Dr. Dulay opened the session with a comprehensive discussion on the Foundations of Positive Parenting and the crucial role of social studies in shaping values within the family.
Her presentation included the following key topics:
โข The Role of Social Studies in Parenting and Education
โข The Shared Responsibilities of Parents and Teachers
โข Integrating Social Studies Concepts into Daily Life
She also delved into relevant legal frameworks, such as:
โข The Family Code of the Philippines

โข Republic Act 9344, otherwise known as the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006
โข Republic Act 10627, otherwise known as the Anti-Bullying Act of 2013
In the afternoon, Mr. Cantes shared his insights on addressing social issues through positive parenting and offered practical strategies and resources for parents to navigate these challenges effectively.
This initiative aligns with the universityโs commitment to sustainable extension, community engagement, and public service excellence.
It also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
SDG 4: Quality Education โ Ensuring inclusive and equitable education for all.
SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities โ Promoting inclusivity, safety, resilience, and sustainability.
Additionally, it is in line with IFSUโs Goal 3: Sustainable Extension and Community Engagement.
The seminar emphasized the powerful intersection between social studies education and parenting. It recognized that the home serves as a childโs first classroom, with parents playing a pivotal role as their childrenโs earliest and most influential educators.
