The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) mourns the passing of veteran actress, Ms. Cherie Gil. She was 59 years old.

Cherie Gil is best known for her outstanding performance in television programs and movies such as "Sonata", "Manila By Night", "Oro, Plata, Mata", and "Bituing Walang Ningning".

Because of her remarkable portrayal of villains in some of her projects, she was dubbed as the country's "primera contravida."

In 2019, Cherie Gil was recognized as one of the Philippine Cinema Icons by the FDCP during the celebration of the Centennial Year of Philippine Cinema with the theme "Sine Sandaan."

Her contributions to the entertainment industry will always be remembered.

The FDCP extends its condolences to the family and loved ones of the bereaved.
