🫶 Find friends with similar goals - this will help you avoid being pressured into making impulsive purchases

🫶 Take advantage of free or low cost activities - instead of going out to eat, try cooking on your date night! Or work dates! Haha.

🫶 Share tips and talk about money with your friends - you don’t have to be ashamed of your financial situation, and don’t shame others for their financial journey as well. Use it to help your friends and family grow!

HOW TO OVERCOME IMPULSE SPENDING 💰

1️⃣ Track your expenses

Figure out how much exactly are your monthly expenses; be aware to where that money is going. I personally have a planner that is dedicated to track where my money is going.

2️⃣ Give yourself an allowance

Based on your spending, set aside an allowance for leisure. I call this “fun” money. I use it for take-outs, Shopee, Starbucks, eat out, etc. Reward yourself! But not too much.

3️⃣ Stop and question your purchases

Everytime you want to buy something , ask yourself WHY you are buying it. Start to bring more awareness to your spending.

I, myself, was an impulsive spender as well. And I was able to overcome it with the help of these 3 baby steps, of course, with the help of the people around me.

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝘂𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲?

I always tell my clients that insurance is one of the foundation of a good financial plan, for it can reduce the biggest financial risk of your family (your premature death).

Here are more specific examples of when it is a good idea to purchase it:

✅ If your absence would cause financial strain
✅ If you’re looking for something to help your family payoff mortgage, pay off debt, maintain a standard of living, send kids to college or cover other expenses
✅ If you want to save money on premiums (AKA the monthly price - often, the younger you are, the cheaper the price)

By purchasing sooner rather than later, you’re not only locking in a cheaper price but you’re using your health as well. Think of it as a monthly subscription to protect your loved ones financially.

While there are a lot of insurance companies and financial advisors out there, I want to remind you that the best insurance plan is an IN FORCED one. Because we’ll never know when life will hit us hard.

It is simply spending according to your values. That means purchasing only what really matters to you, along with necessities. More importantly, it’s avoiding spending on things you don’t value or doesn’t bring you joy.

You shouldn’t hate yourself for spending money on the things that bring you true JOY. You just have to figure out what those are.

For me, it’s

- travel ✈️
- eating out ☕️
- self care 💆‍♀️

The choice between buying a house and renting is one of the biggest financial decision. There’s a stigma around renting that we are “throwing our money away” if we are to rent.

So, today, I thought of sharing with you some pros and cons of both renting and buying a house. Let me start by saying that NOT one approach is ‘better’ than the other.

✈️ flexibility & freedom to move (if you get a job in another country/city you can pack up and go)
🔧 don’t have to pay for maintenance & repairs
💰 no property tax
🏠 no hassle of selling

CONS ❌
📈 increasing rent
💰 Cannot build wealth through equity
⚖️ Not stable (incase owner/landlord decides to sell the house)
🎀 Limited personalization/ Need landlord approval on changes in the house

PROS ✅

🎨 you can make it your own
✨ longer term stability
📈 a good long term investment

CONS ❌
💸 initial savings / costs can be extremely high
🪚 maintenance costs
🗺 lack of flexibility with moving (especially short term)
💭 risks (bad neighbours, house prices fall, inability to pay mortgage)

Have you considered owning a car? Recently a lot of friends/clients are asking me if owning a car is expensive. And my answer is a big YES. The price of a car is just one consideration. Aside from that, here are some of the things you should consider when owning a car:

FUEL: 8,000/month

FINANCE CHARGE - If you are paying thru an autoloan, ofcourse its more expensive than buying in cash

INSURANCE: 20,000/year

LICENSING, REGISTRATION – 2,300/year

MAINTENANCE COST
PMS: 10,000/year
Tires: 20,000/ 2 years
Change Oil: 10,000/year
Battery: 5,000/3 years
Car Wash: 6,000/year
