Philippine Team triumphs at ASMOPSS 14, brings home 12 awards from Indonesia
The Philippine Team showcased its brilliance at the 14th Asian Science and Mathematics Olympiad for Primary Schools (ASMOPSS) International Round held in Banyuwangi, Indonesia, from November 10 to 16, 2024.
Led by the Asian MathSci League, Inc. (AMSLI), the delegation brought home a total of 12 awards, including 5 individual distinctions and 2 team accolades. This impressive achievement highlights the Philippines' dedication to academic excellence in the fields of science and mathematics.
Organized by the Surya Institute and hosted by the Local Government of Banyuwangi Regency, the ASMOPSS aimed to foster a love for science and mathematics among young learners. The competition was designed to promote international collaboration and strengthen ties among countries in the Asian region, focusing on enhancing primary education in these critical subjects.
"ASMOPSS has always been one of AMSLI’s favorite competitions because of its unique format, where math wizards and science enthusiasts join forces in explorations and problem-solving activities. This distinctive approach allows students to develop not just their analytical skills but also their collaborative abilities," remarked Mrs. Rechilda Villame, President of AMSLI and Head of the Delegation, as she expressed her enthusiasm for the team's performance in this prestigious competition.
Mrs. Villame further congratulated the Philippine delegates on their outstanding achievements, emphasizing that the students' success is a testament to their hard work and passion. She extended her gratitude to the parents and respective schools for their unwavering support, which played a crucial role in the team's accomplishments.
Meanwhile, the Philippine team was expertly guided by Mr. Charles Kyle Mupas and Ms. Estelita Villegas, who served as team leaders for Mathematics and Science, respectively. Their leadership was further bolstered by the support of personnel from the Schools Division of Lipa City, including Dr. Lorna Medrano, Chief of the Curriculum Implementation Division (CID), Dr. Theresa Exconde, Education Program Supervisor for Mathematics, and Dr. Francia Silva, Education Program Supervisor for Science. Their combined expertise and encouragement played a significant role in the team's successful performance at ASMOPSS 14.
