Drum Recording Glyn Johns
How about drum sounds that's cool and vibey? With a sweet stereo image that folds well to mono.
With the fluffy beater just feathering the bass drum; applicable to genre/style such as singer/songwriter, indie, folk, jazz trio... where the drum tones can ring out as part of the soundscape.
Glyn Johns Drum Mic'ing Technique with 4038 ribbon mics thru AEA TRP2 preamps. Can also be executed with condenser and dynamic mics.
Mic placement: over snare, over floor tom. Ensure even distance from snare center for perfect phase alignment.
Mix Panning: L = 10 o'clock, R = 3 o'clock. Actually... up to personal taste.

THAT BAND ASTRA Recording In The Studio 4149
That Band Astra in the studio working on their new songs.
I'd like to share a bit of my process/method to those interested. There are many ways to approach recording a song and this is but one that I find to work.
Due to the dynamic nature of the song, which while in 4/4, had sections with triplets, pauses and breakdowns - so wr set them up for live recording of the rhythm section, without a metronome or click - to preserve the live and explosive moments.
On this clip, it's drums, bass, rhythm guitar and guide vox inside the room so that the musicians have direct eye contact with each other. Goal on this take is to have keeper drum parts, then overdub everything else.
What about bleed? There is none or super minimal bleed to the drum tracks. Mic gain levels are so low coz of the super loud source
Guitars go to an amp to our PHATBOX isolated speaker cab.
Bass guitar is DI with a little bit of cab volume to push a bit of air as that helps musicians feel the groove.
Vox is multed to a PA so that musicians know exactly where not to cross path with vocals.
There, a bit of technical BTS to give an idea on the myth of recording live. Good luck!
