BSP: MAJORITY OF FILIPINOS SUPPORT POLYMERIZATION OF PH BANKNOTES

A SURVEY conducted by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) showed that majority of Filipinos support the polymerization of Philippine banknotes.

According to the BSP, its Consumer Expectation Survey conducted in the first quarter of the year found that 61.3% of respondents supported the overall initiative of Philippine banknotes polymerization, higher than the 10.9% in the previous year.

The central bank earlier this month unveiled the new polymer banknotes that come in denominations of P500, P100, and P50, showcasing images of native and protected species, as well as local weave designs.

The new polymer banknote denominations will be available in limited quantities in the Greater Manila Area this December, but are set to fully enter into circulation in the first quarter of 2025.

"The foregoing premises consider, the Commission (First Division) holds that Respondent's filing of his COC for the position of Mayor of Bugasong, Antique constitutes a violation of the three-term limit rule.

Wherefore, premises considered, the Commission (First Division) resolved as it hereby resolves to grant the petition dated 16 October 2024. Accordingly, the Certificate of Candidacy of Respondent John Lloyd M. Pacete for the position of Mayor of Bugasong, Antique is hereby cancelled," part sang resolution sang Comelec First Division.

ECONOMIST SEES INFLATION SETTLING AT 2.6% IN DECEMBER

HEADLINE inflation will likely settle at 2.6 percent this month, well within the government’s 2 percent to 4 percent target range, due to lower rice prices, an economist said.

“Inflation could remain relatively benign and still well within the BSP’s inflation target of 2 to 4 percent, largely due to lower rice prices, which account for 9 percent of the CPI (consumer price index) basket due to lower tariff on imported rice,” Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. chief economist Michael Ricafort told the Philippine News Agency.

Headline inflation settled at 2.5 percent in November.

Rice was a significant driver of inflation since September 2023.

o reduce rice prices, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. signed and issued Executive Order (EO) 62, series of 2024 on the Comprehensive Tariff Program 2024-2028 on June 20.

Implemented in July, the EO includes reducing the tariff on imported rice from 35 percent to 15 percent, which contributed to some moderation in retail rice prices in the local market.

As of November, rice inflation continued its downtrend to 5.1 percent from 22.5 percent in June.

In today's Lapsus Calami— DRUG SUSPECT’S ESCAPE EMBARRASSES MOLO POLICE

THE AUDACITY of Inday Jennifer, the Houdini of Molo Police Station! Pwerte!

Complaining of an upset stomach, this drug suspect made her way to the CR (comfort room) under the watchful eyes of male officers who, citing “gender sensitivity”, opted to close the door rather than maintain proper supervision. That decision proved costlier than they could have imagined. Haslo!

Once inside, Inday Jennifer choreographed her escape with an ingenuity that would make any action movie proud: turning on the faucet to mask her movements, scaling a chair to reach the unbarred window, and leaping into temporary freedom.

But she didn’t flee to a safe house or a remote hideout — she was found shortly after, casually enjoying barbecue at the Iloilo Central Market. Freedom, it seems, is best paired with grilled skewers.

Now, the Iloilo City Police Office is in damage control mode, launching a motu proprio investigation to determine kuno whether negligence played a role in this escapade. Kailangan pa ba itanong yan? Tonto!

This wasn’t just a case of a suspect slipping away; it was an embarrassing reminder that the responsibilities of law enforcement don’t pause for bathroom breaks. Tarso!

Say mo, General W***y?
