𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗡𝗼𝘄 | Day 2 of BayanANIhan Summit continues at West Visayas State University, Cultural Center, today.

All the third-year and fourth-year students of West Visayas State University- College of Agriculture and Forestry gathered together to witness the event, together with other delegates from different institutions of Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas and guests from Luzon and Mindanao.

The program started with a keynote message from the Executive Director of Gawad Kalinga, Daniel Bercasio, who reminded everyone with the phrase "Hindi pwede ang pwede na". This encourages the youth to step up despite their age.

The President / CEO of La Filipina Uy Gongco Group of Companies, Gerald Jone Uygongco also delivered his keynote message highlighting the success of the company through the philosophy of farm to fork and the importance of family towards success.

The program was then followed by the WVSU Dance and Cultural Affairs, Teatro Tayo with their heartfelt performance entitled, "Pagtahi sang Damgo".

The plenary session started with Chelsea Paterno moderating. The first speaker, Mr. Manuel Feleciano D. Griño, Head of Gawad Kalinga Productivity Hub- North Cotobato, GK Enchanted Farm, and Rocebil M. Ruiz, the project head of Adlai Production, followed by Bea EMMA Bachinela, MPA, Program Chair, Agribusiness Management Department, University of St. Lasalle Bacolod.

𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗡𝗼𝘄 | The West Visayas State University-College of Agriculture and Forestry participates in the BayanANIhan Summit 2024 at West Visayas State University, Lapaz, Iloilo, today.

University President Dr. Joselito F. Villaruz delivered his welcome address, alongside Mr. Iñigo Garingalao, Head of the Agriculture and Fisheries Office of Iloilo City, who also welcomed the delegates through his opening remarks. The WVSU Dance and Cultural Affairs group presented a graceful intermission number before the plenary session began.

During the Plenary Session focused on the Fisheries Sector, Dr. Roger Eduard discussed the South East Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC), Ms. Jeane Malou Togle from the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources talked about fostering a culture of productivity to alleviate poverty in families and communities, Mr. Wilfredo G. Yap, Executive Director of SANTEH Aquaculture Science and Technology Foundation, highlighted opportunities in aquaculture, and Mr. Seth Luigi Borbon, Founder of Clawseth Aquafarm, also shared insights.

The summit will continue with various activities including Breakout Sessions, Competitions, Participant Insights Harvest, the Bayanahinan Movement Founding Assembly, and Cultural Night, later.

𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗡𝗼𝘄 | The West Visayas State University-College of Agriculture and Forestry hosts the second day of the first ASEAN Agriculture and Forestry Summit through the collaborative efforts of the university, Kasetsart University of Thailand led by Dr. Donludee Jaisut, West Visayas State University-College of Agriculture and Forestry led by Dr. Joel A. Araquil Sr., IZN Coordinator Prof. Michael Victor Gonzales, and Ms. Jenni Montero, Regional Manager of Camosun College, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

Joining today's event is WVSU President Dr. Joselito F. Villaruz; IP Focal and DepEd teacher Mrs. Ma. Mae L. Mandario; Agriculture Technical Representatives of the LGU Lambunao, Ms. Kamillah V. Libo-on and Mr. Ariel V. Lamasan; CPSU faculty representative, Prof. Dominic Billen; and the previous campus administrator, Dr. Dominador L. Lisao.

Together with the Director of the Agriculture Department, Dr. Anthony L. Leal, Director of the Forestry Department, Dr. Jerry A. Ceballos, faculty, staff, and students of WVSU-CAF are gathered to embark on a journey of TABO, TUNGKAD, and TIRAW.

𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗡𝗼𝘄 | The West Visayas State University hosts the 1st ASEAN Agriculture and Forestry Summit through the collaborative efforts of the said University, the Kasetsart University of Thailand, West Visayas State University - College of Agriculture and Forestry led by Dr. Joel A. Araquil, Sr. and IZN Coordinator, Prof. Micheal Victor Gonzales, the WVSU International and Local Linkages Office, headed by Prof. Edel Carmela Subong-Csoka, and Ms. Jennifer Montero, the Regional Manager of Camosun College, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

Dr. Donludee Jaisut of Kasetsart University is present in the program and expected to take part on the said occasion. Guests and school heads of partner institutions are also attending the program, namely, Dr. Nemesio Loayon of Northeastern Mindanao State University and Dr. Joy C. Capistrano of Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology.

The Ang Amihan Publication conducted oral and written interviews for aspiring staffers at the library located on the second floor last August 22, spearheaded by the Editor-in-Chief, Aaron Albert Gumban. This event aimed to recruit new members interested in contributing to the publication’s mission and activities.

The applicants received a warm welcome from the publication adviser, Mrs. Mairaz Lavilla. During her address, she emphasized the importance of understanding each designated role within the publication and assured them that once they became members, they would receive an orientation regarding their assigned roles. She stated, "...in every position, may ana nga designation. Once you become a member, you will be oriented regarding the position assigned to you."

A total of nine aspiring students participated in this event, representing both the Agriculture and Forestry departments. These students took on the challenge with the goal of becoming part of the campus journalism team, which plays a crucial role in documenting and reporting on various events. The interviews included both oral and written assessments to evaluate the applicants' writing abilities and their capacity to articulate ideas verbally.

The Campus Tour for the freshmen students of West Visayas State University - College of Agriculture and Forestry kicked off, yesterday afternoon. This was held as a continuation of the General Orientation that aims for guiding students about the rules and regulations so as the personnels incharge of the different offices of the campus.

The curriculum was divided according to their sections with a corresponding facilitators from the faculty and the AFSC. The facilitators for each groups are as follows; Mr. Philip Andrew Labriaga and Mr. Raffy Danggoy with AFSC Officers JC Fernandez and Jolo Castor for BSA 1-A; Mr. John Paul Palma and Mr. Mark Joshua Talas with AFSC Officers Jushua Sobrevega and Jessie Ajera for BSA 1-B; Mr. Christian Arca and Mr. Darwin Calubayan together with AFSC Officers Jonathan Gellanje, Jerome Casaquite and Christine Mae Legaste for BSA 1-C; Mrs. Jonnalyn Araquil and Mr. Jenard Tambong with AFSC Officers Zeph Nicole Bermudo and Mark Kevin Colacion for BSA 1-D; For. Jan Wella Rabulan together with AFSC Officers Hannah Marie Seniego, Marlon Andoque and Bernard Felix Molejona for BSF 1-A; and For. Jhonila Jean Laspiñas and For. Coril Harlene Machine with AFSC Officers Rhyzanea Mandadero, Ashley Stefanie Gallego and Lourden Oremo.

The tour started from the WVSU-CAF Grandstand, following their flow of the areas where they intended to visit respectively. The visited spots includes; Dormitories, OSA, Student's Center, GSO, Mari-it Agri-Eco Park, Animal Science Research Area, Admin Office, Clonal, Farmer's Training Center, Mangosteen Plantation, Cottages, Research Area, Agriculture Building, Forestry Building, Science Laboratory, AFSC Office, Research and Extension Office, Innovation and Planning Office, Library, INAS Building and NSTP Office.

The last part of the tour was an open forum and reflection about the freshmen's experiences and knowledge gathered during the campus tour. The program officially concluded at 5PM.

The West Visayas State University - College of Agriculture and Forestry held its General Orientation with the theme, "Into the Wild" at the WVSU-CAF Grandstand, yesterday, August 20. This event was designed to welcome all the students and provide them with essential information regarding their academic journey ahead.

Dr. Anthony L. Leal, Director of the Agriculture Department and Dr. Jerry A. Ceballos, Director of the Forestry Department, introduced the faculty from their respective departments. Also, Mrs. Norwinia D. Abogadil, Human Resource Management Officer, introduced the non-teaching personnel. This segment allowed students to connect names with faces, fostering a sense of belonging within the college.

Moreover, the orientation included detailed discussions on policies, rules, and regulations of the campus from various offices. Academic Concerns by Dr. Belinda G. Leonida, Director of Academic Affairs; Retention Policy by Dr. Jerry A. Ceballos, Director of Forestry Department; Registrar's Office by Mrs. Mary Ann Caro; Medical/Dental Services by Mrs. Darlene Alcantara; Library Services by Ms. Florence Fe Mendoza; Student and Guidance Services by For. Charie T. Toledo; Dormitory Policies by Mr. Carlo Laruan; and Security Concerns by Mr. Russel Galilea.

Dr. Helen G. Genandoy, the Acting Administrative Officer, officially closed the program. She stated, "Let me remind eveybody that what you are or who you are in this premises that will you become in the mainstream society....kung ano ang behavior ninyo, that will reflect of who you are....this school is like your another home and we are like your second parents." Her message serves as an encouragement for self-reflection among students. As they transition from an educational setting into broader societal roles, they must recognize the importance of maintaining positive behaviors that reflect well on themselves and their community. Also, to encourage them to consider how their time spent in this ‘second home’ will influence their future.

This event was a significant step in preparing students for their academic endeavors by familiarizing them with essential information about their college environment. WVSU-CAF aims to create an informed CAFamilia's, ready to tackle challenges that will undoubtedly contribute to their overall success at West Visayas State University.

The Turning Over and Installation Ceremony of Dr. Joel A. Araquil, Sr. successfully took place at the West Visayas State University- College of Agriculture and Forestry Grandstand, yesterday.

The program highlighted the turning over of the key of responsibility of Dr. Dominador L. Lisao, the outgoing Campus Administrator to Dr. Araquil. Dr. Lisao expressed his goodbye and support to the newly designated administrator stating that, "Salamat from the bottom of my heart , I have to turn over the responsibility to the new Campus Administrator... Sa tanan2 nga nagsuportar kanakon... Mabuhay ang College of Agriculture and Forestry."

Moreover, Dr. Joselito F. Villaruz, WVSU President affirmed the installation of Dr. Araquil, calling the role as "pivotal". He highlighted the status of WVSU-CAF as a Center of Development and congratulated Dr. Araquil expressing his hopes for the new Administrator to continue to provide the students with enriching learning experiences and transformative education. He also stressed the roles of Dr. Araquil in the students, advancement of the University Mission in research and the importance of the College in addressing the UN SDG, particularly in addressing food security and sustainability.

Expressing their message of support were Mr. Lourden C. Oremo, Chairperson of Agriculture and Forestry Student Council, comparing the role of Campus Administrator to a growing tree; Dr. Rex C. Casiple, Chief Education Program Specialist of the Commission of Higher Education, Region VI; For. Andres Untal, Assistant Regional Director for Management Services of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources; and Municipality of Lambunao Mayor, Hon. Raynor R. Gonzales.

One that I raise with the commitment to uphold the values and vision of the country and our institution... I believe that by working collaboratively we can achieve even greater heights, fostering an environment where innovation, inclusivity and excellence thrive, let us move forward with a shared purpose."

Dr. Dominador L. Lisao, the outgoing Campus Administrator is present at the event, as well as West Visayas State University President, Dr. Joselito F. Villaruz. Expected to take part in the occasion are OIC Regional Executive Directors of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Region VI, For. Raul L. Lorilla; Chief Education Program Specialist of the Commission of Higher Education, Region VI, Dr. Rex C. Casiple; and Municipality of Lambunao Mayor, Hon. Reynor R. Gonzales.

The whole West Visayas State University- College of Agriculture and Forestry joined hands in cleaning and clearing the campus from dirt and vegetation, today.

This is in response to the memorandum no. 2024-018 stating that this activity is for the "preparations of upcoming events scheduled and to avoid mosquitos considering that the case of dengue fever is now very alarming. "
The initiative is spearheaded by the Office of the Director of Academic Affairs and assisted by the Agriculture and Forestry Student Council and Class Advisers, ensuring that all areas are thoroughly cleaned.

The AFSC Chairperson, Lourden C. Oremo supports this activity, stating that "I believe that this do-day is very relevant and very important gid for our school because nga manami man turukon if ang aton school, as we start the SY 24-25, is matinlo and looking kita fresh...
And with the emerging (...) dengue cases giya sa aton lugar, especially giya sa may Lambunao, mayad gid nga makapaninlo kita for us to destroy the breeding places sang mga mosquitos, kag para mn malikawan naton nga giya sa CAF magkaroon kita kang dengue positive nga students. So amo gid ran ang pinaka important nga ma secure naton ang well-being, masecure naton ang health kag ang welfare kang aton mga students..."

Mrs. Belinda G. Leonida, the newly designated Director of Academic Affairs also supports the initiative highlighting the fact that the AY 2024-2025 has just started and that it is better to start the academic year with a clean environment. She also stated that this is one of the responsibilities of the students to help keep the whole WVSU-CAF clean. Ma'am Leonida also stressed the alarming number of dengue cases nowadays, highlighting the importance of cleaning to prevent the occurrence of the said illness in the school.

We are happy to announce and congratulate Dr. Joel A. Araquil Sr. on his appointment as the new Campus Administrator of West Visayas State University-College of Agriculture and Forestry, effective August 5, 2024.

Dr. Araquil succeeds Dr. Dominador L.Lisao who has established a foundation of excellence, and his commendable efforts have truly made a difference.

This appointment is a testament to Dr. Araquil’s dedication, hard work, and exceptional leadership. We are confident that his visionary guidance will lead the WVSU-CAF to new heights of success.

𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 | The West Visayas State University - College of Agriculture and Forestry celebrated a significant milestone with its Pasidungog on May 24, and 68th Commencement Exercises, yesterday.

These events symbolized the culmination of hard work and dedication from both students and faculty. The Pasidungog honored academic and non-academic awardees, showcasing the fruits of their labor, while the 68th Commencement Exercises celebrated the success of the graduating class of 2024 after four years of diligent study.

During the Pasidungog, Hon. Ian Kenneth A. Alfeche, Mayor of the Municipality of Alimodian echoed inspiration to the outstanding students through humility and good service to the people. Reminding everyone to keep their feet on the ground on their journey to success and keep their eyes on the sky while trusting the Almighty, like what he has experienced in his life.

Hon. Alvin L. Losaria, Vice Mayor of the Municipality of Lambunao and a WVSU Alumni as well, led the 68th Commencement Exercises with a powerful challenge to the graduates. "We need you Agriculturist, Foresters to please embrace the challenges of times when we need to plant more vegetables, and more trees for us to survive these very challenging times of the future. They say that the best way to qualify is to quantify and you have here a great number of you my dear young ones in making our desire and returning the glory to West Visayas State University-College of Agriculture and Forestry..."

Both activities epitomized the continuous cycle of growth and transformation. The nurturing environment provided by mentors and faculty helped students to develop and thrive, preparing them for future contributions to the fields of agriculture and forestry. These celebrations not only honored academic success but also acknowledged the personal growth and leadership skills gained by the students.

Story | 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗱

Like grown trees they come from a tiny seed; buried, blinded, and confused about what and how will they become.

As years went by they started to grow, leaves flush in the direction they tried to reach. Upward they started to grasp the sky and the stars that seemed so far from the beginning.

Their trunk started to harden, depicted by their mentality and emotions sharpened throughout their life journey. They were guided by the mighty hands of the planter whom they fully trust. The greatest Provider whose plans and ways are perfect and enough for their sustenance.

Then, branches grew one by one, their education started to spread like a rigid wood sideward, solid, and able to be an instrument in their future endeavors.

But in their growth still stood the pests and diseases that lurk in every single way they lean. The hardships, the trials, and the obstacles they face may be too much to handle. Still, they believed everything had a purpose and continued their journey like a soaring eagle countering the roaring winds of dismay.

Now, they are fully matured, everything has grown according to their life script, and they are all ready to step into the outside world.
The path they choose to take is the one almost forgotten by many but treasured by God- Agriculture and Forestry.

To our dear graduates, the Ang Amihan Publication extends its warmest regards and congratulations to you. May you tread the ocean of the unknown with your wit and knowledge gained in the four years of laughter and tears, joy and pain, and even the sacrifices and opportunities.

You have come out on top and become one of the proudest individuals to reach this far.

So long CAFamilias, your alma mater is right behind you.
