"You're just overreacting"

"You're not praying that much"

It's Okay To Not Be Okay.

As we celebrate World Mental Health Day, let us remind ourselves that mental health is as important as our physiological health.

It's time to break the stigma. Invisible wounds do not mean it is not valid.

Your disorders do not define YOU.

It's that time of the year again - BER Months are coming, and COVID-19 is in full swing. Anxiety, stress, and paranoia rule our lives and there are no signs that the COVID is slowing down.

Get yourself protected and guard your heart and mental health as well.

Remember, when your mind is restless, your body is in constant state of panic and do more harm than good.

In this article, learn how simple daily routines (that we might have stopped doing during this pandemic) such as exercise and learning new hobbies could ease negative thoughts and set you into the right zone. 🙏

Plus, they're easy to implement in your daily life.

Remember to decongest your mind with so many worries and anxieties. Distance yourself from too many sad news. Your mind is restless when it is overloaded with so many things. Apart from covid, fake news spread faster too and has potential to mess up with your thoughts. Stay mindful, stay calm and stay focused.

Give your body a time to rest and restore. Just like a machine, overwork and too much stress lead to breakdown and damage. Don’t be ashamed to tell someone that you are taking a time off. It is your body and you have to take care of it.

Have you ever felt so tired even after getting 8 hours of sleep? That’s because it’s not just physical rest we need. There are different types of rest our body needs.

PHYSICAL REST
• Passive Rest - sleeping and napping
• Active Rest - restorative stress like yoga, meditation, or massage that improves body’s circulation and flexibility

MENTAL REST
Schedule short breaks every 2 hours throughout your workday. These will remind you to slow down. You can also keep a note pad beside your bed to jot down any nagging thoughts at night that keep you awake.

SENSORY REST
Bright lights, screens, Zoom conversations can cause us to feel overwhelmed. Close your eyes for a minute in the middle of the day to reset the overstimulation. You can also unplug from devices at the end of the day.

CREATIVE REST
Necessary when you’re doing creative work, brainstorming, and you feel like your brain cells have dried up. Take a walk outside. Appreciate art. This will reset the awe and wonder in you.

EMOTIONAL REST
Applicable for people who fall into the trap of people-pleasing. You say yes to everything even if you are depleted. Take a break and remind yourself that it’s ok to say no.

SOCIAL REST
Surround yourself with positive and supportive people. Look for a support group who will listen to you. Let your hair down and allow yourself to unload.

SPIRITUAL REST
Engage in something greater than yourself. Include prayer, reflection, meditation, and community involvement.

You are doing good. This too shall pass.

Don’t be scared of doing things that make you feel better.

Always make yourself feel good by letting go of things you cannot control.

And when it is over, tell this to yourself....

“I’ve made it, and I am stronger now than ever before.”

If you are feeling on the edge, you are not alone. Continue to talk with friends through online chats, remain physically active by doing light exercises at home. Don’t forget the power of deep breathing to restore your rhythm- breathe and relax, and focus on the things you need to get done. Write a note in your journal, clean up your room and organize your stuff. Spend less time reading news about the pandemic as much as possible. If the anxiety is really getting in your way, consider talking with a professional.

If you watch the news for any length of time, you might feel like going to bed and pulling the covers over your head. Preparation for the coronavirus is more than washing your hands; it's cleansing your mind, too, of overkill, overblown news coverage and over-reactions.
