Sa Mendiola, ating inaalala—hindi lang bilang gunita, kundi bilang panata—ang Mendiola Massacre. Enero 22, ang araw na pinaslang ng mga puwersa ng estado ang mga magsasakang lumaban para sa kanilang lupa, kabuhayan, at katarungan.
Ito rin ang buwan kung kailan nagsimula ang Unang Sigwa, nang bumaha sa lansangan ang libu-libong kabataan at mamamayan, bitbit ang galit at panawagan laban sa lumulobong matrikula, pagsirit ng presyo ng langis, malalim na agwat ng mayaman at mahirap, at sa anino ng diktadurang Marcos.
Ang lansangan na ito ay naging saksi na kumakatawan sa katapangan ng bawat Pilipinong handang maghain ng kani-kanilang panawagan, adhikain, at kritisismo sa gobyerno para sa kabutihang panlahat.
Ating silipin ang makabagong isyung panlipunang kinahaharap ng bawat Pilipino sa pinakabagong isyu ng ‘Mendiola’.

In delving into this issue, it is imperative to approach such a topic with open minds and critical thinking—qualities exemplified by the national figure we are honoring today, Dr. Jose Rizal. The objective here is not to adopt a partisan posture, but to foster constructive and informed discussions.
