With the expected impact of Tropical Typhoon “Pepito”, the CID announced that classes today, 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟱, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰, are to be held 𝗮𝘀𝘆𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗹𝘆 to give interns ample time to return home safely. Students are advised to stay safe and take the necessary preparations for the storm.

They were merely a bunch of Pisay scholars, and yet, each one of them had a spark deep inside of them – a fierce desire to bring honor to their school while doing what they loved the most, a sport to rival all sports, football.

𝙇𝙀𝙎𝙏 𝙒𝙀 𝙁𝙊𝙍𝙂𝙀𝙏. A past immutable, a present forged, and a future hopeful. Despite the years since Yolanda, the toll inflicted remains unchanged. With households upturned, the lives of many were irreparably altered, some even for the last time. Yet, since then, the pieces which remained were picked up to build back better than before.

Today, we light these candles for all those we lost 11 years ago, as a testament to how far we've come, and as a toast to all that lies ahead.

In the grand tapestry that is Philippine sports culture, indigenous sports make up its very core.

The Philippines, with its storied and varied culture, has its fair share of native sports that average Filipinos nowadays might miss out on the majesty of. These sports are more than just games and skills for indigenous people—they represent the very essence of human existence through the millions of years of evolution which led to our burning passion for the rush of adrenaline and activity.

With this, let us explore the indigenous groups of the Philippines and their native sports, where they weave tradition and talent together, exemplifying the creativity of the Filipinos. From the piercing pana of the Aetas to the trumpo's mesmerising cyclones—each sport tells a unique story of our indigenous peoples, but put together, reveal the shrouded yet rich culture of the Philippines.

Grief, for the longest time, I had been ashamed of you. I kept looking forward to the day I would no longer feel the ache that his absence left, but thank you for reassuring me that being sad is nothing to be embarrassed about. Missing someone so much to the point of pain is proof that I had a person worth loving in the first place. The loss does not make the love any less real; if anything, it only amplifies it.

𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦:

𝘿𝙍𝙀𝙎𝙎𝙄𝙉𝙂 𝙁𝙊𝙍 𝘿𝙄𝙑𝙀𝙍𝙎𝙄𝙏𝙔. In commemoration of United Nations (UN) Day 2024, PSHS-EVC students and teachers wore national costumes from corresponding UN member states during the afternoon of October 25, 2024.

In addition, the celebration also included a series of events led by the Social Science Unit. For Grades 7 to 9, a film-showing took place at the Auditorium. For Grades 10 to 12, a talk on “Ambisyon Natin 2040 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals” was presented by Mr. Anjofel Q. Abrillo of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Regional Office VIII at the LRC auditorium.

Following these, the event’s closing program was held at the Auditorium as well, where awards were distributed to winners of various categories, including the winners of best UN costumes per batch.

𝗗𝘂𝘁𝘆, 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿, 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆: 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗗𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗹𝗮𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗵𝘂𝗿

"I Shall Return."

Do those words sound familiar? Perhaps you’ve heard them from books, online sources, or even your Social Science classes. These were the famous words of General Douglas MacArthur, the American hero who made a promise to the Filipino people. During the Japanese invasion of the Philippines in 1942, MacArthur was forced to retreat to Australia. This promise became a beacon of hope and resistance during the dark days of the Japanese occupation.

Eighty years ago, on this same day—October 20, 1944—General MacArthur fulfilled this promise. Just hours after his troops landed, he waded ashore onto the island of Leyte, a moment that marked the turning point of the war in the Pacific. In a powerful radio broadcast, his voice echoed across the archipelago: "People of the Philippines, I have returned!" Those words, spoken with conviction, reignited hope in a nation ravaged by war.

Today, as we reflect on this event, we honor the sacrifices of our ancestors and the cooperation between Filipinos and Americans during World War II. This day is not just a remembrance but a tribute to the bravery of those who fought for freedom.

In celebration of the 80th anniversary of MacArthur’s Leyte Landing, here are some lesser-known facts about our beloved and respected General Douglas MacArthur.

𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦:
The Society for the Advancement of Research in Science (SARS) conducted its three-day Pisay Sinirangan Bootcamp, LUNTIAN, on October 12, 17, and 19, 2024.

On the first day, LUNTIAN held its opening program in the PSHS-EVC Auditorium with opening remarks from the Campus Director, Yvonne M. Esperas, followed by the presentation of the keynote speaker, Dr. Rolly G. Fuentes on environmental science. In the afternoon, Biology and Chemistry plenary talks took place simultaneously in the Auditorium and Learning Resource Center Auditorium respectively. Conservationist, Ms. Ma Thessa Ramos, led the plenary talk for biology, while soil scientist, Dr. Ian A. Navarrete, served as the plenary speaker for chemistry.

On the second day, ECOSYSTEM—interactive workshops headed by school organizations and electives—was open to students from grades 7 to 8. Alongside this, students of grades 9 and 10 competed in STEM Circuit: The Amazing Race.

On the last day, a physics plenary talk, led by environmental planner, Dr. Edgar Reyes Jr., was held in the Auditorium. This was followed by the presentations of LIKAS: Business Pitch by representatives from each section in grades 9 to 10. Finally, the closing program was held with the awarding of winners of STEM Circuit, LIKAS, and the photo competition, Frame the Future. Following this, closing remarks were given by SARS president, Maud Anne Mejias.
