Sa barko, Deck hands ang madalas gumagamit ng deck crane, bibihira ang Engineers, pero tingin ko bilang lang siguro ang may kabisado kung ano ang ibig sabihin ng naka mark sa Jib… (SWL 4T 2 - 9.5m)

Sa picture, alam natin lahat na ang SWL o Safe Working Load ng crane ay 4Tons (4T).

The Ordinary Seaman…(OS)

Just like AB, the Ordinary Seaman or OS plays a very important role too…

Number one is Deck Operations: An Ordinary Seaman is responsible for assisting in deck operations, such as mooring and unmooring the ship, handling ropes, and maintaining the cleanliness and order of the deck.

Number two is adherence to Safety Procedures: An Ordinary Seaman plays a vital role in participating safety procedures on board the ship, such as fire/abandon ship drills, man overboard drills, and emergency response protocols. They must be aware of safety equipment locations and procedures to ensure the well-being of themselves and their fellow crew members.

Number three is Watchkeeping: An Ordinary Seaman is also assigned to stand watch, monitoring the ship's surroundings for any potential hazards, maintaining a lookout for other vessels, and assisting with navigation duties as required. (This requires proper STCW certification)

Keeping safety as the top priority is paramount for all crew members, including Ordinary Seamen. It is essential to always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, follow safety guidelines and procedures, participate in regular safety training sessions, and remain vigilant at all times to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment on board the ship.
