Eastern Samar State University - Maydolong held a Mental Health Seminar yesterday, January 10, 2025, focusing on the theme "Thriving in Uncertainty: Nurturing Social-Emotional Learning and Growth Mindset in Students" at the Student Development Center (SDC). The seminar aimed to provide students with valuable insights and tools to navigate the challenges of mental health and personal growth.

The program began with registration, followed by the singing of the National Anthem and a prayer. An energizer led by volunteers from the YEL organization set a positive tone for the event. Dr. Zosima Ana A. Fabula, dean of the College of Education, delivered the opening remarks. Mrs. Venus M. Seduco, Career and Job Placement head, then presented the rationale for the seminar. Hon. Gershon G. Escoto, Jr., ESSU-Federated Faculty Association President, delivered an inspirational message in behalf of Dr. Jerald P. Torillo, Campus Administrator. Then, selected students performed an intermission number that entertained the audience. Afterwards, Mrs. Liezl A. Caranzo, Internship Advisor for the Bachelor of Culture and Arts Education program, introduced the keynote speaker.

Dr. Maria Mercedes Arzadon, an Associate Professor from the College of Education at the University of the Philippines, Diliman QC, delivered a powerful presentation on "Thriving in Uncertainty: Nurturing Social-Emotional Learning and Growth Mindset in Students." Dr. Arzadon, a mental health advocate, shared her expertise on teaching students about mental well-being. She discussed responsible decision-making, the difference between fixed and growth mindsets, self-management, self-care, and self-awareness. Dr. Arzadon's insights resonated deeply with the students, particularly those preparing for their practice teaching experience.

The final part of the program involved students sharing their takeaways from Dr. Arzadon's talk. Participants included fourth-year students, the Dean of COEd, the Program Heads of COEd, and the head of CJPO. The program concluded with closing remarks by Professor Luzlyn A. Cafe, the BECEd/BEEd Program Head.

Despite the heavy rains, the 2024 March and September Licensed Professional Teachers (LPTs), along with the faculty and staff of the College of Education and fourth-year COEd student interns kicked off the activity with a motorcade from Maydolong poblacion to the ESSU-Maydolong Student Development Center (SDC) for the Testimonial Luncheon in honor of the 2024 LET Passers yesterday, January 9, 2025.

A momentous celebration of academic excellence filled the SDC as the newly licensed professional teachers, radiating pride and glory, entered the hall. The program formally began with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, followed by an invocation both led by the ESSU-Maydolong Voice Ensemble. Following this, Dr. Jerald P. Torillo, the Campus Administrator, imparted a warm and meaningful welcome message, expressing his pride and joy for the new professional teachers. Afterward, Dr. Pasel R. Deratas, head of the Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd) program, outlined the essence of the ceremony by stating the rationale. Then, a powerful rendition of Aegis songs were performed by selected BPEd students.

The heart of the ceremony unfolded as the newly licensed professional teachers shared their candid memories and experiences during their journey to achieving their most coveted licenses. Their stories included financial struggles, faith in God, self-doubt, pressure, and the importance of a strong knowledge base. Each testimonial message was a testament to the unwavering dedication and relentless pursuit of excellence that propelled them to overcome countless obstacles thereby emerging successfully.

After which, the ESSU-Maydolong Brass Band showcased an entertaining performance, making the atmosphere even more celebratory. The giving of certificates for the March and September 2024 LET Passers followed. Basking in their well-deserved moment of glory, pride and happiness were evident on their faces as they received their certificates. Following this, the audience was serenaded by selected Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education (BTLEd) students in their intermission number.

The dean of the Student Services and Alumni Affairs (SSAA), Mr. Joseph G. Pombo, formally concluded the ceremony with his closing remarks, highlighting his congratulations to the newly licensed professional teachers. Afterward, a closing intermission number was performed by selected Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (BECEd) students.

This ceremony signified the triumph of the newly licensed professional teachers in overcoming all the challenges they faced along their journey to successfully achieving their licensed profession. They serve as an inspiration to the senior students who will also embark in their LET journey one year from now.

ESSU-Maydolong Supreme Student Council (SSC) recently spearheaded the First Semester Student Organizations Evaluation and General Assembly, bringing together students and leaders from various organizations on January 8, 2024, at the Student Development Center (SDC), Maydolong Campus.

The program kicked off with the singing of the National Anthem and an opening prayer. Gia Amor Borja, SSC Treasurer, then energized the crowd with a fun warm-up session. Mr. Jayson Torillo, Head of the Student Organizations and Activities (SOA), warmly welcomed everyone with his opening remarks in which he emphasized the importance of participation in every organization's events. Afterwards, Ms. Ronalyn Mortel, SSC Secretary, shared the event's rationale. Adding a touch of entertainment, Kaye Elean Gunda, SSC Senator, delivered an intermission number.

The heart of the program was the presentation of Accomplishments and Financial Reports from the various accredited student organizations. Leaders from SSC, HOSTS, ABTIK, CAS, TLEO, YAC, YEL, PANAN-AW, and CCJE proudly shared their achievements and financial summaries for the first semester. Their presentations demonstrated the hard work and dedication behind their initiatives while promoting transparency and accountability.

Campus Administrator, Dr. Jerald P. Torillo, then took the stage and shared his future projects for the students and the campus. He also led an open forum, answering questions and addressing concerns raised by students. His approachable and inspiring talk left students optimistic about the future. Finally, the event concluded with a closing message from SSC vice president, Charlene Romares.

The general assembly served as a testament to the active involvement of student organizations and their commitment to fostering a vibrant campus life. It also reinforced the importance of transparency and communication in achieving shared goals.

The Student Development Center was filled with laughter and surprises on December 20, 2024, as the faculty and staff of ESSU-Maydolong celebrated their Christmas party with the theme "Paskong Pinoy."

The event energized everyone with raffle draw and intermission numbers performed by the faculty and staff. Present at the event were the school's retirees, including the recently retired Campus Administrator, Dr. Vickie Myril Yadao. This year-end party was also made possible with the help of the ever-dynamic and generous campus administrator, Dr. Jerald P. Torillo.

It was a party that celebrated love, tradition, and togetherness among all ESSU-Maydolong faculty and staff. A fitting way to wrap up the year's hustle and bustle, making it more memorable and joyful.

To create a more responsive environment in terms of mental health crises, the Eastern Samar State University - Maydolong conducted the 2024 Mental Health Literacy and Psychosocial Support that was participated in by the faculty and staff this morning, December 20, 2024 at the Student Development Center.

The said program formally started with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, followed by an invocation played by the Bachelor of Culture and Arts (BCAEd) program head and staff. Following this was the warm welcome message delivered by Prof. Apolinario John A. Bocar, Head of the Gender and Development (GAD). Moreover, to clearly understand the essence of the said event, Ms. Jo-Ann C. Bobila, coordinator of GAD of the Bachelor of Science in Criminology (BSCrim) program stated the rationale of the event. Furthermore, Mrs. Venus M. Seduco, Dean of Student Services and Alumni Affairs (SSAA), presented the high-caliber resource speaker, Ms. Maria Amelia A. Corado, psychologist and psychometrician.

Ms. Corado emphasized the importance of healthy mental health, particularly in building a high-quality teacher education. She also discussed the various mental health "pollutions" that exist and how to overcome them as teachers. She also addressed the various societal elements that can influence the quality of education for both students and the teachers. The event formally concluded with a closing remark delivered by Ms. Maria Elenita Ambal, In-charge of Guidance and Counselling.

Indeed this event catered to create a culture in ESSU-Maydolong that emphasize the importance of care, empathy, and resilience. This is just a stepping stone to a more healthy and caring institution specially in terms of mental health.

The Supreme Student Council (SSC) hosted a lively campus-wide Christmas party yesterday, December 13, 2024, aptly titled, "KaritSHOWhan" at the Student Development Center (SDC).

The program kicked off with the Philippine National Anthem, followed by a prayer led by the ESSUM voice ensemble. Mrs. Venus M. Seduco, Dean of Student Services and Alumni Affairs (SSAA), delivered inspiring opening remarks. Next, SSC President Almera S. Gade explained the event's purpose, emphasizing community spirit. Additionally, BCAEd student Louis Ato performed an upbeat Christmas song. Mrs. Riza Loste, OIC, then shared a short message in behalf of campus administrator Dr. Jerald P. Torillo.

Following the opening portion, SSC officers facilitated interactive games that engaged the students. Moreover, the โ€œPasasalamatโ€ gift-giving initiative supported two deserving students from each program, helping to spread holiday cheer. Furthermore, students participated in exciting raffles with numerous prizes.

Afterwhich, students enjoyed lunch in their respective classrooms, fostering a sense of camaraderie.

The afternoon brought continued festivities with the Kantarit and Christmasayaw competitions. Almera S. Gade introduced the esteemed panel of judges, and the competition began with Kantarit performance by BCAEd students, followed by Christmasayaw performance. Guest performer Lyca Bejar added excitement to the competitions, which also featured talents for competition from other departments, including BSHM, BPEd, and BSCrim. The Ligayaw and Sining Kapawa Dance Troupe captivated the audience with their dance performances, leading up to the highlight of the eventโ€”a Taylor Swift impersonation concert by Mr. Lester John Epres, known as "Taylor Sweep."

After the performances, organizers distributed certificates and tokens of appreciation to the judges. The announcement of winners for the Kantarit and Christmasayaw competitions followed:

The Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (BECEd) and the Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) programs made the atmosphere vibrant and joyful as they celebrated the Educational Technology (EdTech) Celebration 2024 presenting Ms. Fhukerat 2024 and Christmas party yesterday, December 6, 2024, at the Student Development Center.

The said program was divided into two parts: the EdTech celebration in the morning, where all BECEd and BEEd third-year students showcased their electrifying talents and wits using modern technology, and the year-end Christmas party celebration for both programs in the afternoon.

The program formally started with the Tableau presentations performed by third-year students. Mrs. Evelyn Bajado gave a warm welcome message and read the rationale of the activity, explaining the importance of the event in this modern world. Afterward, Ms. Vicky Mae M. Duque gave a short message in behalf of Dr. Jerald P. Torillo, Campus Administrator.

The event opened with an energetic hip-hop intermission featuring the Alagang Ginebra Girls, which excited the audience. This lively performance was followed by the stunning production number of the candidates vying for Ms. Fhukerat 2024. The panel of judges was then introduced, and Ms. Jessah Marie Aligarbes carefully outlined the judging criteria. Following this, the Ako Nalang Kasi dance group presented an artistic dance drama.

Next, the candidates of Ms. Fhukerat 2024 graced the stage in their casual wear. An interpretative dance performed by the Bakit Di Nalang Ako dance group followed, showcasing their creativity. The candidates then moved on to their sportswear presentation, with two more intermission numbers by the Alagang Ginebra dance group. The showcase of talent during the talent portion brought laughter and joy to the audience as the candidates dazzled with their unique skills.

After another intermission, the candidates returned to the stage to present their elegance in the evening gown segment. The Bakit Di Nalang Ako dance group captivated the crowd once more with a folk dance intermission. The most anticipated segment, the question and answer portion, impressed the audience as the candidates demonstrated their wit and intelligence. The pageant concluded with the crowning moment, as Mark Joven Elpedez of the Bachelor of Elementary Education was named Ms. Fhukerat 2024.

In the next part of the program, students and teachers actively participated in the Christmas party celebration, which featured a festive atmosphere filled with various dances and laughter. This event marked another success for the BECEd and BEEd programs, fostering a harmonious relationship between students and teachers.
