Sen. Robinhood C. Padilla vowed to work with anti-illegal drug agencies in crafting a law that would reclassify cannabis and pave the way for its medical use in the Philippines.

Padilla, during the budget debates on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, recalled a 2020 decision by the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs to reclassify cannabidiol or CBD in its international listing of drugs considered harmful to public health, recognizing its medical value. The senator sponsors Senate Bill No. 2573, or the proposed Cannabis Medicalization Act.

Padilla said he will coordinate with the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) and its enforcement arm Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) to amend the country's anti-illegal drugs law and heed international recommendations about CBD.
