Benguet State University (BSU) scholars relaunched the first-ever Benguet indigenous knowledge encyclopedia yesterday at the Everlasting Hall, BSU Research and Extension (RNE) Building.
The book, "Encyclopedia of Benguet Indigenous Knowledge Systems," was originally launched as a part of the province's celebration of Adivay.
However, this time, copies of the book were distributed to different public or private elementary, secondary, and even tertiary school libraries. These schools came from various municipalities of Benguet such as Mankayan, Bakun, Sablan, Bokod, Buguias, and many more.
Project Leader Dr. Stanley Anongos, Jr. explained what it would mean for the schools to receive such books.
"This [the encyclopedia] is in response to the real need of teachers in the DepEd, the need for reference material for their Indigenous Peoples Education (IPEd) program," he emphasized.
Meanwhile, Executive Assistant to the Provincial Governor David Cabuten relayed the governor's message to the youth.
"It [the encyclopedia] serves not only as a bridge to our past but also as a valuable guide to the younger generations to ensure that our cultural heritage continues to inspire and educate," he said.
He also expressed his gratitude to the editorial team, the people, and the institutions that worked in the realization of the said book.
Regional representatives from the Department of Education (DepEd), Commission of Higher Education (CHED), and National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) also graced the event.
As of December 2024, the encyclopedia is available for pre-ordering through the BSU - RNE Publication Office with a price of Php 3750 for the full-colored print and Php 2500 for the black-and-white versions.
