No extra rice for 6 days, Beau.

We’re proud of you, RJ Abarrientos!

Kung gusto niyo naman manalo ng extra ₱1,000, sumali na sa aking paraffle. I-visit lamang ang aking profile at tingnan ang featured post para sa mga detalye. Goodluck mga ka-Update!

NoyPi Justin Brownlee

We can now officially call Ginebra’s long-time import Justin Brownlee our very own kababayan. The well-loved reinforcement obtained the signature of President Bongbong Marcos yesterday, according to Senator Francis Tolentino.

Brownlee’s journey from replacing the then-injured Paul Harris to becoming a legal Filipino citizen will undoubtedly bring any Pinoy hoop fans a smile.

Justin Jordan and Stanley Kerr

Bay Area Dragons' and Australian Boomers' head coach Brian Goorjian described Justin Brownlee and Stanley Pringle as famous Chicago Bulls' former players Michael Jordan and Steve Kerr. According to the veteran tactician, the two ultimately killed the Dragons in Game 5.

Brownlee torched Bay Area with 37 big points, but if it was not NoyPi Justin, who stabbed the chances of their opponent, it was Kerr, with a fully grown beard, who delivered clutch treys to seal the victory on their hands as he contributed 20 markers in six triples.

Can we see another superb performance from the duo, or will Game 6 be the recovery outing for Bay Area?

"My heart will always bleed maroon," Carl Tamayo.

Do Myles Powell and Hayden Blankley deserve to be fined?

With their comments from the officiating in Game 3 of the Commissioners’ Cup Finals, the PBA decided to slap Bay Area Dragons’ Myles Powell and Hayden Blankley. The American guard was given P100,000 while the 23-year-old forward became P75,000 poorer.

Both cagers criticized the officiating, with Powell citing the free throw disparity between the Ginebra and the visiting team. But does this move by the league merit the Dragons’ action?

The oldest pay-to-play league in Asia has been accumulating backlash in recent years. It caused the PBA’s image to plummet with unfair trades, officiating, and fines. This kind of decision limits the players’ freedom of speech or voice to echo down their opinion, whether subjective or objective points of view bind it.

Do better, PBA!

Who is Slavoljub Lale Gorunovic?

With Chot Reyes focusing his sights on Gilas Pilipinas, former PBA player Jolas Lastimosa will take over the helm for the MVP favorite TNT Tropang Giga. But Lastimosa will not be alone in the job. According to an article from PhilStar, Serbian tactician Slavoljub Lale Gorunovic is on his way to assuming the active consultant role, a position not new to the team.

Gorunovic previously had a head coaching stint with Kaohshuing Steelers in P.League + of Taiwan and US Monastir from Basketball Africa League (BAL). He also had a chance to control Tab Baldwin’s former team from Lebanon, Segasse SC. Besides the TNT duty, the well-traveled coach will also input some advice on the National team.

His coaching prowess will be challenged as the Tropang Giga is coming off the worst performance in Reyes’ comeback, winning only four of their 12 total assignments. Consecutively, they failed to qualify for the playoffs after being runner-up in this season’s Philippine Cup.

Do you think this TNT move can make them better for the next conference?

The Blue Eagles are your UAAP Champs again!

Fueled by their last season's loss and the looming doubt of their chances for this year, the ADMU Blue Eagles soar higher than those challenges to collate their fourth crown in five full seasons. The squad won the series' last two games to recover from a 0-1 disadvantage and sn**ch the thrown as the best in the UAAP.

Angelo Kouame received his first Finals MVP award as he figured his way back to form with averages of 17.7 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks across three hard-fought games. The 25-year-old center graduated with one more chip on his belt to increase his total to three and is set to undergo surgery to repair his ACL tear.

The Katipunan squad also relied heavily upon Forthsky Padrigao, Korea-bound Dave Ildefonso, BJ Andrade, and rookie Kai Balunggay to steady the charge against the mighty and heavy-hitter Maroons. And last but not least, this championship is another addition to Tab Baldwin's magnificent coaching career, which cements his status as part of the best in college history.

They may have been beaten in season 84 but make no mistake, Ateneo will bounce back to ascend to glory, and now they emphatically did.

L333TRAN KNIGHTS 🏆🏆🏆

It's not often you see a team dominate the NCAA the way the CSJL Knights did. With them bagging Game 3 of the tournament's Finals, the Knights enjoyed their three-straight championship and 20th overall.

Playing without Fran Yu, the Intramuros-based squad played inspired, launching an early assault to gain a comfortable separation they greatly needed as CSB Blazers tried to claw back. Yu, Louis Sangalang, and Brent Paraiso are among the big names of graduating PBA hopefuls, and having another championship in their resume will significantly help their bid to be selected early.

The only question left is if the squad is their capability of competing in the following years, especially as their seniors leave the program. But for now, let the Knights celebrate their well-deserved chip. Arriba Letran!

Beat them from beyond
- Bay Area Dragons probably

The Bay Area Dragons emphatically won Game 2 against the titan San Miguel Beermen to put their foot a step away into the Finals and create a 2-0 series separation.

And how did they do it? The Dragons outgun the Beermen from the three, wherein they nailed 17 with 54% shooting. In comparison, their opponent only had seven. The defending champs also need to sort out how they will use Devon Scott, as he was underwhelming with only 14 points. It was June Mar Fajardo who carried the load for his squad, tallying monster 35 points and 10 rebounds.

If this trend continues, the Beermen will be in trouble and, more likely, will be eliminated without contest. A balanced team like Bay Area will not hesitate to shoot its way into the championship round.

The Mythical five left outs.

Sadly, only five cagers will be part of the elite per-position first team, and other notable players will settle away from the list as the outliers. And in the UAAP season 85, those guys were Schonny Winston and Jerom Lastimosa.

The graduating guards led their respective squads but failed to crack the Mythical five due to missing pivotal games for the highly contested award. Winston tops the scoring as he put up 21.29 per game, while Lastimosa became a crowd favorite as he willed Adamson for the last spot in the Final 4, averaging 14.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists.

Whom would you replace to accommodate these two bonified talents if you had a chance?

Even with Brownlee “defended,” Ginebra still escaped the Hotshots in a tight well-contested match.

Justin Brownlee only had 11 points in seven shots, but the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel ended the game up top against their archrivals, Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots. The opening of the Manila Clasico series gave us an outstanding match-up between two terrific teams with balance offensive and defensive firepower.

The crowd-favorite squad prioritized their second chance scoring, topping Magnolia in those statistics, 27-16. This domination may have been attributed to Nikola Rakucevic’s departure in the third after he incurred a flagrant foul. His presence could have helped the Mags, especially with Ginebra opting to play small ball with Brownlee plugging in at the 5.

Ginebra also shared the ball more, with 24 assists against 18 of their opponents. They also need to shell their focus out of the antics of Christian Standhardinger as he provided the energy and s***k that elevated Ginebra.

It was a balanced head-to-head, and we can expect adjustments from both sides to make this series more interesting.

Late storm and turnover points lift the Dragons past a massive hole against SMB!

The start of the Semifinals Game 1 between Bay Area Dragons and San Miguel Bermeen looks like a lost cause for the visiting squad after a 16-point disadvantage with four minutes remaining into the third, 83-67. But the Dragons fired back in the closing period, launching a clogging defense coupled with potent scoring to salvage the opening battle in their favor.

Besides the fourth-quarter outburst, the Brian Goorjian-mentored squad forced the Beermen into 16 turnovers which they converted into 16 points of their own. They also outrun the Philippine Cup champ, collating 15 markers in the fastbreak instead of two by their opponents.

Jun Mar Fajardo, the Beermen’s leading man, struggled to stay in the court, especially when they needed him the most. He was often exposed defensively by Zhu Songwei as Devon Scott took care of Andrew Nicholson.

The opening game is just a signal of an exciting series up on our hands, and as fans, we all love a heavyweight slugfest.

COLLEGE MVPs! 👑👑

With the near closing of top college leagues in the country, the UAAP and NCAA crown the best players or MVPs of their respective tournaments.

Malick Diouf, a foreign student-athlete from the defending champs University of the Philippines, is set to sn**ch the award for the first time, edging out Forthsky Padrigao in the race. The 6-11 slotman averaged 10.8 points, 10.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.6 blocks, and 1.5 steals across 14 games.

Meanwhile, Will Gozum, a transferee from UP to the College of St. Benilde Blazers of the NCAA, bagged the achievement mentioned above while leading his squad with 17.2 points on 53.1% shooting, 9.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.1 blocks.

Both players are also gunning for the most coveted team basketball award, the championship. The Fighting Maroons are trying to win back-to-back chips as they clash with perennial contender ADMU Blue Eagles. On the other hand, the series between the Blazers and Letran Knights are in a stalemate at 1-1 as the win-or-go-home Game 3 approach.

From Team B to Multi-awarded

Cade Flores turned his career around with a wise and momentous decision to transfer schools. The 6-4 banger appeared in FEU Tamaraws’ Team B in 2018 before opting for a fresher start at Arellano University of the NCAA.

His reward is a more significant opportunity and awards to speak for his hard work. The now Arellano star bagged the Rookie of the Year honors and Defensive Player of the Year award. And the biggest was his inclusion to the league’s Mythical team alongside MVP Will Gozum, JB Bahio, James Kweketye, and King Caralipio.

He proved that he only needed trust and the chance to showcase his skills.

A signature away from becoming a Gilas

Justin Brownlee will only need an autograph from President Bongbong Marcos to close out his naturalization and officially play for the Gilas Pilipinas.

Recently, his paper passed the third and final reading of the Senate, and with the same version from the House of Representatives, it is an expected smooth ride for Brownlee’s case.

At 34, the resident Ginebra import is favored to play in the February window, especially without Jordan Clarkson and the need to have reliable firepower offensively.

The dream of Brownlee becoming a Filipino is already long overdue. Still, our now kabayan would gladly and happily accept and play for the country that loves and treasures his contribution.

THE CONFUSING SITUATION OF SCHONNY WINSTON

Weeks ago, Schonny Winston was praised due to him topping the UAAP race but fast forward to now, the 6-4 guard was even called "loser" by someone from his turf.

While missing multiple pivotal games due to a reported calf strain, according to his stepfather, Lauri Watkins, DLSU misdiagnosed Winston's injury and that it was actually a torn calf rather than a strain. Additionally, it frustrated the DLSU management, especially as the team leans on him to carry a considerable load.

But even with this controversy, the graduating playmaker expressed his gratitude towards the school.

What caused the TNT Tropang GIGA's downfall?

Well-known as a steady contender in any conference, the TNT Tropang Giga suffered an unexpected collapse in the Commissioners' Cup. The reason behind this? Injuries.

Jayson Castro, Poy Erram, and even Cameron Oliver had to miss a few significant games to accommodate their health.

Also, Mikey Williams declined production, and RR Pogoy's erratic play affected the team. Then, there's also an issue with Williams,' but it was "already solved," as the report says.

One conference can only say the present make-up of the team, but if the Tropang GIGA fails to address the issue, this may disconnect the franchise from the crown.
