The Voice of Valor
By | Elenita Cainglet

Marking November with a historic celebration,
A holiday born from the nation's admiration.
G*t Andres Bonifacio's struggles and strife,
Forever known, remember through life.

On November 30th, his legacy we claim,
The Father of the Philippine Revolution by name.
He rose against Spaniards with courage and might,
Bonifacio, a guiding star in our people's fight.

His bolo struck for justice, his voice for the oppressed,
His tan skin bore the scars of battles unaddressed.
Through blood and tears, he faced history’s cruelty,
For freedom's dream, he fought relentlessly.

Filipinos who were once silenced in their own native land,
Found strength in rebellion, with itak in hand.
The cries of the people drowned out the despair,
As Bonifacio led with an unyielding flair.

Our land gave birth to countless brilliant minds,
Who took up arms so their home would be free from bind.
For the liberation of their country is twined,
They served as the beacon of hope for future generations.

His fight for freedom sparked the nation’s passion—
Where freedom demands the courage to bind.
On this day, we honor their sacrifice so bold,
A legacy of hope, forever retold.

Taming Procrastination
By | Sachi Santos

Pending checklists and materials check! Lampshade on and study table set-up aesthetically, it is finally time to switch in academic warrior mode and start this work course. But there are still a lot of chores. Should you get those done first?

Dishes washed, floor wiped, clothes folded—all work done, except for the items on the pending list. No worries, there is still tomorrow to get things done. Putting off a week's worth of work seems worth it, but not until deadlines start to chase you down, making you question all the things you have been doing in the past week. Love the internal drama, but is it procrastination or an intentional delay?

In Seasonal Change By | Diosy De Asis

In November's quiet, golden grace, Autumn whispers memories past. Leaves fall gently, finding their place— A testament to time so fast. I walk beneath the amber sky, Reflecting on days gone by.

A dear friend, once so full of cheer, With laughter that could light the night— His absence feels so heavy here, A star now hidden from my sight. I never spoke my heart’s own song; She left—my secret love unspoken long.

A cherished cat with eyes so bright Would purr and curl upon my knee. Her gentle purrs, a pure delight, Now memories, like leaves, float free. In autumn's breath, I hear her still, Her spirit wanders, soft and chill.

November’s winds through branches call, A reminder that life’s tides must turn— That seasons change, and so must all. In autumn's lessons, we must learn To let go of what we hold dear, To embrace the unknown, conquer fear.

For every leaf that falls to ground, A promise of new life to come. In endings, new beginnings found— A silent beat of nature’s drum. Change brings growth, and with each turn, The fires of our spirit burn.

So I embrace this autumn’s kiss, The fleeting touch of time’s own hand. In change, a bittersweet bliss— A truth that I now understand. Not all we cherish is to stay, But in autumn's arms, we find our way.

Candlelight
By Mark Anthony Aguilando

Candles of memories
Shine upon this grave of souls
And whisper to those who’ve lost
Someone dear, close to their hearts.

Light up with solemn grace
As memories rapidly flow in their place.
Leading their hearts to a path once known
Grieving still for what is long gone.

Witness as they wipe their tears,
Greeting again what once was known,
Lulling their sorrow with memories near,
Holding love’s shadow as their own.

Candles of memories,
Burn in the quiet air—
Light up the path to those we’ve lost
And hold them in warmth, be our host.

Today, we observe the commemoration of the saints, who were once ordinary people that lived righteous and holy according to the teachings of Jesus. All Saint’s Day reminds us about the life of martyrs who suffered from rough life trials, but overcome those through their enduring faith. Save some time to pray and let their virtue from heaven transcends into one’s heart.

A Beacon of Wisdom
By Mark Anthony Aguilando

Black ink spills on the paper;
Every stroke, a testament to dedication.
As sweat runs down from their foreheads,
They remain unfazed by the heat.

Voices coarse, like the rough edges
Of worn chalk on the board,
Bearing the weight of countless lessons,
That persists day after day.

With eyes wide almost every day,
Exhausted, pressured, and underpaid;
Still, they shape minds despite the strain—
A proof of their tireless commitment.

Primary pillars of wisdom,
They are the forgers of the mind.
With each strike of their quill,
Minds are shaped and dreams fulfilled.

In the garden of learning,
Where seeds of gnosis bloom in light,
In each page and every word,
In their lullabies, truth are heard.

They weave knowledge
Through thought and time.
They paint the blank canvas
With fresh, new lessons of vibrant hue.

And on the boundless sea of lore,
They set sail to distant shores.
Each night, like a guiding star,
They lead us to who we truly are.

Ride of Compassion: RTUian’s Simple Act of Kindness
By | Maji Manel Medenilla

One ride in the streets of Metro Manila can show how diverse people can be. From workers running across pedestrian lanes, group discussions of students while walking, to beggars sitting on the stairs of a footbridge. This reality often leads people to overlook those who are in need as they are also struggling on their own. Despite this, who would have thought that a one bicycle ride can remind people that they still exist with one another, and being kind is a gift that does not even cost a peso.

On August 6, 2024, a video of a 17-year-old student from Rizal Technological University Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) strand went viral after a concerned citizen from the Facebook Group ‘How’s your byahe, Bes?’ posted an incident in Circumferential Road Five (C-5). There, the RTUian named Tim Harry Dranto was seen standing between a disabled person on a wheel chair and a woman who happened to aggravate the fight physically.

Tim Harry shared in an interview from The Guardian Publication that he was on his way to Taytay, Rizal to fix some personal issues regarding his family on the day of the incident. He is originally living in Barangay Highway Hills in Mandaluyong City. Going to Taytay, Tim Harry was stuck in a dilemma between choosing a way between Ortigas or ArcoVia around C-5, but later picked C-5 with the idea that he could pass through the bridge as he only uses a bike in traveling.

Moments after he entered a bridge around C5-ArcoVia, Tim Harry saw a commotion with an adult woman picking a meter length tree branch. He initially thought that the woman only wanted the disabled person to move away, but it went further to an attempt in hitting the disabled person. Tim Harry dismounted from his bike and walked toward them.

After that, he was informed by a citizen at the same incident that the problem arose after the woman threw soup to the disabled person. The act of throwing soup was a tactic to distract the disabled person from taking his money, Tim Harry added. However the disabled person got mad, and hit the woman with a customized wooden coin collector with the size of a mallet.

“I felt pity for Tatay. After what happened I just wanted them to make amends, but all she wanted was to seek revenge for what he did,” Tim Harry said as he recalled his actions in the heat of the moment. Intervening was all he wanted. Either to stop the commotion or let them discuss what had happened. Unfortunately, both options were impossible because of the women’s agitation.

After the tension calmed away, he shared that the disabled person’s clothes were covered by the soup poured on him. Tim Harry always bring an extra shirt with him everywhere he goes, so he spared one and gave it to the disabled person despite it having a sentimental value. He later proceeded with his agenda, and just discovered about the viral video of him when his neighbor messaged told him that they saw him in a Facebook Reel.

Tim also cherished the kindness of the stranger who recorded the incident. “Not only did he help Tatay, he also helped me,” he emphasized that the stranger’s kindness was why he could also help the disabled person in return. Moreover, he mentioned that the stranger suggested keeping his bicycle on his side as someone could take advantage of the incident.

When asked if he would still be willing to defend another person in need, he said yes without hesitation. “That is how people should be. Never think that you will get something in return despite your courageous act. From there, you would know what your purpose in this life,” Tim Harry concluded.

Barely making ends meet forces people to focus on themselves. On an adaptive level, it was just a fight for survival and not an act of selfishness. But in people’s way to their goal, constant worry of being obstructed by other people made kindness and care for each other overlooked. Like Tim Harry, making a stop in the middle of a journey toward a goal in exchange of helping other people to achieve their own—or to just barely survive, would not cost any peso, but it will definitely leave genuine feelings of joy.
