SOUTH KOREA TO BUILD A SMART CITY IN CLARK, PAMPANGA🇵🇭🇰🇷

Clark Development Corporation (CDC) and the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to bolster their partnership in developing the Clark Smart City project in Pampanga.

CDC President and CEO Manuel R. Gaerlan and LH Chief Executive Officer Kim Hyun Jun signed the pact for the “Clark Smart City Urban Development Project” during a simple ceremony held at the Clark Visitor’s Center.

Under the MOU, CDC and LH will work together to facilitate and attract potential investments, including but not limited to small and medium-sized firms that will contribute to the smart city project’s implementation.

Both parties also agreed to collaborate on enhancing trade, investment, and tourism activities in this Freeport for the efficient and successful fulfillment of the project. The smart city is envisioned to be developed in an approximately 104.8 hectares prime property within this Freeport.

“Clark Development Corporation values the support of the Korean Government, LH, Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation (KIND), and other counterparts since this (project) started a few months ago. We are very happy that we are now seeing the completion of the feasibility study for the project. I hope that this will be the start of a lasting partnership between CDC and LH, Korea and the Philippine government,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kim expressed optimism on the smart city project and commended CDC for the warm reception and hospitality shown to them during their visit in the Freeport.

Legaspi headed and directed the submission of CDC’s proposal for the K-City Network 2021 Smart City Development Planning grant competition. The proposal presented by CDC ranked 1st among the 111 entries from 39 countries evaluated on the program administered by the Korean Ministry of Land Infrastructure and Transportation (MOLIT).

JUST IN: DENR Acting Secretary Jim Sampulna said the Manila Bay Dolomite Beach will be reopened to the public on June 12 coinciding with the country’s celebration of Independence Day.

Manila Bay Coordinating Office Exec. Dir. Jacob Meimban clarified that the beach reopening is only for visitation, walking, & sunset viewing, & not yet for swimming as water quality is still not within the 100 most probable number per 100 milliliters standard f***l coliform level.

Once it reopens, the DENR will allow 1,500 to 3,500 persons at a given time inside the 500-meter span of the dolomite beach to ensure that the minimum health protocols are strictly followed.

Online pre-registration is not needed under Alert Level 1 but encouraged visitors to be fully vaccinated before their visit.

INCREASING SOCIAL PENSION

Sen. Joel Villanueva thanks his colleagues, especially Senate President Vicente Sotto III, for supporting the passage of Senate Bill No. (SBN) 2506 seeking to increase the social pension of indigent senior citizens, and SBN 1834 or the Philippine Digital Workforce Competitiveness Act Monday, May 30, 2022. Villanueva, sponsor of both bills, said the increase in social pension from P500 to P1,000 is the least that could be done for indigent senior citizens who face unemployment and lack of funds in their old age. Meanwhile, Villanueva said the approval of SBN 1834 would prepare the Filipino youth for jobs and skills for the future. “The challenge for us is to enhance the digital skills of our people thru formal education and training and life-long learning opportunities. This bill introduces a legal framework in terms of providing the necessary digital infrastructures and upskilling the Filipino workforce on digital technology and innovations. Life is digital. We have to catch up and jump on board because the movement to digital life is fast and real,” Villanueva said. (Voltaire F. Domingo/Senate PRIB)

ARE YOU READY CEBU? LAPIT NA SUGDAN ANG MONORAIL BAI!

A COMPREHENSIVE and realistic master plan that will improve the traffic situation of Cebu City may be crafted by July 2022.

Among the topics that will be discussed at the summit are the proposed mass transport system for Cebu City such as the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), monorail and subway system.

The P80 billion monorail project had been envisioned to serve as the mass transport backbone of Metro Cebu, traversing Cebu City all the way to the Mactan-Cebu International Airport in Lapu-Lapu City for its first phase. The second phase was to run from Talisay City to Mandaue City, while the third phase was to be from Carcar City to Danao City.
