Resurrection Sunday musings....
It is finished
The Greek word for the phrase above is 𝑻𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒊.
𝑻𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒊 as a term used in business meant a
debt is fully paid.
It was also used in the justice system and the courts referred to 𝑻𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒊 to indicate that a
sentence had been served in full.
As a military term, it was used to mean the battle has been won.
So when Jesus said, it is finished, 𝑻𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒊, he actually meant:
1. Our debt incurred from sin was now fully paid
2. Our sentence from the judgment of what we deserve by it has been fully served.
3. Our battle against the devil and the enemy has been won
This Easter, we rejoice and rest in the finished work of the cross.
It is finished. 𝑻𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒊.
Debt is fully paid.
Sentence is fully served.
Battle is fully won.
Jesus fought the battle and by His death, we get the victory.
Thus we are called upon to be what St Augustine described as Easter people. To live our lives mindful and grateful of the Lord's ultimate sacrifice of love by living his example each day.
On a day when the promise of eternity was fulfilled by Christ's conquest of death, I am left to ponder on the essence of my humanity.
"For small creatures such as we, the vastness is bearable only through love."
Thank you, Lord! 🙏❤️
