D/C John Paul Arellano, a dedicated and promising cadet of Iloilo Merchant Marine School (IMMS), has embarked on his international shipboard training under Epsilon Maritime Services. Having completed his academic requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation on July 20, 2024, as a member of Batch Alab-Masinag, has now taken the next significant step in his maritime career.

On September 5, 2024, D/C John Paul Arellano joined his international shipboard training, marking the beginning of a new chapter where he will apply the knowledge and skills acquired during his time at IMMS. His training with KJCM Navios under Epsilon Maritime Services will provide him with valuable real-world experience aboard an international vessel, navigating through diverse routes and facing the challenges of life at sea. This hands-on exposure is vital in molding a competent and versatile mariner ready to face the evolving demands of the maritime industry.

The rigorous training program will allow D/C John Paul Arellano to build on his competencies, develop leadership qualities, and cultivate a deeper understanding of the industry’s complexities. His dedication and passion for the maritime profession exemplify the spirit of Batch Alab-Masinag, and his journey resonates with IMMS's mission of fulfilling maritime dreams.

John Paul expresses his profound gratitude towards IMMS: “I am deeply grateful to IMMS for the invaluable knowledge, mentorship, and experiences I have gained during my time there. This institution has not only expanded my academic horizons but has also shaped me into a more critical thinker, problem solver, and leader in my field. The challenges I've faced and the opportunities I've embraced have prepared me for the path ahead, and I will carry the lessons learned here throughout my professional journey.”

He continues to reflect on the essence of his journey with inspiring words: “As future mariners, we carry the spirit of exploration and responsibility. Iloilo Merchant Marine School (IMMS) upholds a long-standing tradition of beginning and ending each day with mustering and formal dismissal—a practice that instills discipline and fosters a dignified manner among students as they exit the institution’s premises.

Mustering is a daily routine followed by every student. During this process, the number of students is counted, uniforms are inspected for compliance with the school's standards, and nails and haircuts are checked to ensure they meet the required appearance. Each student at IMMS is required to adhere to this routine.

The Corps of Midshipmen (COM), the highest student governing body at IMMS, manages the mustering and dismissal operations daily. This routine has been consistently observed over the years and has become an integral part of student life.

For every Mandaragat, this daily dismissal serves as a reminder of the values of discipline and professionalism that IMMS instills in its cadets—truly, a distinctive way to close the day.

On May 1, 2023, Deck Cadet Henry Magno Cleofas II embarked on an extraordinary journey with GTEXPRESS SHIPPING CORPORATION, marking a pivotal chapter in his maritime career. This moment is more than just a milestone; it is a testament to his relentless pursuit of his dreams and the enduring spirit of the Iloilo Merchant Marine School (IMMS), where his journey began.

From his earliest day at Iloilo Merchant Marine School, D/C Cleofas embraced the rigors of maritime education, drawn to the ocean's vastness and the call of the seafaring life. At IMMS, he found more than just a school; he found a launchpad for his aspirations—a place that fueled his desire to conquer the seas. While his education laid a strong theoretical foundation, it is the hands-on experiences aboard the vessel that have truly shaped his journey, adding depth to his learning and character. “My time as a deck cadet has been transformative," D/C Cleofas reflects. "Working at mooring stations and maintaining deck equipment taught me the importance of attention to detail and teamwork. Ensuring everything operates smoothly is essential for safety and efficiency."

But D/C Cleofas' training is not confined to the physical tasks of a seafarer; it also encompasses the art and science of navigation. Engaging in chart planning and route strategizing under the guidance of seasoned officers, he learns the complexities of maritime navigation. This hands-on mentorship is not only honing his technical skills but also instilling in him the confidence to lead as a future maritime professional.

Beyond his personal achievements, D/C Cleofas carries a heartfelt message for aspiring seafarers. “To all aspiring seafarers, never let go of your dreams. The sea will test you, but it is in those tests that you find your true strength,” he advises. He acknowledges that setbacks are part of the process, yet he encourages others to remain steadfast. “Always keep moving forward. Your dreams are worth the effort,” he emphasizes.

𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟐𝟗, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 || The Iloilo Merchant Marine School (IMMS) held a significant event to formally welcome the newest members of its Media Team, who successfully passed a rigorous screening process. These students demonstrated exceptional skills and a strong commitment to the school's media initiatives.

The event commenced with an inspiring address from Mrs. Rose Cherry G. Moncerate, School President, who highlighted the crucial role of the media team in upholding the institution’s values and enhancing its visibility through various social media channels. She emphasized the importance of integrity, responsibility, and creativity in the tasks that lie ahead, congratulating the students on their achievement and encouraging them to continue striving for excellence.

Following this, the new and existing members participated in the Oath of Office, where they pledged to uphold the principles of truth, creativity, and dedication in their work. They committed to using their skills to represent the school in the best possible light, ensuring that all communications and media outputs reflect the elevated standards of the Iloilo Merchant Marine School.

A key highlight of the ceremony was the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement by the IMMS Media Team members and Mrs. Rose Cherry G. Moncerate, School President, with Mr. Robert Aguilar, Jr., Consultant to the Chairman of the Board, serving as a witness. This signing symbolized the formal agreement between the media team and the school administration, underscoring the importance of this commitment.

Austin John Magoliman, Social Media Manager, of the IMMS Media Team also delivered a heartfelt response, expressing gratitude for the trust bestowed upon the team and reaffirming their commitment to uphold the values of the institution.
The ceremony concluded with a group photo session. The newly inducted members expressed their excitement about contributing to the school’s media projects, from managing social media platforms to covering school events and creating content that resonates with both students and the wider community.

On August 12, 2024, the Iloilo Merchant Marine School (IMMS) held its first flag ceremony for Academic Year 2024-2025, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the school community. This monthly tradition, observed every first Monday, was attended by Senior High School Grades 11 and 12 students, as well as all levels of the College of Maritime Education (CME).

Significantly, this ceremony also featured the formal introduction of the faculty and staff, showcasing the dedicated team committed to guiding and supporting the students throughout the year. This introduction reinforced IMMS's dedication to delivering quality education and creating a nurturing learning environment.

The Iloilo Merchant Marine School (IMMS) hosted the highly anticipated screening for the Maritime Spectrum Media Team on August 20, 2024. The event drew a diverse group of talented students, all eager to become part of the team that shapes the visual and written narratives of the institution. Aspiring Content Writers, Photographers, Videographers, and Layout Artists showcased their skills, creativity, and passion for capturing unforgettable moments and telling compelling stories through media.

The screening process was rigorous, designed not only to assess technical proficiency but also to identify the creativity and dedication necessary to uphold the high standards of the Maritime Spectrum. Students set up their cameras, adjusted their lighting, and prepared themselves, each bringing a unique perspective to the table. As they exchanged ideas and offered constructive feedback, it became clear that collaboration was at the heart of this initiative. The IMMS Media Team is not just about honing technical skills; it’s about fostering a community of creators who produce content that informs and inspires.

The selection committee, composed of the Consultant to the Chairman of the Board, and current media team members, carefully evaluated each applicant's work, creativity, and ability to perform under pressure. The chosen members will take on the responsibility of capturing the essence of life at IMMS, from academic achievements to extracurricular activities, ensuring the IMMS story resonates with both current and prospective students.

As the day progressed, it became evident that the Media Team screenings were more than just auditions; they were a celebration of creativity, determination, and the power of storytelling. The new members now prepare to take on their roles, joining a legacy of excellence and contributing to the continued success of the IMMS Media Team. 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟐𝟏, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 || Today, we commemorate Ninoy Aquino Day, honoring the courage and sacrifice of a man who believed that '𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑭𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒐 𝒊𝒔 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒉 𝒅𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒐𝒓.'May his legacy inspire us to continue striving for justice, freedom, and democracy in our beloved nation.

This year, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. moved the special non-working holiday for Ninoy Aquino Day from August 21 (Wednesday) to August 23 (Friday). Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, by the authority of the President, signed Proclamation No. 665 on Thursday, amending Proclamation No. 368, series of 2023, which lays out the regular holidays and special non-working days for 2024.

𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲, but the issuance will provide a long weekend for workers from August 23 to August 26, a Monday. August 26 is a regular holiday for the observance of National Heroes’ Day.

𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟖, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 || The fourth day of Paglalayag 2024 marked a crucial moment for the incoming midshipmen as they were introduced to the Merit and Demerit System of Iloilo Merchant Marine School (IMMS). The session, led by the Chief Operating Officer, Jo Jan Paul Peñol, provided a comprehensive overview of the system that plays a vital role in shaping the discipline and conduct of every midshipman.

In coordination with the Office of Midshipmen Affairs and with the assistance of the Corps of Midshipmen, the orientation emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards of behavior, with the Merit System rewarding exemplary actions and the Demerit System addressing infractions. This structured approach ensures that the values of discipline, respect, and responsibility are upheld throughout their maritime training.

Following the orientation, the election of Classroom Officers took place, marking the beginning of student leadership within the new cohort. These elected officers will serve as the primary representatives of their peers, fostering a sense of community and teamwork within their respective classes.

To ensure that all midshipmen were accounted for, a mustering was conducted, further instilling the importance of order and accountability as they embark on their maritime journey at IMMS.
