city government will also provide “perimeter support,” including traffic, parking, police and medical assistance throughout the event to ensure order and public safety around the Luneta area.

“While we know that the INC is very organized whenever it holds a rally, the City Government of Manila will deploy teams to monitor and provide assistance outside Rizal Park,” he said.

The Mayor added that 14 ambulance vehicles will be stationed in key locations surrounding the venue for medical emergencies.

Domagoso also noted that although the INC is known for leaving its rally sites clean, the Department of Public Services (DPS) will still be mobilized to maintain cleanliness, especially in areas where ambulant vendors are expected to gather.

“We want to make sure the surroundings remain orderly even beyond the main rally grounds,” he said.

The Mayor said the Manila Police District (MPD) will secure the outer perimeter and nearby streets, while Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) traffic enforcers will be deployed to manage vehicular flow during the three-day event.

AB-AdU urges Adamsonians to join Lakbayan against corruption

Anakbayan Adamson University (AB-AdU) continues to strengthen its anti-corruption calls against the Marcos-Duterte administration, encouraging students to join the “Lakbayan ng Mamamayan Kontra Korapsyon” protest tomorrow.

The anti-corruption rally will have a broad program at Liwasang Bonifacio starting at 2:00 p.m., followed by a march to Mendiola at 4:30 p.m.

The protest demands the arrest of officials linked to alleged flood control project anomalies, as no one has been charged despite months of investigation since July.

In contrast, more than 200 protesters have been arrested since the September 21 “Baha sa Luneta” and Mendiola rallies opposing government corruption.

Additionally, the demonstration seeks justice for flood victims and commemorates the 12th anniversary of Super Typhoon Yolanda.

Meanwhile, Sining Bugkos will stage a street theater performance during the Lakbayan protest, depicting the struggles of marginalized sectors affected by government corruption.

Alongside succeeding coalition activities, these initiatives will build up to the major anti-corruption rally on November 30, coinciding with Bonifacio Day.

Lady Falcons contain FEU in defensive showcase, force way to fourth place

The Adamson Lady Falcons locked down FEU Lady Tamaraws in a wire-to-wire 67-39 victory in the second round of the UAAP Season 88 Women’s Basketball Tournament, last November 2 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Gilas Women 3x3 standouts Cheska Apag and Elaine Etang led the charge for Adamson, firing 15 and 14 points apiece as the Lady Falcons forced a three-way tie for fourth place with FEU and La Salle.

“This [defense] is what we worked on for the past couple of days after our tough loss against UST. As I always said, our team’s strength is our defense so we just have to capitalize on that. Not to gamble too much, just in front of the offense,” said Adamson head coach Jed Colonia.

After a 13-5 opening surge, Adamson held the Lady Tamaraws to a cold 5-of-35 clip in the first half, paving the way for the cast to take a commanding 33-15 edge at halftime.

The San Marcelino-based squad sustained their momentum in the third canto, erupting for a 20-8 run sparked by Apag, Etang, and Brianna Bajo that stretched their lead to 56-31.

With total control in the last frame, Apag and Kim Limbago rained triples while Oluwakemi Adeshina finished the job inside, capping Colonia-led squad’s statement win over FEU, 67-39.

True to their defensive identity, the Lady Falcons outmuscled the Lady Tamaraws, tallying 10 steals to six and four blocks to one.

Meanwhile, Adeshina powered in a double-double outing of 10 points and 11 rebounds, as Jam Meniano came close with nine points and 11 boards.

The Adamson Lady Falcons now hold a 4-6 record and look to topple the defending champions NU Lady Bulldogs this Saturday, at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.

Torres’ heroics not enough to escape FEU in overtime thriller; AdU stays at fourth

Heartbreak struck the Adamson Soaring Falcons as they fell to the FEU Tamaraws, 70-73, in a pulsating overtime duel in the second round of the UAAP Season 88 Men’s Basketball Tournament, last November 2 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Ray Allen Torres delivered a game-high 24 points, drilling four crucial triples and scoring 15 points in the fourth quarter and overtime to keep Adamson in the fight.

After trailing through three quarters, Torres and Cedrick Manzano stepped up for Adamson, stringing together key baskets in the fourth to force an extra quarter at 64-64.

Mathew Montebon sparked life into Adamson with a clutch fadeaway jumper, lifting the Soaring Falcons to a two-point lead at the start of the extra period.

However, the Morayta-based squad wrested back control as Kirby Mongcopa drilled a contested shot to tie the game at 66, before Mo Konateh swatted away Manzano’s mid-range jumper on the next play.

With the game on the line, Torres sliced through three defenders and finished with a crafty layup before the two-minute mark, bringing the match to a 70-all deadlock.

Following a costly foul from OJ Ojarikre, FEU’s Janrey Pasaol drained both shots from the line, followed by Mongcopa’s clutch rejection on Montebon’s triple attempt in the closing seconds.

Adamson’s captain then went for a tactical foul, where Mongcopa missed at the line, but the Filipino-American’s game-tying three rimmed out, handing FEU its second win over the San Marcelino-based squad.

Soaring Falcons head coach Nash Racela emphasized his team’s effort and composure despite falling short in overtime.

“I don’t want to look at it na nagkulang. I think they [Adamson] gave it all. Gano’n talaga ang game. Sometimes we execute, sometimes we don’t. So it just so happened, in the end, sila [FEU] ang nakaangat,” said Racela.

Meanwhile, Manzano posted a double-double performance of 19 points and 12 rebounds to anchor the Falcons on both ends.

Following UST and Ateneo’s earlier games yesterday, the Adamson Soaring Falcons sit in a three-way tie for fourth place, looking to break it against the top-seeded NU this Saturday, at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.

Lauron’s defensive stand shines in Adamson’s narrow fall to FEU

The Adamson Soaring Falcons bowed in a hard-fought clash against the FEU Tamaraws, 0-1, in the second round of the UAAP Season 88 Men's Football Tournament, last Thursday at the UP Football Stadium.

Making just his second appearance after an injury layoff, Adamson keeper Jed Lauron made an early mark, foiling FEU’s Karl Absalon's 3rd-minute attempt to open the first half.

On a swift counter, Luis Becera surged ahead before being brought down by FEU’s RJ Pescadera, whose rough tackle earned a yellow card and a free kick that went just wide.

The resilient Lauron came up big in the 24th minute, shutting down Czam Acosta’s point-blank effort and Selwyn Mamon’s ensuing shot.

"He's [Jed Lauron] doing good [and] he stepped up. The quality of Lauron is different from the other keepers. So we're just thankful that he's back," said Adamson assistant coach Lemuel Unabia.

Pushing for a goal before halftime, Dany Golike broke through for a near attempt, only for the Morayta-based squad's Jet Fabrigas to make the save.

Despite Adamson keeper's earlier gritty stops, FEU scored as Theo Libarnes fired in a close-range goal in the 59th minute to put the Tamaraws ahead midway through the second half.

The San Marcelino-based squad nearly found an equalizer as Pescadera handled Marlon Dasig’s strike in the 67th minute, earning him a red card and setting up a penalty opportunity for the Falcons.

Golike then stepped up for the penalty kick, yet Fabrigas came up with a block to deny Adamson a tying goal.
In the final stretch, Dasig carved out a golden chance with a short strike, but FEU's defense stood tall, sealing a gripping 0-1 escape for the Tamaraws.

Holding a 1-1-6 record, the Adamson Soaring Falcons aim to snap their losing skid against the De La Salle Green Booters on November 6 at the same venue.

Lady Falcons’ offense sputters against immaculate Growling Tigresses, slips to 3-6 slate

The Adamson Lady Falcons suffered a brutal 66-95 beatdown from the UST Growling Tigresses in the second round of the UAAP Season 88 Women’s Basketball Tournament, last Wednesday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Adamson endured a frigid night from the field, sinking only 22 out of 67 attempts on a 32.8 percent shooting.

The Lady Falcons kept the game within striking distance in the first quarter, trailing only 24-26 behind triples from Niclen Manlimos and Cheska Apag.

However, the España-based squad pulled off a 25-10 run and ended the first half with an 11-point margin.

Despite the San Marcelino-based squad’s efforts, UST clamped down and limited them to just 26 second-half points, pulling away behind Kent Pastrana’s double-double performance of 19 points and 12 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Elaine Etang posted 23 points, including her two crucial treys and five steals, while Apag added 16 points, four rebounds, and four steals.

With their recent victory against the FEU Lady Tamaraws yesterday, the Adamson Lady Falcons look to sustain their winning form, facing the NU Lady Bulldogs on November 8 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
