SM Development Corporation (SMDC) and SM Supermalls are proud to support the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) through a landmark service donation—the first of its kind in the museum’s history. Signed on January 31, the deed of donation covers the repair and maintenance of the National Museum of Natural History’s air conditioning system and marketing support to promote NMP’s mission of universal access for the next three years.

“This is just the beginning of more partnership opportunities with the National Museum,” said Mr. Joaquin L. San Agustin of SM Supermalls. Through this collaboration, we aim to help preserve our national heritage and make arts and culture more accessible to all Filipinos.

AboitizPower subsidiaries continue 'MediKalinga' in Sitio Dinginin

MARIVELES, Bataan – In a continued effort to improve the health and well-being of its host communities, AboitizPower subsidiaries GNPower Mariveles (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin (GNPD) recently conducted another successful ‘MediKalinga’ mission in Sitio Dinginin, Barangay Alas-asin, on January 28, 2025.

This initiative aligns with the company's "P.R.O.G.R.E.S.S." Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework, which prioritizes "Safeguarding Quality Health Access."

"Simula po noon hanggang ngayon, tuloy tuloy ang ating ‘MediKalinga’,” said Reputation and Stakeholder Management (RSM) Manager Joseph ‘Jeps’ Paolo Mendoza. “Sa tulong po ng mga doktor na kasama natin, mare-resetahan at mabibigyan kayo ng angkop na gamot.”

The Dinginin Health Center was bustling with activity as residents, both young and old, availed of free medical and dental consultations. Nearly 100 residents lined up to receive essential healthcare services through ‘MediKalinga’.

Dr. Sherwin Durante Pontanilla, Rural Health Physician of Mariveles, highlighted the importance of these missions, particularly for the geographically isolated residents of Sitio Dinginin. "MediKalinga is crucial because these residents live quite far." Dr. Pontanilla explained. "Even though we have a barangay health station here, it takes around 8 to 10 kilometers to reach the town proper, and transportation options are limited, often requiring residents to walk. These medical missions make a real difference in their lives."

Beyond medical consultations, the ‘MediKalinga’ initiative also prioritized dental care, offering thorough oral examinations, dental hygiene advice, and basic dental treatments. This aims to address common dental issues and prevent potential complications.

Recognizing the importance of overall well-being, ‘MediKalinga’ also included the distribution of vitamins and essential supplements to all patients to boost their immune systems and improve their general health.

The impact of ‘MediKalinga’ was evident in the gratitude expressed by residents. Edelyn Sumagdon, a mother of three, shared, "Sa tuwing may medical (mission) po dito, nagpupunta po kami... Gumagaling po kasi sila (ang mga anak ko) kapag nabibigyan sila ng tamang gamot."

‘MediKalinga’ has entered its third year, with three successful implementations in 2024 – January, July, and December. This consistent effort shows AboitizPower's commitment to transforming energy for a better world and empowering communities by enhancing their quality of life.

The ‘MediKalinga’ project in Sitio Dinginin is the pilot project of AP subsidiaries GMEC & GNPD for a series of health programs with a budget of 2.4 million pesos this 2025.

Enjoy favorites like sweet and sour pork, and glutinous rice balls—all crafted with authentic ingredients. Here are some of the Chinese dishes that are commonly found at Chinese restaurants:

DUMPLINGS
Dumplings are still on the top list. Usually associated with wealth, it has been a Chinese tradition that the more dumplings you eat during the New Year celebrations, the more money you can make.

Now, ready-made dumplings that you can conveniently steam, fry or air-fry at home is available at SM Supermarket and Chowking.

SPRING ROLLS

In the Philippines, any gathering would not be complete without spring rolls – specifically, Lumpiang Shanghai. At any celebration, Filipinos love to have these on their tables because of its simple recipe. For extra meaty goodness, SM City Olongapo Downtown Chowking’s Shanghai is a must try. This dish is a carrier of prosperity and is also associated with wealth because of its resemblance with gold bars.

NOODLES

The so-called longevity noodles are served not only on Chinese New Year celebrations but even on
birthdays. These noodles are particularly auspicious as it represents health and long life.

Classic Savory offers aromatic noodle dishes like the Long-Life Pancit Canton in bilao. Experience with Classic Savory the perfect balance of sweet, savory, and spicy flavors that define Chinese cuisine without breaking the bank.

RICE CAKES

Nian gao better known as Tikoy in the Philippines is one of the most popular dishes during Chinese
New Year. Tikoy brings prosperity to those who give and receive it, so you can expect to be gifted a few boxes of this rice cake throughout the season.

Tikoy comes in different flavors and may come in different shapes. Available at SM Supermarket and
Polland, level 2 of SM City Olongapo Central

FRIED RICE
A dish made from fried cooked rice and other ingredients, often including eggs, vegetables, seafood, or meat with toppings such as pork or beef siomai, or fried wonton. Fried rice is one of the most common Chinese foods.

SWEET AND SOUR PORK
Sweet and sour pork has a bright orange-red color, and a delicious sweet and sour taste. This can also be substituted with fish. In Chinese cuisine, food is associated with health, luck, and prosperity.

Dine at SM City Olongapo Central and SM City Olongapo Downtown as we celebrate new beginnings, good fortune, and vibrant traditions.

Project Saysay: Uplifting Communities One Birthday at a Time

MARIVELES, Bataan — Launched in January 2023, Project Saysay, an AboitizPower (AP) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, empowers employees of AP subsidiaries GNPower Mariveles (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin (GNPD) to celebrate their birthdays by giving back to their host communities.

This initiative, aptly named "Saysay" (meaning "value"), encourages employees to choose a community or group to support, fostering a culture of volunteerism and creating meaningful connections. Led by the company’s Reputation and Stakeholder Management (RSM) team, Project Saysay has become a highlight for employees who find joy in bringing smiles to their chosen beneficiaries.

In 2024, the initiative reached over 2,200 beneficiaries through the efforts of 182 volunteer employees. This year, January birthday celebrants brought joy to 17 children with Hydrocephalus and Chiari Malformation in Limay, Bataan by providing them with essential items like diapers, milk, and medications.

“Every year, as we celebrate our birthdays, we’ve often pondered our significance and purpose. It was from this reflection that Project Saysay was born,” said RSM Manager Joseph “Jeps” Paolo Mendoza. “So instead of traditional birthday celebrations, we chose to break free from the mold and give back to the community.”

A Year of Giving Back

A key focus of Project Saysay is to improve the well-being of vulnerable members of the community. In February 2024, volunteers supported dialysis patients at the Bataan Kidney and Dialysis Center, donating 60 blood bags. In March, the celebrators opted to support cancer patients from the Bataan Cancer Society and Support Group, providing livelihood training on making dishwashing liquid and assisting them in selling their products to the public.

In May, birthday champions led an art and connection-building activity with mothers and their children with hearing disabilities. Meanwhile, in April, the team visited 33 elderly people at the Bahay Puso Apostolate Foundation to give them much-needed attention and support.

October celebrants held a special trick-or-treat activity at the Mariveles District Hospital (MDH), distributing 100 hygiene kits and snacks to patients and their attending families. They also gave pamper vouchers to 40 nurses, giving them a day of relaxation.

Environmental Conservation

GMEC and GNPD employees chose beneficiaries who prioritized environmental sustainability. In January 2024, they supported the SAGIP Pawikan Sitio Fuerte Association in releasing 500 endangered baby sea turtles back into the ocean. Furthermore, in June, the employee celebrants helped the local fisherfolks of Barangay Lucanin with training in fishing net making, boat operation, and other livelihood skills.

In August and September, celebrants reached out to the fisherfolk and local fish vendors of Barangays Cabcaben and Sitio Dinginin, providing oil spill prevention and response training, as well as distributing grocery items to the victims of the Limay oil spills.

Education and Development

Project Saysay also focuses on education and skills development to uplift communities. In March last year, volunteers donated futsal accessories, supplies, and team uniform kits to the Cabcaben Futsal Team, composed of students from the Mariveles National High School-Cabcaben.

In April, employees supported children with autism through the “Strokes of Progress” program, providing art therapy and sensory toys.

In July, celebrators focused on 60 students from BASECO elementary school, giving them free haircuts, story-telling sessions, career guidance, and safety tips for the rainy season. Volunteers donated bags, tumblers, and vitamins.

In November, 40 delegates of the Mariveles Federation of Persons with Disabilities received digital and social media marketing training, which enhanced the online presence of the beneficiaries’ t-shirt and mug printing business.

Inspiring Positive Change

The influence of Project Saysay extends beyond the GMEC and GNPD. Hailed by its success, the Provincial Government of Bataan adapted it for the province; they initiated their version of Project Saysay among government employees. This adaptation proves that the program has a profound impact and could ignite collective action on a broader scale. Whether it's supporting fisherfolks, uplifting persons with disabilities, or brightening the lives of children, the initiative has turned birthdays into opportunities for meaningful impact.

Project Saysay remains an example of how corporate advocacies can inspire collective action and create stronger links between employees and the communities they help. As this program moves forward, one thing is constant: making every day count, one birthday at a time.

4 EASY TIPS TO BOOST HOLISTIC WELLNESS THIS 2025 AT SM

The new year is a great time for a health reset. You can arrange wellness goals throughout the year of course, but we can all agree that the new year gives that extra dose of motivation. When we set the bar too high, though, we inevitably blow it, lose traction, and go back to the status quo—so the workaround is to start small and skip the extremes.

To set you up for success, we’ve rounded up goals that are doable and feasible in the long run. These are simple things that you can easily incorporate into your daily routine and activities that can make significant headway on your journey to a happier and healthier you—and they’re all conveniently available for your picking via the SM Malls Online app.

1 Move more
Did you know that we sit more than we should? We can attribute this to a sedentary lifestyle or simply being inactive, and it can have negative effects on our overall health, with studies linking it to an increased risk of mortality. This year, aim to move more and exercise even for just a few minutes. Go for a 15-minute walk or get up and move for five minutes every hour. Track your progress with the Apple Watch Series 10, Series 10 is the perfect fitness partner. It motivates you to stay active, tracks all your workouts, and gives you the metrics you need.
Available at POWERMAC, SM City Olongapo Central.

2 Carve time for creative play
Engage in play so your mind has a chance to relax and unwind. And here’s a secret: Adults need playtime just as much as kids do—maybe more. It’s allowing yourself to explore, express, and step into a fun space that feeds your spirit. Plus, play is one of the best and simplest ways to reduce stress, improve cognitive function, and encourage a sense of fulfillment. Head on over to iSports at SM City Olongapo Central and take advantage of their new game challenges and prizes.
The hub can be a great place to step back from the grind, so you can just let loose and have time for loads of fun—competitive or otherwise
3 Eat your protein and leafy greens
Nourish your body with superfoods—high in nutrients and low in calories, what’s not to love? A superfood starter is a serving of Homemade Caesar Salad and Baked Prawns from CONTI’s.
It’s got everything your body needs to fire up on all cylinders: fresh and crisp romaine lettuce and green ice lettuce with chicken strips, bacon bits, and parmesan cheese, served with dressing and croutons on the side.

4 Try nutrient-packed rice bowls
Healthy bowls combine the flavor of protein with the added benefit of fiber, which can help you feel full and satisfied without the sluggishness that can accompany binging on a big, high-calorie meal. BOTEJYU offers delicious flavor combinations for an eat-good, feel-good vibe. They recommend Chicken Butter Rice Bowl, an authentic Japanese goodness with Salmon Nigiri Sushi – fresh, simple, and handcrafted by their Samurai Iron Chef Shuichiro Kikuchi for a superb-quality seafood treat. Another delicious rice bowl is Ginger Pork Rice Bowl, made with Tender Pork marinated in ginger and soy sauce paired with fresh greens and tomatoes for a deliciously wholesome meal.
Get this complete and affordable meal at our 90+ locations of Conti’s nationwide!
