KBP PRESS RELEASE
February 3, 2022
The Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) announced today that five of the top candidates in the 2022 presidential election have agreed to participate in the KBP Presidential Candidates Forum on February 4, Friday, at 9:00 AM To 12:00 PM.
The KBP said it had invited all top six presidential aspirants, among them Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., whose camp sent KBP a letter declining the invitation due to prior scheduled commitments. The five who accepted were:
Mr. Leody de Guzman, Sen. Ping Lacson, Mayor Isko Moreno, Sen. Manny Pacquiao, and Vice President Leni Robredo. The KBP said it was making the announcement in order to prevent misleading information from coming out regarding the Forum.
The KBP also said it was confident that even with the five candidates the Forum can still help voters gain a better understanding of the issues in the coming election and help them make a more informed choice. It said that although the Forum may not be able to cover all the issues of the campaign due to the limited time, the Forum will be able to highlight some of the most important ones. The KBP also expressed the hope that the Forum will also help the candidates better understand the concerns of the people so that whoever wins will be better prepared in formulating policies that will address the problems of the nation in the next six years.
The KBP Presidential Candidates Forum will be the first time the top five presidential candidates in the 2022 election will appear together in a live nationwide radio and television broadcast to present their qualifications and platforms of government to the people. The event comes just four days before the start of the official campaign period for national positions on February 8. The KBP said it is hoping that the Forum will help set the tone for how the campaign is conducted up to election day.
KBP members are working together in carrying out the project as a public service. The broadcast will emanate from the studios of TV5 in Pasig and will be aired and livestreamed by all KBP members nationwide, including the following major organizing networks: TV5, Cignal, CNN Philippines, ABS-CBN, Bombo Radyo, Far East Broadcasting Company (FEBC), Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC), Radio Mindanao Network (RMN), and Radyo Pilipino.
