FDCP Sine Kabataan Sine Kabataan Short Film Lab & Festival under FDCP gives a platform to all aspiring young filmmakers and provides an opportunity to expose their fresh talents.

It serves to encourage the youth to develop their creativity and originality in storytelling. Sine Kabataan Short Film Lab and Festival under the Film Development Council of the Philippines is a platform for the Filipino youth to showcase their unique perspective on societal issues through film. It aims to foster the creativity of young filmmakers and support the development and production of thei

r films. Sine Kabataan is accepting story concepts from Filipino filmmakers aged 18-30 years old who have produced at least one (1) short film. Chosen finalists will receive PHP 150,000 production grant.

CHECK OUT WHO TOOK HOME THE AWARDS AT SINE KABATAAN SHORT FILM FESTIVAL 2024!

The efforts of these young SineKab filmmakers paid off as we reveal the winners of the 7th Sine Kabataan Short Film Festival 2024.

Taking home the Best Short Film, Best Director, and Best Cinematography awards is Juvy Ann Clarito’s Sa Ilalum sa Balabal sa Alitaptap (Beneath the Firefly Veil) from Davao de Oro.

Gio Alpuente’s film on an emotional journey of self-discovery High Tide or Low Tide? comes out with Best Screenplay, while Dembert Tiamson’s If I Were a Voice and Clyde Gamale’s Ang Halikan sa Water Fountain won Best Editing and the Special Jury prize respectively.

A Special Mention was awarded to ARAPAAP from Zeus Batondo.

The Sine Kabataan Jury was composed of award-winning filmmakers Danzen Katanyag, Arjanmar Rebeta and Stephen Lopez.

Congratulations to all the winners and all our SineKab filmmakers! We can’t wait to see where your talents take you next!

IN PHOTOS: The opening day of Sine Kabataan Short Film Festival 2024, September 20, at Red Carpet Cinema, Shangri-La Plaza, Mandaluyong.

After months of hard work in pitching and production, nine (9) short films from nine (9) emerging young filmmakers were showcased, offering fresh and creative perspectives on pressing social issues.

The festival concludes with its final screening and subsequent award ceremony tomorrow, September 22, at the same venue.

Synopsis:
After losing his job, 28-year-old Erwin faces the daunting task of moving out of his apartment with limited options and dwindling support from friends. While packing, he stumbles upon an old tin can telephone he made with his father as a child. On a whim, he tests the long-forgotten toy, only to be shocked when a voice answers back—the unmistakable voice of his father, who has been dead for several years and has been out of his life for nearly two decades. As they talk, Erwin opens up about his life, seeking advice and solace in this unexpected reunion. But when their conversation turns to his strained relationship with his mother, tensions rise, leading to a moment of frustration that threatens to sever the connection forever.

Bonbon, a boy with a curious mind has an assignment to ask his parents what are their dreams before, but with his parents being gone and his indifferent lola, lola Belen, has no time for him, he asks the kwitis lying around for the answers he's looking for. On the next day, Bonbon's teacher reveals that they will hold the class' Araw ng mga Pangarap, where they will flaunt their costumes as their dreams when they grow up. With what he hears from his classmates, Bonbon decided with full smiles that when he grows up he wants to be dead. His exclamation made everyone shocked and worried.

Synopsis:
Ralph, a q***r student leader, becomes the center of controversy when a non-consensual recording of his intimate encounter on school premises, made by a teacher named Sir Andrew, erupts. His adviser, Sir Robert, consoles him, reminding Ralph of the institutions’ inherent discrimination to people like them. Despite being barred from joining the speech choir due to the scandal, Ralph decides to join, leading to a confrontation with his classmate Christian and his suspension. Returning secretly to school the next day, Ralph discovers Sir Andrew's abusive behavior–including that with his friend named Patty–and a plot against Sir Robert–to which is all not being addressed by the principal, Dr. Santos. With the help of his class, Section Scarlet, Ralph plans to expose these abuses. And during a speech choir performance, tension mounts as Ralph faces off with Sir Andrew. Then, a sudden revelation disrupts the space, leading to Ralph's triumphant smile as the performance continues with renewed purpose and solidarity against oppression.
