The Philippine Sports Commission has recently announced that Benguet Pride Islay Erika Bomogao has claimed the top spot in the International Federation of Muay Thai Associations’ rankings for -45kg female elite athletes. Bomogao, who made history as the first Filipina Muay Thai champion after her victory in Kenwick, Australia, continues to bring pride to the country.

CLASS SUSPENSION. Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas has issued an Executive Order suspending classes from pre-school to senior high school, both in private and public schools, in the province of Benguet tomorrow, September 3, 2024, due to Tropical Storm "Enteng," while the declaration of class suspension in the higher level, if deemed necessary, shall be the discretion of the concerned school authorities or head of the concerned Higher Education Institution.

This is for the safety and well-being of students, teachers, and non-teaching personnel.

Governor Diclas advises everyone to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm. The public is further advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.

Benguet remains under tropical cyclone wind signal no. 1 according to DOST-PAGASA.

BENGUET PLACED UNDER TCWS NO. 1

The province of Benguet is currently under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 as Tropical Storm “Enteng” continues to maintain its strength while gradually moving north-northwest over the waters east of Polillo Island, according to the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA).

As of 7:00 a.m. today, September 2, the center of Tropical Storm Enteng was located approximately 100 kilometers north-northwest of Daet, Camarines Norte, or 115 kilometers east-northeast of Infanta, Quezon.

The storm is packing maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h near its center, with gusts reaching up to 90 km/h, and a central pressure of 994 hPa. It is moving west-northwestward at a speed of 15 km/h.

The extent of the tropical cyclone's winds ranges from strong to gale-force, extending up to 280 kilometers from its center.

PILANDO UPDATE: The DPWH-CAR has reported that the detour route at Pilando Section along Halsema Highway (Baguio-Bontoc Road) in Gambang, Bakun, Benguet is now accessible to light vehicles as of 10:20 AM, Thursday, August 29, 2024.

Benguet Governor Melchor Diclas clarified the sentiments being circulated on social media regarding the condition of farmers and the alleged stoppage of work activities at the collapsed portion of the Halsema Highway at the Pilando Section in Gambang, Bakun, Benguet.

In an interview on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, Governor Diclas said that he did not order the stoppage of construction activities but rather put into order the activities being done at the affected road in coordination with the DPWH Benguet 2nd District Engineering Office thru District Engineer Rex Uya-oy, the group of contractors, workers, residents, and other volunteers.

The governor sought guidance from the DPWH, who is in charge of the national road, for a more smooth conduct of construction activities at the site, particularly the creation of a temporary access road to be used by road users, farmers, commuters, etc. while awaiting for the permanent bridge to be placed.

All of the stakeholders of the road project agreed to complete the riprap wall being done at the lower side of the collapsed road, while the road widening at the higher portion will commence once the initial activity is completed.

He said that this will ensure a better and more stable portion of the road and also the safety of workers and volunteers.

With continued and fast-tracked work at the site and the support and cooperation of the different officials and stakeholders, Governor Diclas believes that the temporary access road will be completed within the week and the agony of the people, particularly the farmers delivering their produce to La Trinidad, will be lessened.

NEGOTIATION IN PILANDO: The Office of Governor Melchor Diclas together with the DPWH, Bakun and Buguias LGUs, and board members Neptali Camsol and Ronald Kimakim had a negotiation with the lot owner beside the eroded Pilando section of the Halsema Highway, held last Saturday and Sunday.

Equipment from the DPWH are now set for the restoration of the said eroded road, initially funded with a more than P4 million budget originally intended for road widening. Congressman Eric Go Yap also announced that the national government, with the support of Speaker Martin Romualdez, DBM, NDRRMC, and DPWH, has committed an additional P150 million.

Earlier this year, this road was identified as a priority project during discussions between Congressman Yap and Governor Diclas, leading to the widening initiative.

1. From La Trinidad to Cervantes IS, Mt Province, and Kalinga Province, pass through Tublay-Km. 21-Labey-Ambuclao-Bokod-Kabayan Abatan, Buguias-Bontoc Road.

2. From Kalinga, Mt Province, and Cervantes take Loo, Buguias-Kabayan-Bokod-Beckel-Pacdal if going to Baguio but if going to La Trinidad, take Lamut-Shilan-Camp Dangwa road.
