India confirms first two cases of human metapneumovirus

Two human metapneumovirus (HMPV) cases have been detected in Bengaluru, India’s Health Ministry confirmed today. The first reported cases are an eight-month-old who is recovering in the hospital and a three-month-old who has been discharged.

Recent reports of an outbreak of HMPV in China have raised alarm globally. However, India's Ministry of Health said the situation in China is not unusual given the ongoing flu season. Currently, strict isolation protocols and universal precautions for suspected cases have been made mandatory in the country.

, first identified in 2001, is a respiratory infection that causes flu-like symptoms. It can affect people of all ages, however, young children (below 5 years), older adults, and those with weakened immune systems are at a higher risk.

Russia has unveiled its own mRNA vaccine for cancer, set to be distributed free of charge to patients starting early 2025, according to state news agency TASS.

JUST IN: BRP Teresa Magbanua has returned to Palawan with hungry and dehydrated personnel.

Magbanua had been sent to Escoda Shoal some 140 km away from Palawan to guard against alleged Chinese reclamation activities in the area.

China has been blocking resupply missions to Magbanua and has called on the Philippines to withdraw the ship.

The Philippine Coastguard says the withdrawal was due to humanitarian reasons more than political.

PCG Spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea cited bad weather in the arwa compounded by damage sustained by ramming by China Coastguard ships in August.
