Pagpupugay sa Ama ng Wikang Pambansa

Ngayong ika-19 ng Agosto, ipinagdiriwang natin ang Araw ni Quezon, bilang paggunita sa ika-146 taong kaarawan ni Manuel L. Quezon, ang ikalawang pangulo ng ating bansa at ang kinikilalang Ama ng Wikang Pambansa.

Ayon sa Republic Act no. 6741, ang Agosto 19 ay idineklara bilang araw ng pagdiriwang sa kanyang kaarawan sa lungsod at lalawigan ng Quezon, pati na rin sa probinsya ng Aurora.

Hindi natin maitatanggi ang malaking ambag ni dating Pangulong Quezon sa kalayaan na tinatamasa natin ngayon. Siya ang naglatag ng pundasyon ng isang malayang Pilipinas. Pinag-isa niya ang mga Pilipino, binigyang-halaga ang edukasyon, at itinaguyod ang paggamit ng wikang pambansa.

Ang wikang pambansa ay hindi lamang isang kasangkapan sa pakikipag-usap, kundi isang simbolo ng ating pagiging Pilipino. Sa bawat salita, sa bawat parirala, nagpapakita tayo ng ating sariling pagkakakilanlan—isang pagkakakilanlan na malaya at tunay na atin.

Sa pagdiriwang ng Araw ni Quezon, dapat nating tandaan ang kanyang mga ipinaglabang adhikain at magsikap na maging mga tunay na Pilipino na nagmamahal sa ating bansa, sa ating wika, at nagsusumikap para sa pag-unlad nito.

Patuloy nating paunlarin at gamitin ang ating pambansang wika.

JUST IN | University President Frederick T. Villa, DT and other university officials have just arrived today in Polillo to attend the 29th Commencement Exercises of Southern Luzon State University - Polillo Campus.

They are warmly welcomed by the faculty with a musical performance from the SLSU Polillo Marching Band right at the port of Polillo.

The 29th Commencement Exercises will be held later at 5:00 pm at Polillo Sports Complex.

IN PHOTOS | Southern Luzon State University - Polillo Campus held its 29th Baccalaureate Services & Hooding and Capping Ceremony for the Graduating Class of 2024 at St. Joseph Parish Church last August 12th.

Rev. Fr. Ceferino Valenzuela Jr. presided over the Baccalaureate Mass, giving grace and blessings to the graduating class. This was followed by the offering of symbolic offerings.

After the mass, the graduating BEED students proceeded to the hooding and capping ceremony, symbolizing their entry into the field of professions.

Following this, the candle lighting ceremony took place, signifying the passage of knowledge and wisdom.

Lastly, students who showcased exemplary performance received departmental and co-curricular awards.

𝘿𝙞 𝙆𝙖 𝙋𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙞𝙡

Sa muling pag-gunita ng ika-126 taon ng pagkamit ng KALAYAAN ng Pilipinas, nawa'y maalala natin ang kagitingan at katapangang ipinamalas ng ating mga bayani. Ang kanilang pinagsamang talino at isinakripisyong dugo ang nagsilbing tulay upang makamit ang kalayaang ating tinatamasa ngayon.

Taong 1898, unang nasaksihan ang pagwagayway ng opisyal na bandila ng Pilipinas, tanda ng pagkamit ng kasarinlan mula sa mananakop na mga Espanyol. Ang simbolo ng pagkalas ng Pilipino mula sa tanikala ng mga mapang-aping dayuhan.

Ngunit ngayon, masasabi mo bang tayo ay tunay na malaya?

Malaya ba tayo sa pang-aabuso ng mga may kapangyarihan?
Malaya ba tayo sa yakap ng kahirapan?
Malaya ba tayo mula sa kurap na gobyerno?
Malaya ba tayo sa kuko ng mga oportunistang kapitalista?

Malaya ba nating nailalahad ang ating sarili nang walang iniisip na panghuhusga?
Malaya ba tayo sa pagpapahayag ng ating saloobin nang walang pag-aalinlangan?

Sa pagdiriwang ng araw ng kalayaan ngayong taon na may temang “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, at Kasaysayan,” nawa'y tayong mga kabataan — ang KINABUKASAN ng bayan, ay maging kabahagi ng laban para sa karapatan at kalayaan. Huwag tayong magpapalupig sa mapanlinlang na mga ideolohiya, sa mga sakim na kapitalista, sa mga ganid at makasariling politiko, at sa mapang-alipustang bansa na nagnanais kumamkam ng ating teritoryo.

Huwag na nating ulitin ang mga pagkakamali ng nakaraan. Matuto sa KASAYSAYAN, lingunin ang kahapon, tumindig ngayon, at magsulat ng bagong kabanata sa kinabukasan ng isang mapagpalayang bansa.

Mabuhay ang Pilipinas, Mabuhay ang mga Pilipino!

𝙉𝙀𝙒𝙎 | Prof. Quesea talks about mental health and leadership at Team Building '24

During the team building event hosted by the Supreme Student Council Polillo, campus director Prof. Ethel Q. Quesea delivered a message focusing on mental health and leadership covering topics such as leadership strategies to coping mechanisms for stress.

Prof. Quesea, highlighted the huge importance of understanding one's strengths and weaknesses before leading others, asserted, “You cannot give what you don't have.” As future educators, the students were reminded of their crucial role in shaping the future, where leadership skills are integral to their professional journey.

Prof. Quesea highlights the significance of mental well-being, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and understanding our mental health to support both ourselves and others. The discussion candidly delves into stress triggers, from familial pressures to financial challenges, encouraging students to address rather than evade these obstacles. Additionally, she dispels the misconception that stress signifies weakness or illness, clarifying it as a natural reaction to life's challenges.

𝙉𝙀𝙒𝙎 | SLSU Polillo Promotes Advocacy for Environmental Conservation

Southern Luzon State University Polillo, together with the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office and Bantay Kalikasan Polillo, gathered for a clean-up drive and tree planting event held at the seawall in Purok 6, Brgy. Poblacion Polillo, Quezon, on May 24, 2024.

The initiative is part of SLSU's long-term advocacy to promote sustainability and environmental awareness among its students. Prof. Ethel Quesea, SLSU-Polillo Campus Director, emphasized in her address, "We should care for the future generations as much as we care about the present."

The program was attended by fourth-year and second-year college students, with the guidance of Prof. Marites De Leon. Despite the unpredictable weather conditions, participants actively engaged with the guidance of MENRO and Bantay Kalikasan, showing their dedication towards environmental conservation.

As attendees covered their hands with dirt and sweat, not only did they simply plant trees, but they also planted seeds of hope for a possibly brighter and greener tomorrow.

𝘽𝙍𝙀𝘼𝙆𝙄𝙉𝙂 𝙉𝙀𝙒𝙎 | SLSU Polillo secures 100% passing rate for first-time takers in March '24 LEPT for both elementary and secondary level

In the recent March 2024 Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers, all 16 examinees, 8 at the elementary level and 8 at the secondary level, passed the examination on their first attempt. The newly licensed elementary teachers are Reymart Almirez, Ronabel Balbuena, Maria Denice Bautista, Rona Mae Cananca, Queen Mae Dionco, Jomarc Leynes, Mariziel Portales, and Joshua Urgelles. Similarly, Noralyn Bosque, Annamarie Bulalacao, Judie Ann Ducosin, Reina Jane Guzago, Glady Ann Reyes, Ashly Mae Ricarte, Ivie Roga, and Shaina Ruatorez succeeded in becoming licensed secondary science teachers.

This outstanding achievement led to a 100% passing rate for SLSU Polillo in the examination, with all examinees being first-time test-takers. In addition, Jerick Ritual and Joanne Señaroza, two out of seven retakers, also successfully passed the LEPT Elementary Level, resulting in a passing rate of 28.57% for the retakers.

𝙉𝙀𝙒𝙎 | SLSU OSAS holds career coaching and exit conference for BEEd Graduating Class ‘24

The 67 graduating BEED students of Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) Polillo Campus underwent a career coaching and exit conference administered by the SLSU Office of Student Affairs, led by Prof. Joanna Rodessa R. Capilitan, RGC, and took place on the third floor of the SLSU Polillo Main Building on May 17.

During the conference, Prof. Capilitan, the designated Guidance Counselor of the campus, highlighted the importance of having an attitude of gratitude in the workplace. She stressed the significance of being grateful to one's co-students, instructors, community, and the university.

Prof. Capilitan asked the students, "When was the last time you thanked yourself?" She emphasized the need to never forget to appreciate their achievements, no matter how small or big they may be.

Additionally, Prof. Capilitan discussed the differences in the workplace, addressing the diverse generations present, including Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z. She reiterated the importance of respect and being flexible in the workplace.

The career coaching session also covered key points of resume preparation, appropriate dress code, and strategies to succeed in job interviews. The event was attended by 67 deployed Pre-Service teachers, who were preparing for their transition into the professional world outside the campus community.

As you embark on the final leg of your college journey, always remember the countless hours you sacrificed. From meticulously planning lessons and creating instructional materials to grading assessments and guiding young minds. Your dedication has not gone unnoticed.

Now, as you stand on the precipice of your final teaching demonstration, always remember to believe in yourselves, stay confident, and trust in your abilities. Take a deep breath, stay focused, and remember that this is your moment to showcase the fruits of your hard work and dedication.

May 1st, known as "Mayo Uno," holds tremendous significance for Filipino workers. It is a day that acknowledges their unwavering commitment, tireless dedication, and remarkable contributions to our society.

On May 1, 1903, the Union Obrera Democratica Filipinas (UODF), the pioneering labor union in the Philippines, organized a historic march to Malacañang. This momentous event marked a turning point in the struggle for equal rights, fair treatment, and improved working conditions for Filipino workers.

Renz Denniel Elquiero's award-winning photograph, which earned him 2nd place in the Art-Photography category at the CAF event, beautifully captures the theme of "moments" in CAF 2024, showcasing the essence of creativity and expression.

In his captivating shot, Elquiero skillfully captures a poignant moment where an individual is immersed in the act of creating art. The photograph portrays the artist's passion, concentration, and dedication as he pours his soul into the painting. Through his lens, he invites viewers to witness the transformative power of art and the joy of artistic expression embodied in the solitary pursuit of creativity.

"Sa totoo talaga hindi ako ang pang laban sa Photography, kung baga ako lang yung pumalit. Nung una ayaw ko sumama at nakalaban na ako nung CAF '22 nakuha ko ang 4th runner up out of 5 participants. Kaya na discourage na sumalit ulit at pangalawang sali ko na, so dagdag ang pressure pero pinursige nila akong sumama at wala nga raw iba," Elquiero stated with a hint of doubt.

He also mentioned that being a student photojournalist greatly enhanced his photography skills. "Yung preparation ko is nag reflect lang ako kung ano yung kulang ko nung unang sali ko, malaking tulong sa akin yung pagsali ko [bilang] Photojourn[alist] dahil na enhanced yung skill ko in terms of photography. Super grateful na nasungkit ko ang 2nd place sa Photography, super memorable kase huli ko na itong laban," Elquiero said gratefully.

Elquiero's snapshot showcases his artistic talent and embodies the ICCAC-CAF event's spirit, which celebrates creativity, innovation, and cultural exchange. His photograph serves as a testament to the importance of capturing and cherishing meaningful moments that inspire, connect, and unite individuals from diverse backgrounds.

SPORTS NEWS | Malabonga embraces the 3P's of Success, winning Bronze at the Kundiman Competition.

On Friday, April 5, 2024, Kristel Rose Malabonga secured a bronze medal at the Kundiman competition during the recent CAF held at SLSU-Main Campus in Lucban, Quezon where she performed the Kundiman song "Nasaan ka, Irog?"

Malabonga mentioned that she didn't have much time to prepare for the competition. She expressed, “Actuallly, wala masyadong time for preparation dahil nag-exam noon ng prelim tapos holy week…parang once lang kami nagkaroon ng time magpractice magkakasama — 2 days before kami lumuwas [at] saka nung nandun na kami, pero lagi kong pinapakinggan yung kanta saka minus one—like anywhere at anytime. Tapos, 3 times kami nagdasal at sumimba sa simbahan ng Lucban.”

During the competition, they faced struggles such as wardrobe malfunctions, she also admitted feeling nervous while singing. She shared, "Nagstruggle kami nila ma'am Len, Angel, [at] Sharmaine dun sa damit ko…sobrang maluwag, hindi ako komportable. Isa pa ay yung kaba di mawawala, nangangatog ang tuhod ko nung nakanta ako."

Malabonga confessed that she didn't expect to win as there were many talented participants. She always reminded herself of one phrase during the competition, "Ang nagpapakababa ay itinataas,at ang nagpapakataas ay ibinababa."

The lesson she learned after the competition was encapsulated in the 3P: Prepare, Practice, and Pray.

In a gripping contest for the bronze medal at SLSU Field on April 4th, the Polillo Lady Seahawks, led by the formidable duo of Mary Jane Azogue and Irish Catherine Baloro, soared to victory in an electrifying beach volleyball showdown and secured the coveted third-place spot against the Alabat Lady Sharks.

Azogue and Baloro showcased outstanding synergy and teamwork, dominating the court with precision and agility. They demonstrated resilience and determination, rallying through intense exchanges to claim crucial points.

Reflecting on the challenges they faced throughout the tournament, Mary Jane Azogue remarked, "Actually, hindi kami gaano nakapag-training, simpleng drills lang ang nagawa namin para kahit papaano 'di ganoon manibago ang katawan sa darating na tournament. Saka nanibago lang kami nung una, kumbaga nangangapa kami sa mga galawan ng isat-isa." Her emphasis on maintaining a humble and positive attitude, regardless of the outcome, highlights the importance of sportsmanship and mental strength.

Their victory underscores the indispensable nature of teamwork, effective communication, and mental resilience in achieving success on the beach volleyball court. Moreover, it serves as a testament to the unwavering dedication and relentless determination that propelled the Polillo Lady Seahawks to triumph. SPORTS NEWS | Seahawks men’s beach volley duo ends their run with a silver medal finish

At the thrilling ICCAC 2024 men's beach volleyball championship at the SLSU Field in Lucban, Quezon on April 4th, the Polillo Seahawks, led by star players Jhondeno Lumabe and Alger Tininahan, showcased their remarkable digs and spike, ultimately securing the silver medal.

The championship match against the tough Tagkawayan Tigers was a true test of their determination and resilience. Both teams gave their all, showcasing their skills and never-give-up attitude. The Polillo Seahawks fought bravely, winning one game but narrowly missing out on the gold with a final score of 2-1 in favor of the Tagkawayan Tigers.

The Polillo Seahawks faced a unique challenge due to limited training hours because of their academic responsibility. However, they still managed to balance their academics and intense training under the guidance of Mr. Jerico Marasigan. Their dedication and responsibility set the stage for their incredible journey.

Even though they didn't defend the crown, the Polillo Seahawks proudly claimed a well-deserved silver medal. Their amazing talent and teamwork were on full display throughout the championship, showing everyone that they are a force to be reckoned with in beach volleyball.

As they look back on their journey, the Polillo Seahawks have some valuable advice for future players.
They stress the importance of thorough preparation as the key to their success. Lumabe stated, "...maging preperado sa lahat ng oras, mag training na sila agad kahit matagal pa ang laro, pairalin ang pagiging disiplinado at tanggapin ang anumang magiging resulta."

Their dedication to training and managing their commitments serves as a reminder that hard work and discipline are crucial for achieving greatness.

SPORTS NEWS | Emerging Seahawks Athlete claim two silver medals in Javelin and Discus Throws at ICCAC 2024 Athletics Tournament.

In a thrilling showcase of athletic prowess on April 1st, the ICCAC 2024 Athletics Tournament mesmerized spectators and participants alike. Among the standout athletes was Michael Jhon Ballesteros of the SLSU Polillo Seahawks, who secured an impressive 2nd place in both the javelin and discus throw held at the SLSU Field.

In the discus throw event, Ballesteros of the SLSU Polillo Seahawks secured second place with a throw measuring 23.32 meters. Furthermore, in the javelin throw competition, Ballesteros attained second place with a throw covering a distance of 34.20 meters.

His exceptional performance, utilizing the spin technique, power position, and strong grip, demonstrated his remarkable skill and dedication to the sport. "Kinundisyon ko lang ang katawan ko, kumain nang sapat, saka yung daily routine ko na pagwowork out," emphasized Balesteros, reflecting on the dedication required for success in athletics.

Acknowledging the obstacles he faced, he admitted feeling nervous when he saw his competitors, some of whom were towering figures. It was also his first time competing away from home, but despite the nerves, he remained focused. "Kung gusto mo talaga makuha ang medalya, kailangan talaga ng hard work. More practice lang talaga," he concluded, emphasizing the importance of consistent effort in achieving victory.

Ballesteros' commitment to excellence inspires aspiring athletes, highlighting the importance of relentless hard work and consistent practice in pursuit of success.
