On September 26, 2024, Romblon State University conducted the opening ceremony of Philippine Creative Industries Month (PCIM) with the theme: "We Are a Creative Nation" at the University-Learning Resource Center.

Dr. Emelyn F. Montoya, Vice President for Academic Affairs, delivered an opening remark, giving her warm greeting and gratitude to all the guests and visitors.

The University President, Dr. Merian P. Catajay-Mani, represented by the Vice President for Legal and Student Affairs and Services, Atty. Glenn Niño Sartillo, conveyed a message, expressing his support to the creative event. In addition, Atty. Sartillo recognized the Office of Media and Public Affairs (OMPA) for its accomplished projects, The MARBLE Media and Media Camp, contributing to the creative industries and innovation. He then, emphasized that every invidual has its own creativity.

Mr. Orville F. Mallorca, Provincial Director of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Romblon, the resource person, shared valuable insights and contributions, highlighting the significance of creativity and innovation in the economic and cultural development of Romblon.

"We are the future of our creative economy", said Mr. Mallorca. His message reflected the creative designs and crafts present at the event.

Meanwhile, the opening salvo, jump start fitness and creative fashion show held at the university quadrangle, was performed by the talented and creative students of Romblon State Univeristy.

The program concluded with a photo opportunity with top officials and guest speaker and a Ribbon Cutting (phase 1) occured at the RSU-LRC, and the ceremonial ribbon cutting (phase 2) at the RSU-Quadrangle, signifying the official celebration of PCIM.

The University Dean of Instruction, Dr. Mark G. Calimbo, delivered a closing remark, expressing his gratitude to all who supported and participated in this innovative event.

Various activities, exhibits, and booth displays were present including those from Santa Maria Campus, San Agustin Campus, Sta. Fe Campus, and REDI await the students, faculty, employees, and visitors at the RSU-Main Campus.

This initiative stresses the collective efforts of the Office of Media and Public Affairs, led by Ms. Charevel Ferranco, College of Computing, Multimedia Arts and Digital Innovation, headed by Dr. Catherine Aguila, and the Office of the University Dean of Instruction, spearheaded by Dr. Mark G. Calimbo, with the help of MARBLE Media Student Organization, The Harrow, and Supreme Student Council (SSC), CASSO, CBASO, CCMADISO, CETSO, CEDSO and LSHS-The Harrow, and other student organizations in the main-campus.

In partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) headed by Mr. Orville Mallorca, this significant event will continue to foster creativity to all RSUvians!

Dr. Merian P. Catajay-Mani, with the constant support of top officials, congratulates the team behind this successful and creative PCIM 2024 celebration.

Romblon State University bags awards at the 15th National Kampo Kalikasan 2024 with the theme: "Building Peaceful and Sustainable Communities: Nurturing Life Beyond the Pandemic" at the Cebu Technological University, Danao City, on September 20-23, 2024.

This SAVE ME Movement's Kampo Kalikasan 2024 is a four-day camp bringing together environmental advocates and stakeholders to collaborate on issues of environmental degradation, climate change, and disaster risk management.

The participants of the 15th National Kampo Kalikasan were several Higher Education Institution officials and student leaders, Local Government Unit Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Climate Change Adaptation Focal Persons, Sangguniang Kabataan, Non-Governmental Organization and People's Organization.

RSU delegates dominated among the participants, obtaining awards and places in different competitions.

The RSU delegates, John Victor P. dela Torre, first place in Digital Photography, Precious Laika Dela Vega, first place in Singing Contest and Extemporaneous Speaking, Clark Lorenz Maisa, first place in AVP Competition, moreover, Annesty dela Torre, second place in Editorial Cartooning and Third place in Poster Making Contest, Emmanuel M. Fajutagana, second place in Poem Writing (Filipino), Yumieh Doren, second place in Essay Writing (English), Jhun Vincent C. Maraño, second place in Poster Making Competition, furthermore, Cristal Jade Santiago, third place in Feature Writing (Filipino) and Micho M. Unabia, third place in Essay Writing (Filipino), Pauline Francisco, third place in Poem Writing (English) contest, was lauded for their excellent performances and skills, showcased in the event.

Meanwhile, Engr. Kenreid Nuel dela Vega, Assistant Director of the Office of Student and Development Services, and Mr. Turner Evon de Torres, RSU-Federation Supreme Student Council Adviser, were also present at the event, expressing their support and expertise to all the RSU delegates.

The goal of Kampo Kalikasan was to raise awareness, foster collaboration, and empower participants to address environmental challenges, promote sustainability, and build resilient, peaceful communities prepared for disasters.

Competence, skills, and teamwork showed in the event were the weapons, signifying that an RSUvian is competent in co-curricular and academic excellence across the country.

The administration, under Dr. Merian P. Catajay-Mani, wishes to express its congratulations to all the participants, the committee, and all who extended support for this milestone.

SEOUL, South Korea - RSU President, Dr. Merian P. Catajay-Mani, shared her insights yesterday as a discussant during the presentation of WURI 2024 winning cases under the Industrial Application category.

President Mani shared her insights on the following cases:

1. “Sea-condition Emergency Alert and Warning Apparatus for Vessel Safety (SEAWAVeS) Mobile Application”, a project of the Aklan State University presented by Vice President Julie Ann A. Salido

2. "CagSU Electromobility - Greening the Transport Industry", a project of the Cagayan State University presented by OIC President Arthur G. Ibanez

3. “YupiRa: Creating a Manually-Operated Waste Compression System In Practicing Plastic Waste Disposal”, a project of the Our Lady of Fatima University presented by President Caroline Marian S. Enriquez

President Mani commended the innovative projects presented by the category winners, highlighting the role of sustainable technologies in addressing pressing societal and environmental challenges. She emphasized how these initiatives exemplify the essence of industrial application by combining academic research with real-world impact.

Ms. Charevel F. Ferranco, Director for Media and Public Affairs at RSU, successfully presents the project, "RSU Media Camp 1.0:An Action for Digitization, Strengthening the RSU Brand" during the Symbol and Promotion session of the WURI Global Conference 2024 held at the Seoul School for Integrated Sciences and Technologies in Seoul, South Korea.

Ms. Ferranco's presentation highlighted the various accomplishments of the Office of Media and Public Affairs (OMPA), such as the unveiling of the enhanced university seal, the launching of the university visual identity guidebook, and the showcase and promotion of RSU merchandise.

OMPA, alongside REDI, is the proponent of one of RSU's winning entries under the WURI 2024 Symbol and Promotion category, ranking 33rd out of 100 worldwide.

SEOUL, South Korea - Dr. Garry Vanz V. Blancia, Director for Research, successfully presented Project “RAISE” during the first day of the WURI Global Conference 2024 held at the Seoul School of Integrated Sciences and Technologies (aSSIST University) in Seoul, South Korea.

Initiated by RSU’s REDI unit, Project RAISE, or “Responsible AI for Sustainable Education”, is among RSU’s winning cases for WURI 2024. It streamlines the responsible use of AI in the trifocals in the university systems, particularly in teaching and learning, research, and administration. Because of its responsiveness to the demands brought upon by the disruptive nature of AI, it ranked 29th out of 100 at the WURI 2024 Generative AI Application category.

The WURI Global Conference 2024, which goes from September 24-26, aims to create an avenue for university Presidents, administrators, and faculty members with successful and high-ranking cases to present, share, and learn from each other's innovations.

Seoul, South Korea, September 24-25, 2024– The prestigious World University Ranking for Innovation (WURI) Global Conference took place at aSSIST University, bringing together leading academic minds and innovators from higher education institutions around the globe.

Among the distinguished participants were key representatives from Romblon State University (RSU), including President Merian P. Catajay-Mani, Dr. Gianinna Elaine M. Labicane, Director of the International Relations Office (IRO), Dr. Garry Vanz V. Blancia, Director of Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI), Jayson Reeves C. Mani, Head of University Rankings under IRO, and Ms. Charrevel F. Ferranco, Director of the Office of Media and Public Affairs (OMPA).

RSU delegates listened to keynote speeches from the highest universities as they shared the best practices and submissions in the World University Ranking for Innovation 2024.

The delegation also participated in roundtable discussions in which universities established three networks, namely World University Networks for Innovation (WUNI) for Presidents, WUNI for Leaders, and WUNI for Experts.

On the first day, Dr. Blancia presented Project RAISE: Responsible AI for Sustainable Education (Category A7), the innovative program of RSU which ranked 29th in Generative AI.

Pres. Mani was the discussant during Dr. Blancia's presentation.

Ms. Ferranco will present MEDIA CAMP: Romblon State University Training for Advisers and Media Enthusiasts (Category B4) which ranked 33rd in Symbol and Promotion in the international rankings tomorrow, September 25, 2024.

Because of these projects, RSU secured impressive rankings nationally and internationally.

RSU ranked 12th in Industrial Application, 8th in Generative AI, and 7th in Symbol and Promotion.

In international standing, RSU placed 24th in Industrial Application, 29th in Generative AI, and 33rd in Symbol and Promotion.

RSU proudly was also announced 261st among the top 300 universities worldwide, reflecting their dedication to excellence and innovation in higher education.

The WURI Global Conference continues to be an effective platform for universities striving to make impactful contributions to society through innovative practices and collaborative efforts.

𝗥𝗢𝗠𝗕𝗟𝗢𝗡 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗬 organized a gift-giving program for 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝘁 𝗢𝗱𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝗝𝗮𝗶𝗹.

𝗠𝘀. 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝗝𝗼𝘆 𝗔. 𝗙𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮, 𝗖𝗔𝗦 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘆, hosted the program. She commenced the program with a solemn invocation, followed by the singing of the National Anthem, with all participants standing proudly, paying respect to the nation.

𝗠𝘀. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗔. 𝗙𝗮𝗱𝗿𝗶, 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀, warmly welcomed everyone to the Gift-Giving Program, 𝙝𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙨𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙜𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮, especially during challenging times.
A message was delivered by 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝘆. 𝗚𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗻 𝗡𝗶ñ𝗼 𝗠. 𝗦𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗼, 𝗩𝗣 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗳𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀, elaborated on the goals of the event and how it aligns with the institution’s mission to help uplift the community. He 𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙝𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙯𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙜𝙞𝙛𝙩-𝙜𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙣 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙗𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙𝙨, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚, 𝙝𝙤𝙥𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 with those in need. This was met with applause from the attendees, who were eager to participate in the activity.

𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗣. 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗷𝗮𝘆-𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗶, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁, delivered an inspirational message. The President shared a heartwarming story about personal experiences with generosity and the positive impact of kindness on people's lives. The message 𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙜𝙚 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙖𝙙𝙤𝙥𝙩 𝙖 𝙜𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙨𝙚𝙩 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙙𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙙𝙖𝙮𝙨, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙞𝙣 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙙𝙖𝙮 𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚. It concluded with a challenge to the audience to continue being beacons of hope in their respective communities.

An intermission was performed by Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL), who presented a special number as part of the program. Their performance symbolized hope, resilience, and the belief that even in challenging situations, people can find ways to express joy and creativity. This intermission not only entertained but also served as a reminder of the human spirit's ability to persevere and connect with others through meaningful moments.

Following the intermission number, Mr. Kreisler I. Fontamillas introduced the resource person for the day’s health and wellness discussion. The resource person, 𝗗𝗿. 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼 𝗥. 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗲 𝗝𝗿., 𝗥𝗦𝗨 -𝗔𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗻𝗶 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁, also an expert in the field, was warmly welcomed by the audience. He delivered an engaging presentation on 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗟𝗧𝗛 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗪𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗦, 𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙝𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙯𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙢𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖 𝙗𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙙 𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙮𝙡𝙚, especially in times of difficulty. Topics such as proper nutrition, mental health care, and regular physical activity were discussed, along with practical tips on how to stay healthy despite limited resources. The audience responded positively, with many expressing their appreciation for the informative and relatable insights shared.

𝗗𝗿. 𝗘𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗲 𝗚. 𝗙𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗼, 𝗩𝗣 𝗥𝗘𝗗𝗜, gave the closing remarks and thanked everyone for their participation, especially the volunteers and sponsors who made the event possible. The organizer 𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙝𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙯𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙪𝙚𝙙 𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙞𝙣 𝙛𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙨 and encouraged the attendees to remain hopeful and resilient. The event ended on a high note, with a collective sense of accomplishment and fulfillment shared among all participants.

The 𝗛𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 of the program was the 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀. RSU Top officials, RSU staff, and CAS faculty assisted in handing out the packages, which contained essential goods such as food, hygiene products, and health-related items. The distribution process was smooth and well-organized, ensuring that each beneficiary received their gifts promptly and orderly. The smiles on the faces of the recipients reflected the joy and gratitude they felt for the kindness extended to them.

The 𝗚𝗜𝗙𝗧-𝗚𝗜𝗩𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗠 was a 𝙨𝙪𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨, bringing together people from different walks of life to share in the spirit of giving. Through meaningful discussions, inspirational messages, and acts of generosity, the event not only met its objectives but also left a lasting impact on both the givers and the recipients.

Romblon State University (RSU) joins the nation in the celebration of Development Policy Research Month (DPRM) this month of September with the theme "Securing a Future for All by Growing a Resilient Middle Class".

The DPRM aims to promote and draw nationwide awareness of the importance of policy research in the formulation of national development plans, programs, and policies.

Through the DPRM, various activities will highlight the opportunities and challenges in expanding the Filipino middle class in the face of emerging global megatrends that can accelerate growth or further widen disparities.

This will also focus on the multi-pronged strategies needed to provide opportunities for expansion and new wealth creation, transforming the middle class into a more resilient driver of social good.

𝗜𝗻 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝘀: 𝗥𝗦𝗨 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝘀 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗺 “𝗦𝗸𝗲𝘆𝘁𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗱”

September 16, 2024– Romblon State University (RSU), through the Office of Media and Public Affairs (OMPA) and the Office of Admissions and Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES), proudly hosted a special screening of "Skeytbord," the official winning entry at the MIMAROPALIKULA film competition during the TES Congress 2024.

In her opening remarks, RSU President Merian C. Mani expressed immense pride in the university's achievement.

“This remarkable accomplishment would not have been possible without the dedication and creativity of our teams, OMPA, TES, Marble, and The Harrow," she said, extending heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in bringing "Skeytbord" to life.

The film's narrative centers around April Minano, an BS Elementary Education graduate of RSU, Batch 2024.

President Mani highlighted the broader message of the film, emphasizing that many Filipinos rise above their circumstances through grit, passion, and determination.

The proceeds from the ticket sales would be given to Mr. Minano as financial assistance, supporting him in his review sessions in preparation for his licensure examination for professional teachers.

Discussions ensued after the film, with overwhelming reception and appreciation from the top officials, alumni, and guests who were present at the event.

The event concluded with a heartfelt message from Mr. Minano, encouraging everyone to become resilient in the face of trials and strive to reach their aspirations in life, just as he did.

The second day of the screening is intended for block viewing sessions for different colleges at the Main Campus.

The university wishes to express its immense gratitude to the alumni who supported the pilot screening of “Skeytbord” and sponsored tickets for the students.
