JUST IN: The Department of Agriculture (DA) has confirmed the arrival of vaccines for African swine fever (ASF).

Starting Tuesday, Aug. 20, the agency will initiate mass testing of hogs in Batangas to detect ASF infections, which is part of the government’s controlled vaccination program aimed at controlling the spread of the disease.

10,000 vaccine doses will be rolled out, but pigs must test negative for ASF before they can be vaccinated.

While vaccination is voluntary, Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu-Laurel Jr. stated that many local hog producers have already expressed interest in vaccinating their hogs.

Furthermore, the agri-chief disclosed that trials for additional vaccines from Norway and Korea are under consideration and preparation. | via Clay Pardilla

Underscoring the government's commitment of enhancing the skills of the Filipino workforce to foster local empowerment and global competitiveness, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) kicks off a weeklong celebration of its 30th founding anniversary at the World Trade Center in Pasay City on August 19, 2024.

With the theme, ‘TESDA 30th: Continuing Legacy of Empowering Filipinos, Elevating Global Competence,’ the event marks the National Tech-Voc Day and highlights the Agency's three (3) decades of delivering quality technical vocational education and training to Filipinos.

Highlighting the anniversary celebration is the 2024 Philippine National Skills Competition (PNSC) on August 21-25 which brings together more than 200 competitors from across the country to compete for medals and cash prizes in 25 different skill areas. The competition aims to recognize the excellence of young industry-skilled workers and graduates of technical vocational schools and training centers.

The winners of this year's national skills competition will represent the Philippines in the 2025 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) WorldSkills Competition that will be hosted by the country.

Aside from witnessing the competition, visitors can explore the exhibits, participate in interactive activities, and see the programs and services that TESDA offers.
