Savoring Tradition: A Morning at Netong's Original La Paz Batchoy
If you ever find yourself in Iloilo, there’s one dish everyone insists you try—Batchoy. This heartwarming noodle soup is a must-try, and the best place to experience its rich flavors is none other than La Paz Market. Eager to start my day on a high note, I made my way there early one morning and found myself at the legendary Netong's Original La Paz Batchoy.
Even at 7 AM, the place was already buzzing with activity. Locals and tourists alike flocked to Netong's for their breakfast fix, and the atmosphere was electric with the scent of simmering broth and the hum of conversation. Clearly, Batchoy isn’t just a dish here; it’s a way to start the day.
What made my visit even more special was meeting Ma'am Alice, the talented batchoy maker at Netong's. With decades of experience behind her, she’s a true guardian of this iconic dish. Watching her assemble their famous Batchoy—pouring the steaming broth, adding the tender pork, fresh noodles, and crispy chicharron—was a heartfelt experience. It’s clear that she pours her love and passion into every bowl, keeping the tradition alive.
And that first taste? Pure comfort. The Batchoy was rich, savory, and perfectly paired with a side of puto (steamed rice cake). The combination was just what I needed on a cool morning, and each spoonful was like a warm hug. I couldn’t help but savor every bite.
Would I go back to Netong’s? Absolutely! It’s not just a place to eat; it’s a spot where you feel the soul of Iloilo in every spoonful. If you’re ever in Iloilo City, do yourself a favor and make your way to La Paz Market for an early morning bowl of Batchoy. Trust me, it’s an experience you won’t forget, and it’s the perfect way to taste a bit of Iloilo’s rich heritage.

Mangosteen Guessing Game
Mangosteen Trivia🌿✨
Here’s a fun bit of tropical fruit trivia you might not know (I didn’t until recently!)... Ever noticed the “flower” at the bottom of a mangosteen? If you count the petals on it, they perfectly match the number of fruit segments inside! 🍈✨
Pretty cool, right? 😄 Usually, you’ll find 5 to 9 petals, and here’s a little tip: more petals often mean more fruit segments WITHOUT seeds! So next time you’re at the market, turn those mangosteens over and pick the ones with the most petals! 😉🌸
