SARA DUTERTE TO SKIP PBBM'S SONA; NAMES HERSELF 'DESIGNATED SURVIVOR'
Vice President Sara Duterte said on Thursday, July 11, that she would not attend President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s third State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 22.
This would be her first time not to grace the event since she assumed the post in 2022, further increasing speculations that she has broken ties with Marcos.
In an ambush interview at an event in Davao City, Duterte said, "No, I will not attend sa SONA. I am appointing myself as the designated survivor."
According to Wikipedia, in the United States, a designated survivor or designated successor is a person in the presidential line of succession who is kept distant from others in the line when they are gathered together, to reduce the chance that everyone in the line will be unable to take over the presidency in a catastrophic or mass-casualty event.
Last month, Duterte quit from Marcos' Cabinet.
She resigned as secretary of the Department of Education and vice chair of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) effective July 19. ###

BATANGUEÑA CANCER PATIENT GRADUATES SUMMA CUM LAUDE
While battling cancer, a 24-year-old mother from Balagtas, Batangas City has managed to graduate summa cm laude.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) of Batangas recently passed a resolution, authored by Councilor Andrea Macaraig, commending Annaricha Mae Dalag for being an inspiration to everyone for her determination to finish her education despite struggling with Stage 3 thymoma cancer.
According to the American Cancer Society, thymus cancer starts in the thymus gland when the cells grow out of control and crowd out normal cells. The thymus is a small organ located just behind the breast bone in the front part of the chest.
Dalag, the president of the Persons With Disabilities (PWD) Federation in her barangay, recently graduated from the Philippine State College of Aeronautics in Ferdinand Air Base Campus, Lipa City. She took up a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Electronics Technology and got the highest Latin award, summa cm laude.
During the SP session, Dalag shared her challenges before she could finish her education after she was diagnosed with cancer in 2016.
She said there was a time when she was on the brink of death; how she lost her hair due to chemotherapy and radiation; she could only move using a wheelchair; and how other people treated her as if she had a contagious disease, among others.
Her doctor told her that she had a “10-year survival rate.”
But her faith in the Lord keeps her going.
“Tanging si God lang ang makakaalam kung hanggang kailan ako. Si God lang ang makakapagsabi,” Dalag said.
Up to now, Dalag said she is still fighting cancer.
But despite that, she said she decided to have her child. She wanted to experience how to have her own family.
“Kaya haba pong may pagkakaton pa tayo, habang kasama pa po natin ang mga mahal natin sa buhay, sulitin po natin 'yun. Pahalagahan po natin sila kase hindi po natin alam kung hanggang kailan na lang tayo dito sa mundo. Sabi nga po n
