Dr. Ryan C. Guinaran is an Ibaloi Igorot from Bokod and Kabayan, Benguet. He finished his BS Biology course, cm laude, at Saint Louis University and his medical degree at the University of the Philippines - College of Medicine as an Outstanding Leader and Hugh Greenwood Community Service awardee.

A lover of the Cordilleras, he involves himself in ways he can in civil society activities. He is the author of "To my Fellow Igorot Youth: Poems, Stories and Essays."

Meet our ICPA 2022 judges and speakers!

Heather Ann F. Pulido has a degree in Secondary Education (Major in English) from Saint Louis University. She graduated in 2017 and became a regional finalist in the search for the Outstanding Students of Cordillera in the same year. She is currently finishing her MA in Language and Literature at the University of the Philippines - Baguio.

Besides teaching, she is also passionate about writing. She has written two multilingual books for children and a couple of short stories and poems that have been published in local anthologies such as the Ani Journal of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Her favorite writing themes include culture, identity, and community in Cordillera and Baguio City. Currently, she is an SEO content strategist at a US-based consultancy. Nonetheless, she still writes about life, culture, and struggles of the Cordillera in various forms. Most recently, she has co-written screenplays about the Baguio public market and the Cordilleran hero, Macliing Dulag.

Richard A. Giye was awarded Essay Writer of the Year during the BIYAG Benguet Creative Workshop 2022. He is also a Palihang LIRA 2022 fellow and is currently teaching in a public high school.

He finished Master of Arts in English as a Second Language in Benguet State University and currently taking his Master of Arts in Language and Literature at the University of the Philippines - Baguio.

Meet our ICPA 2022 judges and speakers!

Ivan Emil A. Labayne teaches at the University of the Philippines (UP) - Los Baños while pursuing a PhD in Philippine Studies at UP - Diliman. He has an MA in Language and Literature from UP - Baguio.

As part of the art collective Pedantic Pedestrians, he helped organize the small press expo BLTX Baguio, a Book Launch Without a Book, Kalsada sa Rengga, among other art happenings. His creative and critical works saw print in Kritika Kultura, Asian Cha, Daluyan, Katipunan, Jacket2, Katitikan, Entrada, among others. He blogs at chopsueyngarod.wordpress.com while trying to maintain columns in Baguio Chronicle and Northern Dispatch.

He is a Dignity Defender of the World Youth Alliance - Asia Pacific, a non-profit organization committed to promoting the dignity of every human person through policy and culture. Paul Joseph A. Nuval is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Development Communication, College of Information Sciences, Benguet State University (BSU). He holds a master's degree in Development Communication.

He is currently the Chief of the Technology Packaging and Information Dissemination of BSU's Office of Extension Services. He is the Executive Producer and Project Leader of Agshan TV, the official media production of BSU - Development Communication Multimedia Station. Further, he is involved with the Pansigedan Advocacy Cooperative as Development Communication Specialist.

Jovelyn P. Lao-e had been a campus journalist since her elementary days and had continuously been an advocate for campus press freedom even at her current profession. She had been in the academe since 2004 just right after finishing her Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. She had first handled high school visually-impaired students.

She is focused on molding students for their holistic development and so she pushes and motivates them to do their best in everything that they do as she inspires them by instilling the values that they learn for what they were created for. She is currently an Instructor at Benguet State University.

Rhe-Ann N. Wandalen is a Fellow of the Youth Ambassador Program 2022 of the World Literacy Foundation which aims at eliminating illiteracy worldwide. She is a member-advocate and writer of the Pansigedan Advocacy Cooperative. In 2015, she was awarded the Medallion of Excellence in the Field of Campus Journalism during the 8th National Convention of the School Press Advisers' Movement, Inc. (SPAM, Inc.).

At present, she is working at the Kibungan Local Government Unit - Municipal Assessor's Office as Assessment Clerk. She is also a staff designate to the Municipal Cooperative Development Office and a cooperative representative to the Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office. She is a member of the secretariat to the Local Climate Change Action Plan Core Team of the Municipality of Kibungan.

Mark Samuel D. De Guzman, ICON Magazine's creative director, has a degree in Secondary Education (English). Currently, he works as a Multimedia Production Specialist at Benguet State University (BSU). He is involved with the Pansigedan Advocacy Cooperative as a focal person for multimedia. He is also a publicity staff (graphic artist) of UP Diliman - National Service Training Program.

He served as a layout and graphic artist at the BSU Public Affairs Office. He was also a part of DepEd TV Philippines as a video editor for DepEd Philippines OKKK! Tambayan Season 1 and 2.

Giselle I. Ocyaden is a Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health (MAPEH) teacher at Angkileng National High School, Sagada, Mt. Province. During his high school and collegiate days, he has been involved in campus journalism as a cartoonist and has received recognitions for his outstanding works in editorial cartooning, comics strip drawing, and literary graphics illustration.

Currently, he is the official cartoonist and layout artist of the Mt. Province Schools Division Office (MPSDO) Gazette. He is also a member of the Local Youth Development Council, Education Committee of the Provincial Government of Mt. Province.

Bobby Mc Gee O. Lee, ICON Magazine's managing editor, is a high school journalism teacher and has been a campus paper adviser for five years. He is involved with the Pansigedan Advocacy Cooperative, a regional advocacy cooperative committed to the principle of the common good (siged), as a member-advocate and Website and Social Media Manager. He is also an extending advocate of the Global Schools Program of the United Nations - Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UN-SDSN).

This year, he is one of the participants to the 2022 Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Regional Workshop: Guardians of Good Governance. Further, he is a grant recipient of the 2021-2022 Youth Ocean Conservation Summit (YOCS). He is also a contributor of the international website eurovoxx.tv.

Chi Laigo Vallido is currently the Executive Director of the Philippine NGO Council on Population, Health and Welfare, Inc., one of the oldest sexual and reproductive health-focused NGOs in the country. She is also Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Women Writing Women Philippines (WWWPhil), a social media-based advocacy group of women journalists, artists, and advocates who tell stories of women and girls on their site www.womenwritingwomen.com. In June 2021, they launched the book COVID-19 Journals published by Gantala Press.

She has BA in Communication from the University of the Philippines Major in Film and Audio-visual Communication. She was a Fellow of the David and Lucile Packard Foundation on Social Content Media and Independent Film Studies at the University of Southern California. She also studied NGO Management and Leadership Development at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Brisbane, Australia and was recognized as among the Top 100 Alumni of QUT International Program Unit for 2021.
