Some stories of brilliance begin effortlessly, with talent shining without resistance. And then some are like hersโ€”built not on certainty, but consistency.

Even from the outside, her journey did not seem extraordinary at first glance. It was quiet, almost unassuming. Progress was made in pauses and growth was gained in silence. Yet beneath that calm surface was a constant current of effort, flowing forward no matter how slow.

Resonating within her are the words of Helen Keller: โ€œCharacter cannot be developed through ease and quiet. Only through trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.โ€ For her, these were not just words, but a lived truth. Each challenge shaping her, each struggle strengthening her.

Early in her days, she was not the student many would expect her to be. She was once content with doing just enough to pass, not caring too much about report cards. But something shifted after failing multiple times. It was not pressure from others, but a realization that she was capable of more. From then on, she chose to try, to improve, to persist.

Naturally, that decision followed her into the demanding world of Accountancy. The path was purposeful, but never easy. Lessons required repetition, understanding demanded patience, and success came only through sustained effort. Still, she stayed, persevering in spite of hesitation.

In those moments of doubt, comfort was never far from reach. Family offered unwavering support, friends stood as constants, and mentors provided guidance with quiet assurance. Together, they became her foundation, reminding her that she did not have to face everything alone.

Through it all, she carried more than just determination. She had faith in the midst of pressure, and found pauses in uncertainty. It was this balance that allowed her not only to endure, but to evolve.

Yes, her story is not about perfection. It is about persistence. And it rests in a gentle irony: Serenity Jade Chingโ€”a name that speaks of stillness, yet a journey shaped by struggle. A reverie of who she once was and who she has become. Because, after all, serenity is not just remembered, but realized.

In a ceremony marked by pride, gratitude, and the celebration of academic achievement, Saint Paul School of Professional Studies (SPSPS) held its 81st Commencement Exercises at the Leyte Convention Complex on April 24, bringing together students, faculty members, administrators, and families.

The program opened with the processional of graduates, followed by members of the administration, faculty, and the SPSPS Board of Trustees, with the entrance of the presidential mace and the colors formally signaling the start of the proceedings. To officially open the rites, the invocation, led by Senior High School (SHS) Valedictorian Isaiah Timothy O. Lacaba, and singing of the Philippine National Anthem followed.

A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the Plaque of Merit to distinguished honoree Atty. Marwin A. Baldevia, MBA, CPA, followed by his address, where

he emphasized that while hard work and sacrifice are crucial, maintaining a sense of gratitude is equally important, especially during uncertain times.

โ€œWhen life calls you to sacrifice, to be patient, and to only hopeโ€”practice gratitude. Sacrifice, hard work, and grit are all non-negotiable; but so is gratitude,โ€ he stressed.

This sentiment resonated with the top graduates, who reflected on their journeys to academic success. Jomari Jess Sacendoncillo Abellar, Summa Cum Laude from the Bachelor of Science in Real Estate Management (BSREM), spoke about the importance of humility and perseverance, especially in the face of rejection.

โ€œI experienced several rejections, those rejections humbled me and taught me valuable lessons, which I summarized using the mnemonic SPSPS,โ€ Abellar reflected. โ€œS stands for someone is always better than you; P stands for pray and have faith that can move mountains; and S stands for strategy guides hard work and determination. May we continue to strive, persevere and serve with purpose.โ€

Serenity Jade Chua Ching, also a Summa Cum Laude, from the Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA), reminded her classmates to stay grounded in the Paulinian values that have shaped them, despite the uncertainties ahead.

โ€œWhat lies ahead is uncertain, and perhaps even intimidatingโ€ฆ but wherever we may go, may we remember the Paulinian lessons and values that have shaped us here,โ€ she encouraged.

Amid the celebrations, the theme of transitioning from student life to new beginnings was evident. Magna Cum Laude graduate Lance Marco M. Villegas reflected on the journey through years of academic challenges, describing graduation as both a pause and a turning point.

โ€œAt last, we are given what weโ€™ve all been waiting forโ€”a moment to breathe. Today, it isnโ€™t just an ending; it marks the beginning of a new chapter,โ€ Villegas noted.

The ceremony brought together graduates, faculty, administrators, and families to formally recognize academic achievements, with degrees conferred and special awards presented to those who excelled in academics, leadership, extracurricular involvement, and loyalty.

The event concluded with the formal induction of graduates into the alumni community, symbolizing their transition from students to professionals. The alumni oath-taking was led by Lowe S. Taรฑa, LPT, Dean of Student Affairs, followed by the pledge of loyalty delivered by Student Loyalty Awardee Princess Jemina Animos Pontillas, CMMS. Together, these rites embodied the graduatesโ€™ commitment to uphold the enduring values of gratitude, perseverance, and service as they embark on their professional journeys.

Presiding over the celebration, Rev. Fr. Virgilio C. Manaog emphasized that true transformation begins with consistency rather than intensity. He reminded graduates that professional success is rooted in integrity in the small thingsโ€”the honesty of keeping promises and remaining the same person at home, at work, and online.

The Mass served as a meaningful spiritual send-off as graduates prepare to enter a new chapter beyond school.

SPSPS JD Graduates Celebrate Milestone at 14th Commencement Exercises

Juris Doctor (JD) graduates of Saint Paul School of Professional Studies (SPSPS) were formally conferred their degrees during the 14th Commencement Exercises held on April 18 at the Mary Ngo Auditorium.

The ceremony opened with a Baccalaureate Mass presided over by Rev. Fr. Rey John E. Gayta, whose homily emphasized faith and reassurance. This was followed by the processional of graduates, faculty, staff, administrators, and members of the Board of Trustees, marking the formal start of the rites.

In his welcome remarks, Juris Doctor (JD) program graduate and leadership awardee Russel James De Guzman, LPT, described the occasion as both an ending and a new beginning, saying, โ€œToday, we are not only celebrating the end of our law school journey, but we are also welcoming a new chapter in our lives.โ€

The program then proceeded to the hooding of candidates. Mr. Kevin James Oledan, CPA, Cum Laude, later delivered a message reflecting on his long association with SPSPS, highlighting his growth from student to teacher and now to Juris Doctor graduate. He credited the institution for fostering development and second chances, noting, โ€œWe made it, and we are now ready to move forward.โ€

He also emphasized the schoolโ€™s culture of compassion and inclusion, underscoring its role in helping students grow and succeed.

Awards and academic distinctions were then awarded to outstanding graduates. This was followed by the formal presentation of candidates for graduation by Atty. Felma Freda Lopez, Dean of the Faculty of Law, and the conferral of degrees by the School President Eunice T. Tudtud Pagatpat, MBA, officially granting the degrees.

Representing the graduating class, Cum Laude graduates Mr. Chris Espiritu and Mr. Jerwin Del Pilar delivered messages highlighting perseverance, gratitude, and resilience throughout their law school journey.

Espiritu noted that completing the degree required balancing multiple responsibilities, saying graduates were shaped by perseverance, humility, and grace.

Del Pilar echoed this, describing law school as a process of consistency and endurance, where โ€œsometimes, staying is already a victory.โ€ Both also acknowledged the guidance of professors and the support of their families.
