i was once asked, what’s my best coping mechanism? how do i deal with my problems? the first thing that popped into my mind was “disappearing.” yes, i like the idea of disappearing — disappearing without a trace. I don’t get mad often; I just disappear.

some days, i feel a desperate urge to leave everything behind and just fly away, hide from all the people i know. i crave isolation. it’s not that i don’t enjoy people’s company, but sometimes, when the world weighs too heavily on my chest, i just want to run away from everything and everyone, feeling like smoke disappearing into the clouds. it helps me protect my sanity and make sense of life.

disappearing is almost always seen negatively. most people fail to understand it’s a way of reclaiming your peace of mind. in a world that constantly demands your attention and forces you to stay involved, even when you don’t feel like it, it’s better to disappear for a while and regain your freedom.

for me, disappearing means having the freedom to do whatever i love — reading novels, getting lost in the woods and walking for hours, traveling to new places, exploring cultures. there’s no pressure to indulge in social interactions or attend parties where you stick to a corner, hoping nobody will see you or talk to you!

the art of disappearing is the art of recharging yourself and reflecting upon your life. “you matter!” it’s important to take a pause from the busy routine of this fast-paced life and retreat into solitude.

but deep inside, is it really the only reason we yearn to disappear? as humans, our utmost desire is to be seen. beneath this mask of running away lies an extreme longing to be found.

so, yes! i disappear a lot, and live my solitude. but i hope someday someone will find me and liberate me from my darkness.
