BY FAITH SERIES OF DEVOTION BREAK
GOD'S MESSAGE FOR YOU:
When I was young, I used to watch a movie through television, where we had a cable connection. This movie is from Disney and is entitled "Meet the Robinsons," about a protagonist named Lewis who was in the future with his friend Wilbur, his future son. Lewis dropped a question while fixing the time machine where he said, "What if I can't fix this? What are we going to do?" Wilbur answered, "Keep moving forward." Lewis got upset because he always said, "Keep moving forward," although he didn't understand, and so Wilbur encouraged him and shared an example of his father's inventions. It shows that he moved forward; he may have made lots of mistakes from his work through invention, but he never gave up.
Actually, the quote "Keep moving forward" originated with the late Walt Disney; it appeared at the end of the movie. Here's what Walt Disney said:
"Around here, however, we don't look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious...and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths."
Now, in our main text, the apostle states this, as he never counts himself from it because he kept moving by faith. Though he may have had different afflictions in his life as a missionary, he knows that his days are numbered, but he remains faithful because he never lets his past go down.
There are three things to keep moving forward:
1. FORWARD THROUGH LEAVING THE PAST.
In the main text it said, "forgetting those which are behind..." The apostle had a past where he murdered the Christians as a persecutor, like what happened to Stephen. But when he found Jesus on the road to Damascus, he faced him and got blind. He brought Ananias to heal Paul from his blindness and pray. Then, Paul forgets those whom he left behind and takes his calling. He was never allowed to move by the future dangers, and he knew that his days were numbered. He experienced shipwreck, imprisonment, and persecution, but he kept forward by faith. When we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, we must forget our old things, for we are a new creature (2 Cor 5:17). When we have Christ, turn back your sin. Leave the past because you cannot move forward while looking backward. You may have past experience: past pains, past afflictions, missed opportunities, and past failures, but we must refuse to let yesterday define tomorrow.
2. FORWARD THROUGH REACHING THE GOAL.
In the main text, it said, "and reaching forth unto those things which are before"; we are reaching our goal through faith. What goal were we expecting? Our goal is to reach souls around the world and to fulfill for God's glory. It takes prayer, obeying God's command and His word, and walking and following Christ. Just like what the apostle said in Acts 20:24, "None of these things move me," because he has a course to finish with joy. All of us have different courses; this course is to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. All of us have experienced mistakes, but don't let your mistakes pull you away from the Lord. Apostle Paul remains strong in the Lord, not his own, as he said in Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ, which strengtheneth me."
3. FORWARD THROUGH PRESSING ON.
You are not alone with your struggles, but the Bible reminds us to remain faithful and keep on. As it said in verse 14:
Philippians 3:14 KJVS
I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Choose to press on despite the obstacles and challenges. Philippians 3:14 is not about earthly recognition like titles or positions, even in your ministry that you had, but it is about spiritual perseverance. The context "high calling" refers to Christ Himself, not about the church role. It is about your faithfulness and obedience to the Lord. The apostle didn't say "I drift," but he said "I press," which means he keeps forward by faith. Our goal is Christ, because He is worth every step.
I believe many people are afraid of mistakes, but as believers, it is a test of faith to us. Faith requires obedience, but partial obedience is still disobedience. The world offers earthly rewards, but Christ offers eternal prizes. We are expecting His coming, and when He comes again, He will say, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." When we fall down, keep moving forward; don't go backward! Learn from your mistakes and embrace the new opportunity. Apostle Paul never allowed himself to go backward; he fought the good fight of faith. Press on! For we kept the faith.
THE GRACE OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST BE WITH YOU ALL. AMEN
(Romans 16:24).
DEVOTION BREAK | FORWARD BY FAITH
Philippians 3:13-14 KJVS
Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
[14] I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
