The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Second Division has ruled to disqualify former Caloocan Congressman Edgar "Egay" Erice from running in the 2025 midterm elections.
The disqualification stemmed from accusations that Erice spread false information online, allegedly trying to disrupt the election process.
The petition, filed by Raymond Salipot on October 7, claimed that Erice used alarmist rhetoric and unverified allegations of bribery and corruption against the COMELEC.
Poll body Chairman George Garcia had inhibited himself from the case, as he was one of those named in a graft case filed by Erice in August over the awarding of an P18-billion election automation contract.
In response, Erice rejected the disqualification, claiming it was based on ‘flimsy’ reasons.
“I will pursue the cases I filed against the Comelec officials and we will Fight for country and people,” Erice wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
